  1. Prompted by the Spitfire and Hurricane topics I've noted with the same intent, I trust it's not out of order to establish one for the Blenheim, as I suspect a few of us are getting stuck into the Airfix Blenheim kits. I have 4 on the go - a pair of Mk. I and Mk. IV types respectively. When I get a moment, I might put links to some of the recent questions about the Blenheim in this post/thread - and start my build thread.
  2. Hello to everyone! I am trying to collect information about a specific aircraft belonging to the 509th Fighter Squadron, 405th Fighter Group. This P-47 Razorback was specifically the "Jabo" its serial number was 42-25990 and its code G9-U His nose art was a black coyote (? with red boxing gloves. here's the only picture I could find about this aircraft on the internet. This Fighter squadron had some interesting nose arts. A closer look at the nose art: Now here's where the questions Begin: First of all, I have some discrepancies about the actual pilot name of this aircraft In this website: http://wing.chez-alice.fr/USAAF/405th_FG/Pilots_&_Nose_Arts_509th_FS.html It says that the pilot was 1st Lt. William Hartmann Later in this other website ( http://p-47.database.pagesperso-orange.fr/Database/42-2xxxx.htm ) says that the pilot's name was Robert Hartmann And for last but not least, I have a 1/18 scale p-47 of this exact aircraft, and it says that the pilot's name is Lt. Bob Hartmann which is short for Robert The thing is that I couldn't find any information about this pilot or who he was. The only thing that matches is the Lastname, also I don't even know if those bombing marks and downed planes are correct. I also found the correct decal sheet for this aircraft in 1/48 scale here American Jabo`s P47 Thunderbolt Part V (405FG) but I can't see any details because of the quality of the image. If someone can help me find the information I need, or know something more about this specific aircraft and the FS I will be more than pleased. Thank you Also just a little picture of me next to the 1/18 aircraft, just for fun. -René
  3. I've had a look on the internet for jigs that hold planes steady during building and painting. Do any of you experienced guys use them? Are they worth getting or do they "catch more fishermen than fish"? So far I've been muddling through with blu-tak, knees, teeth and bits of bent wire.
  4. I have several tiny electric motors like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225061248900 but to spin a scale propeller it ideally needs to be of the type that is off until you give it a little push so there’s no need to mount an on/off switch anywhere. I’ve tried Googling them but nothing comes up, probably because I don’t know what they’re called and describing them didn’t help either. The last time I saw one was in a 1/32 scale Airfix kit of a Spitfire I made 50 years ago in 1972. Can anyone advise please on whether these motors still exist (or if there’s a better solution that doesn’t need an on/off switch). Thanks.
  5. Colleagues, please tell me in which (book, magazine, etc) the most accurate drawings of Walrus?
  6. Hi BM'ers... Hope life is treating you all well and robust health abounds. So - a quick question/poll: I've had some time recently to dive back into the hobby, and have completed some nice-enough 1/72 builds - satisfying enough that I'll post one in RFI soon. As a treat to my braille-scale cack-handedness, I started building a Tamiya P-51 in 1/48, specifically the Korean War edition with the drop-tanks and rockets, that had been in my stash for a few years. I decided to get some decals to do a WWII scheme at the time of purchase, ideally a mix of NMF and either invasion stripes and/or some camo - and got a lovely EagleCals set including Lou IV, the perfect scheme. The Korean War-era P-51, now the F-51D, had the additional tail fillet. Lou IV did not have the fillet, even slightly. I work as a photographer, have had a ruinous year like so many, have a bright and bouncing nearly 6-month-old infant, and as such – very obviously – literally don't have the budget or real justification to purchase new decals. Current maths runs as £12 for a set of decals in fact = 1.4 packets of baby's preferred nappies, and the spare pennies are far too tight to mention... I'm tempted to just modify the scheme to extend the camo across the fillet down to the spine of the body, as the build has been much, much fun so far and doesn't deserve the shelf of doom. Another part of me asks, is it a mark of disrespect to the aviators who flew these planes to ignore such a glaring inaccuracy? I'd be really interested to hear anyone's thoughts, if you've got a minute to reply. Happy modelling to all...
  7. I wonder if the old tool Yamato and Musashi kits in 1/350 are identical? I have a Pontos deck for old tool Yamato, so I wonder if I can use it on Musashi kit...
  8. Hi, i'm currently in the process of building a small vignette for the GB, and have run into a small problem. Did British troops in Greece wear 8th army desert equipment, or standard Khaki battledress? Also, what figure sets could I use? Thanks in advance, Seabo14
  9. Hi I purchased this kit last year and did checked it like I always do, but until now when I pulled it out of my stash in order to build it, my kit is missing two parts; # 11 transparent part (canopy) and P1 pur part (cockpit floor). Wondering if anyone else here has had or have similar issues ? I've already sent email to the address mentioned on the kit but no response so far. Any help or info would be highly appreciated. TIA Teemu Haajanen
  10. I've read conflicting reports that the Roc did and didn't see action. Anyone know the truth? thanks, -Bert
