Yes it's another Mk.1 Escort build, can there ever be enough? This one is the winning car driven by Mikkola/Palm on the 25th Anniversary London-Mexico Rally in 1995 and is to partner my first Belkits Escort of the winning car in the 1970 event driven by the very same pairing. The plan is to display them on the same base as 'bookends' to the story. Graham Robson's Book 'Works Escorts in Detail' gives a brief overview of the tale of how the car was acquired and built by David Sutton Motorsport and its trials on the event - a worthwhile investment.
This build will hopefully be a little more straightforward as I'm not detailing the suspension for one and the lessons and tweaks learnt on the first build will stand me in good stead to speed up the build. Fortunately a contact of mine was a scrutineer on the event and took some brilliant photos from which I can work, although the interior detail is a grey area that may have to be fudged unless any other rally car fans can throw some light on this.
The car differs from Belkits kit in some detail areas, such as the fuel filler recesses, rear lights, bumpers, wheels and a few other holes and mods here and there.
For starters here's a photo of the kit box, not that the scheme makes any difference, along with the detail set and decals... don't expect a speedy build as other things are on the bench too.
