  1. I like to have models in various states of the build process so I can choose what to work on. Here is another Spitfire start. Although the fit is acceptable, Hasegawa does not fit as well as the Tamiya. Also, I had to repair a tiny chunk missing out of the trailing edge from the center part of the canopy. I have zero intentions of building it with the box cover markings.
  2. I've been reading up on the Round -the-World Spitfire project and I have to say I'm mighty impressed! And the images I'm seeing show a very good looking Mk IX with some great looking graphics. Some of you will know that buffed up bare metal planes are just the thing for me! So here's my Statement of Intent.... I'm going to do one! I've been down to KB Models in Havant today, quite spookily close by to the Boultbee Base at Goodwood. And I've got one of these.... The box includes the Pointy Tailplane parts and various other options for whee
  3. Right chaps. Total confusion! Because it's a current civilian plane topic! The Mk IX Spitfire currently doing a round trip of the globe is the subject of my endeavour. First up.... No guns and cannons, but I'm not sure about the blisters on the wings. Also wheel well mod that shows on the wing surface. Extra tanks added for range, and apparently it's a tank from a PR Spitfire that is installed behind the cockpit. With a filling tube exiting at the port side fixed window. Is that standard on PR marks?? What does the tank look like?
  4. Hello All. This is is my first “go” at posting photos and one of my models here, so hope it works Bear with me if not! A bit of a back story first. I returned to building model aircraft last summer after a long break since school days. Most of the time in between has been occupied with Model Railways but that is another story. This Airfix Mk IX was the second kit I bought. It came from the model shop in Barmouth last July while on holiday in Fairbourne. Since starting up again, a small but growing group of Spitfires and Hurricanes have appeared mostly Airfix but also
  5. Just off the bench a couple of days ago is this Matchbox Spitfire Mk IX. This is an original edition from the 1970s and not the revamped version. I replace the canopy and wheels and added, more like forced, an Eduard photo-etch cockpit. The easiest part was using the wonderful AML masks. It was finished with Tamiya paints. There is a minor error with the Czech insignia, and I'm looking for a replacement set. The white should be up. Comments welcome

    ICM Spitfire Mk IX

I have just stated this kit. Having done the engine and the Frame. I am a little stumped. Instructions say to remove the side panes for an open engine display. I would presume that this will take some patience with a sharp scalpel. Further than that I am at a loss at the best way forward from an assembly point of view. I see this as then having a very week front end to contend with while still getting everything else glued and painted. Does anyone have any suggestions and advice with this kit?
  7. Hi all, I completed this Spitfire a week or two ago but have only just completed this diorama. This diorama is almost a what-if, I have no idea what actually happened JEJ-Jr when Johnnie Johnson left the Canadian wing, however my best guess is that they kept hold of it and used it for beer runs. Officially designated Mod. XXX, HM R&C stepped in and prevented any further exports of beer as taxes were not paid on the exports. Despite this, squadrons still did weekly runs to collect beer with little (if any) opposition from Commanding Officers. Ben.
  8. Hi all, Over the summer I did a lot of reading as I was recovering from an operation, one of the books I read was Tom Neil's - The Silver Spitfire. It tells the story of Neil working with the US and how he came to own the Silver Spitfire as well as how it became silver. Without giving any more away, this diorama is of an incident that occurred upon arrival in France. A bit about the diorama before pics. I was originally going to do a usual diorama with the pilot stood outside looking at the mess he made. However, I liked the look of the slate that is the base so much I thought it'd look just
  9. Hi there, Finally completed my Spitfire collection, 'nuf said. Pr.XIX Lf.IXe Mk.IXc Mk.Vb Mk.Ia Lf.XVIe Lf.XIVe Lf.XIVe Lf.XIVe Lf.XVIe As is probably quite clear, my favourite mark is the XIVe. The front row are all bubble tops. Ben.
  10. Hello, Finally got around to finishing the little details on Airfix's Spitfire IX. I used Swords airscrew and exhausts as they are miles better than Airfix's offering. Painted in MK329 this aircraft was made up out of Spitfire wrecks before being flown as a hack aircraft. I havent a clue what the fate of this aircraft was, however, I suspect it stayed with the Canadian 2TAF wing it flew with as they advanced through the low countries before being dumped. Invasion stripes and sqn codes were hand painted, the fuel tank was scratch built as well as the seat belts. Chipping effect was done with
