  1. Printscale decals are notorious for being really difficult to use, the main problem being that they tend to fold, or even worse turn into a small crumpled ball. But it seems that some modellers have had relatively positive experiences with them, which makes me think that maybe there exist sheets that are less prone to fold. Many Ukrainian kits used to have really crappy decals, like kits from Amodel and ICM. I don't know who prints ICM's decals, but Decograph has printed decals for Amodel from the very beginning, being their first customer. The older Decograph decals are matt and shatter easily. Sometime in the 2010's they developed a new clear lacquer, and now they are very good. Older ICM kits use to have awful decals, but they have replaced them with new glossy ones that are really good. Even old kits like 1/72 He 51 and Ki-27 have very good decals. There's of course the caveat that the kits that I have were bought from Mojehobby, and probably come straight from ICM, so they are new stock. It's hard to tell when any particular Printscale was released, but one indication is the email address at the top right corner. The newer ones say [email protected], older [email protected], I think there's also a third one with .ru ending. All the sheets I've got have the .ru ending. Does anyone have experience of those newer ones with a gmail address? Or of those that are known to be new releases from 2022 or 2023?
  2. Finish no6 and probably the last of the year is Academy/Minicraft's B24L Liberator done as a CBI based aircraft "Taylor Maid". Couple firsts on this one, first time detailing internally (WIP is at the bottom) and use of AK metal paste for the NMF. The kit is not great with may shortfalls but is still a fair representation of the type, if I were to do another B24 I would go for the Hasegawa kit. The decals are from Print Scale with the usual issue they have, I lost the first of the tail codes when it ripped coming of the backing paper so I had to use some HAD decal serial no's as replacements. The stencil data are from Aviaology. The AK metal paste was sprayed on after mixing with white spirit, things I learnt with the paste was to add 8-10mm paste to 15ml of white spirit to get good coverage, very light coats (sprayed on horizontal surfaces or it will form drips) and leave it 2-3 days for the paste to harden before buffing, the paste needs to be sealed once buffed or any touching will rub through. The remaining paint is all Tamiya acrylics. As usual any comments welcome A quick face off with a Zero WIP

  4. #1/2020 Let the new season begin! Kinetic kit, needs some filler, a molding issue appeared on the left side of the tail fin in the area of the leading edge. The tip tanks are one piece parts and molded both the same way, to say both for one side and not differently molded for different sides. Some work to make the "wrong" one fit, you may see it on the frontal pic, the tip tanks have a slightly different tilt. Used a resin seat from the Wolfpack edition of the Kinetic kit. Decals for the main markings from Print Scale, not that bad but took a while to losen from the carrier paper and tended to wrap. Stencils were taken from the kit. MRP White and Dark Aluminium used for the NMF. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235062626-persian-thunder148-northrop-f-5a-freedom-fighter-imperial-iranian-airforce/ In the early 60ies Iran looked for an aicraft to replace the aging F-84 and F-86 fleet. They found it in the F-5. The first batch of F-5A and F-5B were delivered on Dec. 6th 1964, the last ones were delivered in 1971, some in NMF and some already in Asia Minor camo. The NMF ones were soon camouflaged too. iran was the first export customer of the F-5. When the IIAF received the newer F-5E/F and F-4D/E, Iran and the USA negotiated, under project Enhance and Enhance-plus, to deliver most of the old Iranian F-5s to other US allies, especially to South Vietnam. Other recipients were Ethiopia, Jordan, Greece, Morocco and Kenya. The model shows an aircraft that was stationed at TFB-3 Shahrokhi. In 1971 it crashed near Vahdati Airbase during an air to ground exercise. 5. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Academy Hawker Tempest, built from the box. I used Print Scale decals (72-273) to represent an aircraft of 3. Squadron, based at Newchurch, England, in summer 1944. I did not like Print Scale's RAF Roundel colors, so these were replaced by products from Xtradecals. More info and period photographs on squadrons based at the Newchurch Advanced Landing Ground here: http://newchurchvillage.org/history/newchurch-ww2/squadron-photo-gallery/ The model was painted with Gunze acrylics. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes. The 'Chipping effect' on the D-Day stripes was done with Vaseline creme: According to original photographs, 3rd sqaudron aircraft had a halo effect around the fuselage code letters. This was probably the result of the ground crew, hastily painting the D-Day stripes around the letters. I tried to replicate this effect with masks from Tamiya tape. These were cut slightly larger then the corresponding letters. To avoid the Black/White stripes shining through the Roundel, I masked these areas too. Exhaust stains airbrushed using Gunze H95 Smoke with a drop of H12 Black added: Thank you for your interest. Best greetings from Vienna, Roman
  6. Hi all, Here are some pics of my recently finished Airfix 1/72 CH-53 built and painted as an IRIN RH-53 using decals from Print Scale. For an old kit it went together very well and has lots of nice raised rivets, just like the real thing. More pics can be found on the build log here :- http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234997643-airfix-172-ch-53s-65-double-build-iran-and-israel/ And if you haven't visited the Helicopter GB then go and have a look, there are some fantastic builds on there and it's well worth a visit. There are more piccies on the build log. Thanks for looking, and all comments and criticisms are gratefully received. Craig.
