  2. Hello everybody, As said and already shown in the chat section, my entry for this STGB will be this Italeri 1/72 P-38J. A single look at the sprues clearly shows that it's the nice Academy kit and should someone have any doubt about the origin of the plastic, the box mentions "plastic parts made in South Korea". We have their now usual "super decals sheet" for 4 versions: 2 NMF, 1 OD over NG, an experimental "intruder" scheme with flight blue over black. Quite thin and no flaws, will look perfect after some polishing. But after a look at this glasshouse, this Eduard PE "zoom set" suddenly seems more useful. I'll try to use at least part of it. We'll see ..... as I prefer to paint details and the pit is - IMHO - more than decent: Except for the seat that looks armored like a Tiger MBT .... but wait, there is a seat on the PE fret. "Hurray!" My original choice went long ago for the Miss Ann box scheme, an "experimental" one on a 7 th FG plane. Still, I'm pondering about 2 of the 3 other options in the box or even something entirely different - surprise, surprise - if I'm able to produce decent self-made decals. Hope this pic can be useful to you @Christer A. Italeri instructions say FS35190 Flight Blue for the upper surfaces. I hope not to disappoint this time. Comments, as well as tips or even stop signs if I'm about to do something dumb are more than welcome. Pat. PS: be safe and be well AND keep being cautious. That 👹 virus finally caught up with my wife and me.
  3. Hello Everyone … I present to you my P-38J in the markings of Philip Goldstein’s “Jewboy”. There are links in the build thread to more info on Lieut. Goldstein. Ive wanted to do this plane since I first saw a photo. I was able to secure a sheet of decals made by Kagero through another member. This is the 1/48 Academy kit and Ive done my best to re-create the plane. If you would be interested I have added a link to the build thread. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Dennis
  4. So I'll be building this little beauty... It's going to be pretty much OOB, with just some aftermarket paint masks and maybe a resin pilot, if I have one that will fit. I'll probably model it in flight / undercarriage up. Instructions seem clear enough, there are 4 decal schemes - I'm not sure which I'll go for but really don't fancy doing the invasion stripes. All parts are bagged up in a giant bag containing smaller bags (the coloured plastic being 2 sprues to a bag). Looks like there's individual prop blades which I'm not looking forward to! I have no idea why there are stickers with 'made in South Korea, imported by Italeri' everywhere? Some new EU regulation?
  5. Hello gentlmen, Here's my last complete model, a P-38J 15 LO, from 1st Lt Clark Livingston, 392nd FS, 367th FG, seen at Juvincourt, France Dec. 1944. The Hasegawa kit is a bit of a challenge and has been fighting all the way. Paints used are AK extrem metal over a Gunze lacquer gloss black base, other shades from the Gunze acryl range. Hope you'll like her. As usual comments an critics most welcome. Stef (#6)
  6. Hi comrades! Anybody saw any kind of alternative markings (decals/masks) for the P-38J Droop Snoot (bomber) modification? Academy OOB options are boring... Scale 1/48 Thanks in advance
  7. There is a photo http://www.americanairmuseum.com/unit/4075 showing the P-38J-10-LO serial 42-67959 factory painted in OD over NG and sporting individual code S on the tailboom. At this very moment the aircraft belonged to the 20th FG in the UK. Then it was passed to the 82nd FG in Italy and finally lost over Munich in January 1945 (the pilot, J.A. Garmon, was KIA). Do you think that this particular a/c retained her OD/NG camo when flying in the 15th AF in 1944 or was she stripped off the paint to the NM finish? Are there any photos known of the 12th and 15th AF "bearded" P-38J/Ls in OD/NG ? I know there's one profile here http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/298/3/0 covering "Elaine III" of Capt. Jack Walker but I don't believe the profiles as long as I don't see the photos... Cheers Michael
  8. May I present... Col. Robin Olds P-38J Lightning, SCATII On my Honeymoon last year I took with me 'Fighter Pilot', which was an incredible read, easily one of the best biographies I have read and decided that I would pay tribute to Col. Olds with either a P-51 or P-38, as I had already built an F-4 Phantom earlier that year. I decided it had to be the P-38 after a memorable passage in his book where he talks about downing an ME-109 in a glide, due to dropping the external tanks but forgetting to switch to the internals! With the aircraft chosen, that meant scouring for a decent kit and decals. After doing some research I settled on the Academy kit, but unfortunately in 1/72, was nowhere to be found and I thought that the project would probably not start. However at the tailend of last year I noticed a kit made by MPM on Hannants and took a gamble after the description said it was an Academy moulding. I found decals by Kits-World for SCAT II and when the postman delivered the goodies I nervously opened the MPM box... fortunately all was well and some crisp moulded plastic fell out with 'Academy' on the sprue! For those interested, the WIP thread is here: It's been a labour of love completing one of my favourite aircraft of WW2. My last attempt at a P-38 was well over 20 years ago, where I built an Airfix Lightning. Hope you enjoy!
  9. Time sure flies, when you're having fun. So here today - 5 days before 'take-off' I present my topic for this Group Build. Hasegawa's 1/48 P-38J w/Eduard etc and Kagero decals: I'll be starting this on friday the 6'th of june and I be having 'The Longest Day' on the telly as further inspiration! I'm really looking forward to this! Cheers - and may your glue never dry out! Hans J
