1. I have a lot of models in the "in progress" limbo, and I promised myself that I would finish a few ones soon. So, here's one from my big shelf of doom, the very interesting Supermarine-almost-to-be-called-Spitfire started more than 15 years ago. Remained in the same condition of main parts cut and sanded - until some time long ago he awoke from hibernation for the lower wing to be cut in sections. Fast forward to a week ago, when I decided to finish the damned thing. Here is a better photo of the parts: The kit instructions cover promises "...multi-view scale plans, picture and article references, colouring and marking details" - but none came with mine. I've found some references in my shelves. The 14-page chapter in "Spitfire, The History" together with the Putnam "Supermarine since..." provides a good history of the type, together with some photos and detail drawings. The Modellers Datafile provides two good detail photos of the aircraft in unskinned condition. Of course I grabbed all the photos I could find online - not many different from what I already had - but I decided not to be a nit picker with this one and concentrate on a fast build, possibly sacrificing some accuracy. I'm glad I did this way, as I'm almost ready to close the fuselage and assemble the main parts for painting. A week? A record for me since I returned to modeling! I hope to post details of the work done to date still today. And please feel free to comment and criticize. Carlos
2. Rejoining with this VacForm kit, as you've already seen from @TonyW. This kit cost me £10 at IPMS Gloucester show in 2000, I'm planning to build the blue photo option. And the parts, my kit was untouched.
3. Rejoining with this, my final full VacForm kit. The initial sheet, having outlined the parts with an HB pencil. And after some removal from the backing sheet. This kit cost me £10 from Hannants in 1997. This kit had no decals, so I've acquired this decal-sheet. Going for that Coral Sea option. This build, in flight, no bumps and bulges. As simple as possible. The kit includes, but doesn't mention a blank canopy on the sheet, as well as two clear ones, so I'm thinking greyed-out. Comparison build, I'm building a Hasegawa Skywarrior in UnarmedGB, planning to paint both together. That's where you'll see an A-3 with undercarriage, cockpit, and all the bumps'n'bulges.
4. Hi all and finally over the line with this one, my first ever Vacform build. Originally started for the Maritime Patrol/Coastal Command GB but not making the finish in time, you can read all about my adventures in sanding on the WIPs here and here Not my greatest build by a long shot so please don't look too closely. The first Super King Air entered service with the Irish Air Corps in 1977 with the second joining in 1978. Both were operated by Maritime Squadron, No. 1 Support Wing in the fishery protection and maritime surveillance role. A third joined the fleet in 1980 but was used for pilot conversion & training and Air Ambulance. All have been retired and replaced with two Casa CN 235s in the mid '90s. Thanks to everyone who gave me tips and advice on this build and to all the Vacform builders out there, I salute you brave modellers - we all sand together! 😂 RarePlane Super King Air_Irish_Air_Corps (1) by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr RarePlane Super King Air_Irish_Air_Corps (4) by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr RarePlane Super King Air_Irish_Air_Corps (16) by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr RarePlane Super King Air Irish Air Corps_2 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr RarePlane Super King Air Irish Air Corps_9 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr RarePlane Super King Air_Irish_Air_Corps (15) by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Thanks for looking and happy modelling. 5. Hi all and since I didn't make the end of the Maritime GB on the forum, am moving the build over here. A couple of pages of Vacform virgin shenanigans from the GB here. And here's the latest state of play... RarePlane VacForm_Super King Air_wip15R by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Cheers, Dermot
6. This is the 1/72 Rareplane vacform OOP kit of the Gates Learjet C21-A The model is painted using Tamiya gloss white, black and silver and finished with Johnsons Klear. Although these aircraft were maintained to a high standard and very clean I used some artistic license and added minimal panel wash to the top and bottom surface of the wings and on the engine just to break up the white of the aircraft. Draw decals were used, although I found these were to big such as the stars and bars and the USAF insignia so instead raided my spares and found something of suitable size. All of the interior is scratch built including the undercarriage and entrance steps Crystal clear was used for the windows and navigation lights This particular aircraft is based at Scott Air Force Base USA Anyway I hope you like it Work in progress link http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234938341-172-rareplanes-vacform-gates-learjet-c21-a-finished/
7. Having a small rest from building the Vickers Vanguard, I decided I needed something rather quicker to build so whipped this out of my stash which I have had for a few years which I bought on Ebay, the only problem is it did not come with a clear cockpit, so may have to resort in making a resin mould and casting a clear canopy, anyway I am going to build this kit with full interior, cabin door open, wing and tail flaps cut out etc, I am going to use TwoSix decals for this as well.
8. This is my completed vacform Rareplanes 1/72 DH Devon, I will post more photos later when I get the lighting sorted the photos will be cropped a bit better as well I hope you like ?
