  1. Today is the 80th anniversary of the daylight raid on the Philips factories in Eindhoven, better known as Operation Oyster, or more locally, the St Nicolas Bombing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Oyster Employing all but two Squadrons of 2 Group, the attacking force was made up of 48 Venturas from 21 Squadron, 464 (Australian) Squadron and 487 (New Zealand) Squadron, 36 Bostons from 88 Squadron, 107 Squadron and 226 Squadron and ten Mosquitos from 105 and 139 Squadrons. This was the first major raid using Mosquitos. The differences in speed of those types meant planning different routes to ensure all aircraft would hit the two locations in a short timeframe. No mean feat with nearly 100 planes. They were flying so low crossing the coast, birdstrikes were a severe hazard. Multiple planes suffered damage, one navigator lost his maps through the broken perspex nose. It's perhaps best known for it's dramatic footage made amongst others with a cinecamera mounted in the Mosquito of Sqn Ldr Charles Patterson. I will be building all three types used in the bombing, and very likely will sprinkle the obligatory history lessons in between. Mosquito B.IV from 139 Sqn Ventura II 464 Sqn RAAF But first up is the Boston III. Since I have two Turbinlite kits: and the plastic is otherwise identical to the MPM 72559 kit that carried markings for RH-U AL693, 88 Sqn, I 'll probably use the DK decal sheet to cobble together the serial and codes. Or otherwise, go for RH-R as photographed on the run in: (c) IWM, CH007844 Glasswork will be interesting considering the frequent horror stories regarding fit
  2. Welcome to a terrifying tale of scale modelling on a ,mixed, multifarious, multitudinous, several, multiplied, all manner of, myriad and no ways singular level. 🖤 While thinking about this or should I say these builds I reminisced about the portmanteau movies of my youth and how my next project felt very familiar to the concept of many stories in one thread. Four Tales of Terror Modelling with the only common thread being the enigmatic Dr Spadgent. 😈 This thread will be the gateway if you will, the four doors of the asylum each one filled with all manner of twisted nightmare fueled modelling mayhem. Never before have I embarked on such a journey of multifaceted madness. lets hope it won't be my last. Welcome to..... Join me dear friends through doors to the asylum. Tales of modelling terror await.
