Got this finished last month. I used the Vector wheel bays, P-47 upgrade set and M/N prop. Wheels are Ultracast ones and the 75 gallon drop tank is from Edaurd's Brassin range. K-14 gunsight from Aires. Painted with Alclad II for the NMF and Humbrol enamels for the rest. Decals are from Zotz, with the Insignias and stencils from the kit and a few Eduard stencils. I changed the seat near the end of the build to an Ultracast square type as I had incorrectly used the earlier type from the kit. (Click on the photos for a larger image).

My second entry I've had stewing ing the stash for a while. A ProModeller P-47N That I got used. It was partially started but I'm re-doing most of that because of the incorrect colours initially used. Particularly the what I think is supposed to be yellow Zinc Chromate. and the interior colours. I'll be covering the exterior in foil since that looks alot better than paint and I'm waiting on a P/E set for the interior.

Greetings Model Friends- Well I am still keeping up the progress and finished my 3rd Model in last Month! This one is a 1/48 Academy P-47N with some nice Nose Art! '2 Big and Too Heavy!' This flew out of Iwo Jima and is the 'Big' version of P47 with the larger wing and looks really 'different' compared to a standard wing P47. This one had a resin cockpit which was a bit of a challenge to get to fit in the fuselage! I also added the resin propeller so it would be the right type. NMF really scares me and I don't yet know how to weather it well, so leave it in nice shape. This bird was repainted with the tail stripes originally, so I pictured it just after that and is really clean. The original plane photos don't show much weathering, no gun soot, only some exhaust stain, so that's what I did. This time I tried the Gunsie Mr. Color super metallic paints and love them! The Main areas are painted in SM201 super fine silver, and as you can see is like a mirror. Then I did the flaps and ailerons in a SM204 stainless and the section of wing over the MLG also in the stainless which is a little more flat and darker as this was in photos. Then the Gun doors I painted in SM203 Super Iron to get them darker like in photos. I really liked the finish and it looks more interesting having different sections of fuselage and wings in different silver colors. The fuselage side panels and cowl flaps were also painted the darker stainless silver. Decals were a huge issue. The stencils came from the kit, and a zotz P47N sheet. The Main decals for insignias came from an Aeromaster P47N sheet. Then the Nose art came from the excellent Zotz decal sheet for this P47N. Unfortunately the zotz sheet had the cowl decals too large! I had to use Aeromaster which were correct size. All in all I needed 4 different sheets of decals to get the decals for the complete airplane all selected for different parts so they would look right. Some things I goofed were the tail stripes. I used the aeromaster sheet and they fit the Academy kit well, however the carrier film connected two stripes (narrower) and the third is separate. So the stripes are not quite right. Next time cut stripes apart and put them on individually. The other hard part was the underwing rocket mounts are molded into the lower wing! These needed to be removed for this airplane. Photos show them not installed. So that was really hard cutting them and sanding and filling the lower wing that had the remnants of the rocket mounts to remove. This was really hard to do. So don't look at underside of model! It was a fun build and I enjoyed it and it looks smashing on the Pacific TO shelf in the model case !

Howdy folks! Bubba's the name.....Just got my wings and itching to see my new steed. Apparently it's a super long range high altitude escort, so I'm counting on it being one of those P-51 Mustangs..... Aww shoot!

I just signed on with Flickr to try to get some pictures up here and on the other forum(s). Didn't get it to work on the other, so maybe better luck here... This is the Revell 1/48th P-47N. I chose this one over the Academy kit based on reviews, availability, and price. Not a bad kit. The metal finish is Testors spray can silver with various panels masked and brush painted with Testors small bottle gloss silver. The markings are my interpretation of photos of 36th FG P-47Ns in Panama 1946-47. I received one photo from the daughter of a former 36th FG pilot, and another was posted on Hyperscale by Mark Allen M after I posted the other one. Both showed the scalloped rudder markings and an aircraft number on the nose. During the war, the 23rd Fighter Sqd color was yellow. It seems that during the deactivation/reactivation period, and the move from Germany to Panama, that the squadron colors were changed and the 23rd became the blue squadron. They switched with the 53rd "Tigers", which makes sense. The 22nd "Stingers kept on as the red squadron. If this works, I'll try to add some more photos of my collection over the next few weeks. Hi Everyone, With 2 out of my 3 part built kits nearly finished now, I am picking kits out of my stash to work on while I am off work. The 2nd one I have picked is the Revell 1:48 P-47N Thunderbolt. The kit has the following features - Finely detailed surfaces with recessed panel joints - Detailed cockpit and instrument panel - Cockpit canopy optionally in the open or closed position - Detailed undercarriage - Detailed 18-cylinder twin radial engine - Under-wing pylons with 10 missiles - 2 bombs - External fuel tank Decals for 2 USAAF versions: - Republic P-47N-1-RE Thunderbolt of 318th Fighter Group, 19th Fighter Spuadron at le Shima, Japan, May 1945 - Republic P-47N-2 Thunderbolt of 318th Fighter Group, 73th Fighter Spuadron at le Shima, Japan, May 1945 The kit contains 106 parts over 4 sprues of grey plastic and 1 clear sprue. I haven't decided which decal scheme to build this kit as. Anyway here are the grey sprues. 1 thing I have just noticed about this kit (that I didn't before) is that it has a pilot figure with it. Anyway more photos once I get something to show you. Rick
