  1. Two similar but different kits to be done in the markings of two brothers, one of which is extremely famous. Read through to find out who they are, Two Revell Fokker Dr.1 kits One is the very old Revell kit dating from 1966. This boxing being from 1978 The second kit is a more recent one, from 2003. Now this is where it all gets messy or confusing. I'm going to sort-of cross-kit these. The older kit has the decals of Manfred von Richthofen's 425/17 of April 21st 1918 but the decals are in a very poor state The newer kit has Manfred von Richthofen's 425/17 of March 1918 plus ones for Lothar von Richthofen's 454/17 of March 1918 I intend using the decals for Lothar on the older kit and making up the necessary Balkenkreuz for Manfred's Dr.1 from spares or painting over some Cross Pattee markings I may draw on some spare decals in my files, including from this sheet The older Dr.1 kit cost me £7.94 and the newer one £8, both off ebay from different sellers and those prices included postage For some odd reason the prices of 1/72 Fokker Dr.1 kits are going Uber on ebay. I can, and might pick up, a very old but new issue kit of a 1/48 Fokker Dr.1 in my LMS for £8 I hope to get on to these very soon. I only have one 1/72 Fokker F.1 and five 1/72 Fokker Dr.1s built and as yet I don't have 425/17 of April 1918 done. Its about time I corrected that omission
  2. Just finished Revell's 1/48 Typhoon in the 60th Anniversary markings of Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 71 "Richthofen". Built OOB with the addition of a Hasegawa Phantom pilot and Phase Hangar Resin's APU exhaust. I used AK extreme metal for the exhausts, AK Real Colour FS35237 and RAF Barley Grey for the main body and radome respectively. Decals went down really well with microset and microsol. A few small creases but nothing the sol couldn't sort out. It's the first time I've had such an extensive decal scheme so I'm quite happy with the results. Hope you enjoy... 3. Here is the second of my two Revell 1:72 Fokker Dr.Is which I built back in 2006. It represents 425/17, flown by Rittmeister Manfred Freiherr von Richtofen, Kommandeur Geschwader 1 (Jastas 4, 6, 10 & 11), Jasta 11, in France, March 1918. The kit was fully painted with brush except for the final varnish which was airbrushed. The finish of the real machine was glossy but I went for a more satin-gloss finish as the glossy finish would have been too much in 1:72. As usual, thank you for looking and all comments are welcome Miguel
  4. This is my first ever GB, so I may not finish it in time , but I'll try my best. I'm going to try to do Gen. Richthofen's Storch if I can find out code letters, or Löhr's if not. This its for a planned Schwerer Gustav dio, with this landing/ taxying next to it, on an improvised strip. As you will see in the photos, I have done a bit of the cockpit, and a bit of fuselage painted, but it is otherwise unstarted (I hope this is ok). This'll probably be mostly OOB, pics will be up soon, by the weekend at the latest. Also, anyone with info on the markings of Wolfram Richthofen's Storch, that would be very useful, as the only in-flight pic I've found is this- You can just about make out the camo demarcation lines and the fuselage band (just fore of the leading edge of the tailplanes), but I cannot see any codes. Thanks in advance, Seabo14
  5. Here is my latest completed model. Inspired by Deanflyer's impressive Tamiya/Matchbox Bf109, I blew off the dust from an old Hasegawa 109E box and got cracking. I'd always wanted to build this particular plane - I have the original boxing of this still in the stash, and I've wanted to build this for at least 15 years and never got to it. Carpe Weekium, and it is complete. The old Hasegawa decals were not only cream (as usual) but refused to stick or respond to MicroSet/Sol. So, I used a combination of Eduard stencils and national markings, and some markings from Sky decals. I kept this very simple, adding only the aforementioned decals, an Ultracast resin 109E seat and some judicious use of wire to add some details. I simply drilled out the gun barrels rather than adding Master Brass barrrels. I used a combination of WEM RLM enamels and Humbrol enamels for the paint. The WEM enamels are great, so much better than the Xtracolour enamels (for me anyway). Oblt Otto Bertram was appointed Staffelkapitan of 1./JG2 on 26 October 1939. He claimed his first aerial victory of WWII on 20 April 1940, downing a Morane 406 over St Avold. He went on to claim four victories in the Battle of France and in total claimed 22 aerial victories during the war. On 28 October 1940 as a Hauptmann in charge of III./JG 2 Otto Bertram was awarded the Knight's Cross of The Iron Cross. He was also sent back from active duty as both his brothers had been killed (both were in the Luftwaffe). He never saw combat again, fulfilling mostly administrative and training roles in the Luftwaffe. Otto Bertram finished the war as a Major and passed away on 8 February 1987 in Freiburg im Breisgau, aged 80. The boxing I used, which contains generic 109E-3/4 sprues. 'Bonzo the Dog' was a cartoon by Briton George Studdy, and pictures graced both German and British planes in the war. That awesome silhouette... I added the canopy retaining wire. Classic early war 'splinter' of RLM 71 Dunkelgrun and RLM 02 Grau. This plane the walkways on the wing in RLM 70 Shwarzgrun. The wing crosses are also quite far out compared to later markings.
