I’m jumping into this GB with what I hope should be a fairly quick pair of builds of Airfix’s 1/72 Vampire T11 kit: I’ve built one of these previously as the Swedish offering from the kit decals and it was a nice build, so I’ve high hopes for these. Both are going to be built in flight, with the plan being to have them mounted on rods (possibly acrylic) glued into the exhausts so I can pose them slightly nose up and banking, as that sounds more interesting to me than using an Airfix stand and having it in level flight. Aftermarket is being kept to a minimum with these, limited to some very nice Quickboost intakes: The only other aftermarket is the decals, for which I’m using an Xtradecal set for overseas Vampires. One is going to be finished in post-independence Rhodesian colours of dark earth & dark green over high speed silver, with the green & white roundels: The other is going to be in Chilean colours of a light sandy colour and a brown over a light blue: Looking at photos of the actual machines, there’s quite a variation in the colours used, so I’m just going to mix up something I like the look of that roughly ties in with some of the shots. Plastic cutting has started and I now have a stack of parts ready for some primer tonight: I’ve also removed all other relevant parts from the sprues (with the exceptions of the clear parts) and assembled the booms for both aircraft. Greetings fellow modellers, I'd like to share the results of the first of several 1:72 Vampire builds. I'll be sharing the others when they're completed. I posted a short Work in Progress here on how I did the lowered flaps and brakes. There's not a lot about the kit I can tell that's not already said multiple times. I think it's a nice kit - I found the build fairly relaxing and didn't get many surprises in regards to fit and such. The kit is quite accurate, though in my opinion suffers from rather deep and wide engraved panel lines. The kit was built OOB except for Pavla main wheels and Albion Alloy tubing for the pitot tube. The decals were sourced from all kinds of places - the kit decal sheet, the Xtradecal Foreign Operator sheet, an Xtradecal sheet for Lightning F.3s and some other tiny bits (like a small yellow arrow pointing at the windscreen) from whatever I could find. I built the Vampire up as a T.11 in later Rodesian service. It says 'T.55' in my work in progress, as I'd initially planned to do one of the ex-SAAF Vampires acquired from South Africa in 1972 to beef up the aging fleet, but I decided to go for an 'original' instead for reasons that frankly now escape me. The T.11s like the model depicts were delivered in 1955 and as far as I'm aware came relatively fresh from the factory. This example is finished in the last colours it flew in before written off on September 1973, namely in early Bush War camouflage and Rhodesian republic markings. The T.11s wore no national markings on the wings; boom roundels and fin flashes only. I threw some weathering at it to simulate the effects of a warm climate and hot sun beating down on the wing surfaces. Two-seat Vampires were often waxed in Rhodesia, so I tried to replicate that too - the aircraft looked very glossy at times, though for the scale effect I tried to tone that down towards a satin sheen. Hope you like. Jay

Hi, Used Kinetics 1/48 Mirage 2000-5Ei kit to create this Rhodesian Air Force Whiffer, pure for the joy of building and painting something different . The Rhodesians bought this Mirage variant from Atlas Denel of South Africa. The Atlas 2000 is a development from the Cheetah-series and uses the Mirage 2000 airframe togheter with the russian Klimov-33 as power plant. They were specificly built as a ground attacker with limited air to air capabilites. The Rhodesian Altlas 2000 carries mainly French made weaponary such as BLG-66 cluster bombs, Matra Type 155 SNEB rocket pods and a Phimat togheter with a R.550 Magic air to air missile for self-defence as a typical counter-insurgency load. The add-ons are a PJ pilot figure, Aires exhaust, A (Kinetic) Kfir C-2 nose and Kitty Hawk weapons. Painted with Gunze and Aclad II and the decals are a mix of Kinetic Mirage 2000 and Kfir ones togher with some MAV-Decals. Unfortunatly the Kinetic decals silvered a little. Thanks for looking //Fred

Well I never ! This appeared in our house completely out of the blue. Don't know how it got there, but as luck would have it, I needed it to accompany these two : Bits and Pieces : and we're off...... Decal design and drawing underway : Fuselage together and wings taped on : ..and with the home-made decals : Don't quite know what's possessed me ? mike
