Here is the PAS Models resin ATR 42 in the livery of Air Wales circa 2005. It’s a sort of therapy model, a quick, easy build to try to restore my mojo after a whole run of failed and stalled projects had left me totally “scunnered” (as we say in Scotland) and with serious thoughts of quitting the hobby. The idea was suggested by my wife and I'm very grateful for her interest and encouragement during what has been a depressing and unproductive period on the modelling front. The build was straightforward, problem-free and largely OOB. Some of the panel lines were, putting it politely, rough and ready and Mr Surfacer 500 dealt with the worst. The undercarriage is chunky and not 100% accurate but it’s robust and easy to assemble so I left well alone. I added the small doors above the main undercarriage doors from plastic sheet since there is nothing in the kit to represent them. The kit is for the ATR 42-500 and the Air Wales fleet were all early -300s which meant replacing the six blade props with metal four blade ones and adding the “double chin” intakes on the engines. Painting couldn’t have been easier - overall Halfords white. Decals are by Classic Airlines with a few additions from other sources mainly the kit sheet and leftovers from a Nazca detail sheet. Classic Airlines only provide one registration - G-TAWE. After Air Wales collapsed G-TAWE went to Venezuelan carrier Conviasa in whose hands it crashed with multiple fatalities. I have a thing about not modelling airliners in which people have died so I changed the registration to G-CDFF which is still happily trundling around the skies of Canada. Has building the little ATR helped my mojo? My honest answer is I’m not sure but I hope so. Building a model from opening the box to posting in RFI in under four weeks is “blitzbuild” territory for me. My wife's interest helped to keep me motivated and finishing it has definitely felt good. I’ve decided to make a concentrated effort to complete at least three of the stalled models and I’ll see what happens after that. My next project is the Antonov 74TK-300D. Quite a special aircraft since only two of this variant were built: the two prototypes. One of which ended up in Iran and other is used as the presidential aircraft of Ukraine. The An-74TK-300D is a variant of the An-74, which is a further development of the An-72. The most important characteristic of the An-72 are the engines, which are mounted half-way in the wings in order to obtain excellent STOL qualities (thanks to the Coandă effect). The nickname of the An-72, by the way, was Чебурашка (Cherboerashka) after the well-known Soviet film figure: The An-74 is in fact an An-72, but then intended for use in arctic conditions. This later formed the basis for the An-74TK, which was intended for passengers instead of cargo. The -300 was a special variant of the An-74TK as it was originally intended for civil passenger transport, with the most striking feature being that this time the engines are suspended with pylons under wings as STOL was not necessary for the intended application. Potential customers, however, saw more in a clean sheet design, which ultimately resulted in the (not entirely successful) An-148. The An-74TK-300D has not actually transported any paying passengers, but it does have a civil registration as it is used by the government of Ukraine (similar to our Dutch PH-GOV or its predecessor PH-KBX, of which it is forever a shame that it did not go to the Aviodrome). Anyway, as said only two An-74TK-300D aircraft were ever build, but still there is a kit, that of PAS models. I already had experience with PAS, since I once made a 757 from them. And indeed I was not disappointed by the An-74TK-300D as well, although the fit of the fuselage wasn’t too great. Anyway the pictures (I’m aware that I used two different registrations on the model. Hi all, There really is no hope for me and my ever growing stash! In January I added the F-Rsin A300-600 (Monarch Airlines), a Welsh Models Bombardier CRJ-200 and now this Pas Models 1/144 Antonov An-32. I've loved the An-32 since being a kid, the engines look so out of proportion with rest of the aircraft, it looks a bit bonkers, so I thought I'd share some photos of the kit. Regards, Darren

To complete a trio of recent builds here is something a bit different. I saw my first An-72 many years ago, from a train passing the end of the runway at Edinburgh Airport. At that time I didn’t know much about Soviet aircraft and I had no idea what the strange apparition was. A phone call to a friend who worked at the airport established that it was an An-72 doing a Royal Mail charter on behalf of Channel Express. I promised myself that one day I would build a model and about 13 years later here it is. My first attempt was with the Amodel kit, a memory which still makes me shudder. Eventually I did what I should have done all along and used the superb PAS resin kit, a delightfully easy and straightforward build despite the weird shape of the real thing. Apart from the windscreen (by PAS) decals are by Two Six, an early-ish sheet and perhaps not one of Ray’s best efforts. It was presumably designed for the Amodel kit and needed quite a bit of nipping and tucking to fit the PAS version. This led in turn to a fair amount of retouching, the light blue in particular being very difficult to match. The dark blue also had a nasty tendency to flake off which caused further problems. Never mind, I’m reasonably happy with the final result and looking forward to my next PAS build which will probably be the rather more conventional Boeing 717. Hello, the postie dropped this off this morning: the 2012 PAS Models Boeing 757-200 resin kit. Hopefully I'm not treading on anyone's toes by posting some pictures of the kit. I have no first-hand experience of the Minicraft or Authentic Airliners kits, so I can't really compare directly, however, this looks like a finely detailed kit and I think it will build into a nice model. The moulding seems generally good, with only a few small bubbles. The trailing edges are paper thin, unfortunately one of the horizontal stabilisers has lost a corner because of this.
