  1. Alright, another try to see if I can finish a GB!😁 I have a couple of P-51 kits, Tamiya and Airfix, but I think I'll start with something sure to make it hard to finish, and that is the Modelcraft F-82G Twin Mustang! I'm sure enough has been written about the hardships of this kit and some test fits certainly show that to full effect. But, I have an abundance of sanding stick and pads, filler and CA to handle all that. I was thinking about building her as the XP-52 that is now flying, but I think I'll save that built for the new 1/48 kit due out some time in the near(?) future. This build will be 'Midnight Sinner.' However, I'll need some aftermarket 'stuff' in order to build her. First off is the cockpit PE from Eduard. Then the Squadron canopies. I'll have to be careful with these, as I've never really done them before. Good anyway... Next up is the decals from Print Scale. Looking at AndyC's build, I also decided to get some resin wheels for the Skyraider. I'll still have to use the kit's tail wheels but that should be no problem. And last but not least is the flame-damper exhausts. Those are coming from Shapeways. Of course, by now I've probably thrown way too much money at this kit!😂 I think part of it is the challenge of the thing, and money already spent making a hole deep enough for the rest to follow!👍 So onto the build! Not much done for today, just removing the plastic from the cockpits to make room for the PE. I also used a sanding drum on a dremel to bevel out the mating surfaces for the nose cowls. That and running an emery board over it has seemed to make the join a little better. Not perfect by any means but easier to work with. I'll glue those in place as well as the tail tips, concentrating on getting the outer surfaces even, and clean up all the joins, then move onto the cockpit PE. Til then, model on! Thom
  2. Here is my first completion for the FROG GB, a Modelcraft boxing of the original kit. I sanded off the raised detail and scribed the main panel lines, then continued the upgrade with a resin interior, a couple of RN 2inch rocket launchers and wheel set, a pair of Master pitots for the Sea Vixen and replaced the kit refuelling probe with a length of Albion Alloys tubing and a tip from a Master Buccaneer set. The underside was painted with Halfords Appliance White and the top colour was brush painted using Humbrol 123 EDSG. The decals and stencil data are a combination of the kit and a sheet from a Revell boxing of the Frog kit. I hope you like my attempt to improve this old kit. de Havilland Sea Vixen FAW.2 Royal Navy, 890 Squadron, XJ607:701-VL by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
  3. I'm in with a Modelcraft boxing of Frog's Sea Vixen. I will post photos of the box and its contents once I can load them up into Flickr. I am still having problems uploading photos to Flickr, it has taken me quite some time to get these four on, and the fifth one of the box-top keeps timing out. I will try retaking that one to see if that helps. Here is what I have so far, the last one of the four shows some improvement sets that I plan to use, the cockpit and nose sets are for the FAW1 and I accept that there could be some instrumentation differences, but I am prepared to forego those in an effort to stop this being a tail-sitter. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr And finally, after several attempts to upload, the box-top. by John L, on Flickr

  5. Hello All, Just finished another one, WIP here. This was on the shelf of doom for a few years after I realised that the wings were not going to fit in flying position. So I'm glad to get it out somehow, and I had fun on the second leg. It's not the greatest kit in the world but if you want a Shark, that's it! Thanks for looking, Adrian
  6. Hello All, For a long time I've been pottering along with a Frog-spawn Blackburn Shark in the background of my other projects, and I thought I'd bring it to the front of the bench this weekend. It's the Modelcraft re-pop: For a spawn, the moulding isn't too bad (although the struts needed a fair bit of un-warping and there are some short shots on the more delicate parts) and the decal sheet is nice, including an extra Canadian example (503). The outer rings of the roundels are a touch too narrow, but I will be using them. If I can find some matching paint I may paint a larger circle before applying them. For reasons that escape me, I have four Frog/spawn Blackburn Sharks and three Westland Wallaces in my stash. Not quite sure how that happened, but it's a good thing I like English inter-war biplanes! As you can see from the picture above, the cockpit detailing consists of a classic Frog plain floor with some comfy-looking chairs for the pilot and observer I have already cleaned up the struts and stuck together the wings, and I've replaced the flat moulded-in engine with something a bit more realistic. The wing struts needed a lot of cleaning up and test fitting, and I did it twice before I was happy enough. I'm going for wings folded on this one to hide the tragically thick trailing edges, which I will thin before assembly next time. I decided to busy-up the cockpit with some stretched sprue and card. I am working from the pictures of the "Canadian Wings" book on the Shark, which are the only pictures of the interior that I have seen. They show the cockpit of a target towing version, so some of the brackets may be for storing drogues! However, it looks busy now, so that's good enough for me. Thanks for looking, Adrian
