  1. Morning all, My third completion of the year, Trumpeter's MiG-31. I finished this model back in March shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and thought it prudent to hold it back given the timing and sensitivities around the war. Hopefully I've not jumped the gun even now in that respect... The kit itself is pretty nice, although it became a bit of a slog, with lots of mistakes along the way, including snapping one of the fins off during decalling.... The decals themselves were largely useless, so I ended up purchasing a Begemot sheet to use in their place, otherwise what you see is how it comes from the box. Finished using MRP for the main grey with the details picked out in Hataka Orange Line and Alclad as usual. 2. Hello to all. This is my latest finished model. The Zvezda MiG-31.I have installed the Extratech Pe in the cockpit and added a pair of Resin K-36 seats. The rest is oob.I painted the kit in gunze and tamiya acryclis. The decals came from the spares box. Regards,Dragan
  3. I was looking at these models and I need information to help me decide on which kit to get. I know there are different versions of the Mig-31, so the question focuses on the kits in general Thanks. Randolph
  4. HMA Garage (?) is to release a 1/144th Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-31 "Foxhound" kit - ref. Source: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10803882 V.P.
  5. Wow this GB came up much quicker than expected!! Oh well guess I’d better chain myself to the work bench for a few more months. As soon as I saw this model release I knew I had to have one, but being patience for a change I finally saw one on evilBay at a price I couldn’t refuse……..that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. As most people know by now these AMK models are insane!! The attention to detail and attention and packaging is amazing….and of course the “Slide Moulded” parts!!! Oh course me being me I have to add bits to her.. … the AMK metal U/c, the guy was almost giving this set away…… ….Eduard PE detail set, I got this sometime back before the next item was released, I can use some of it…….. …Quinta Studio 3D printed interior, this is seriously some of the nicest cockpit stuff I’ve ever seen, I love it ……….. …..some proper resin wheels from ResKit, gotta have some resin in every build……. ….plus have some Amigo Models resin nozzles and Master Pitot set on the way as well. I think that should be enough AM stuff! Scheme…well I would have preferred the BM/BMS models ones, but to be different I’ll go with the Kazakhstan one….a Borat special! Am really looking forward to this build….the model just looks gorgeous…..now I just have to finish the other 2 (or one) first!!
  6. Hobby Boss is to release in 2015-2016 a new tool 1/48th MiG-31 "Foxhound" kit: MiG-31 - ref.81753 and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-31B/BM - ref.81754. 8. Hello everyone. This is my recently finished MiG-31 Foxhound, 1/48 scale from Hobby Boss. Didn't encounter major problems throughout the build. Hope you like it.
  9. I started this kit two years ago and for the best part of last year it was just sitting collecting dust,I just didn't feel like doing any work on it.I finally decided to get it done this month and here it is.No it didn't turn out as good as I hoped it would (I still got a lot of learining and improving ahead of me) but it could have been worse. Took these pics real quick with my phone hence the bad quality.
  10. Hi. Santa dropped this on my doorstep. 019 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've been drooling over it all Christmas. But yesterday as I was waiting for the Junior World Championship Ice hockey tournament to start I somehow opened up one small bag and started to prime the engine parts. Orca 001 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So I guess I can say that this build officially started. I'll continue with the massive engines tonight... To be continued... /Bosse

  12. Waiting on some replacement parts for my Danish Dynamite and with an upcoming training coming up, I decided to start building this gorgeous kit. Kit of the year 2015 I believe. And so far, I am absolutely amazed by it.. it fits like a glove, is detailed and is huge.. I have read Mike's build here one Britmodeler and that was indeed the trigger to start.. And this one it will be, blue 05: Airliners.net picture removed - read the rules regarding using these Okay.. something I didn't know as well... i'll leave it here since Blue 05 is not possible anyway.. see later posts.. First thing I wanted to check and glue.. second.. it does require just a little work..i dryfitting easy as building.. darn, that's no small plane.. a piece of scrap to make the fitting a bit neater.. some sanding is needed for a perfect nose.. but I love it! take some 2 mm of this rib for a better fitting intake.. loving Alclad.. Mr.Paint-32 Russian Green for wheels and antenna covers.. and Eduard's set improves this.. don't forget to paint the inside of the hull since it will be the inside of your wheel wells, also at the nose gear bay.. main gear wheel bay (dryfit only).. beautiful pieces.. Alclad 106 in the nose gear bay.. For all the Mig-31 experts.. I think I have bought two sets of decals thinking they were for the BM/BSM. But found out most of these topics are a for the B/BS. So, I was wondering which aircraft I can model using these two sets, that is, which are BM/BSM and which are B/BS? Hungarian Armour Decals.. Authentic Decals 48-20.. dryfiiting only.. I thinned the right side of the plastic on top of the variable duct.. some very thin pieces of plastic to improve the fit.. I found the hinges missing and thought I would be able to make them myself.. made some missing circles as well.. in action.. et voila.. glued the gorgeous intakes semi together and finished gluing while they were installed in the hull.. burner cans.. with the same light and nothing done, it looks different..
  13. Russian MiG-31 Foxhound 1:72 Trumpeter The Mikoyan MiG-31, known by the NATO reporting name 'Foxhound' is an all-weather interceptor and replacement for the more famous but far less capable MiG-25 Foxbat. Although the MiG-31 bears a close resemblance to its predecessor, it is only the basic elements of the design that are shared. The MiG-31 is a much more modern aircraft and benefits from a very capable suite of avionics which provides full look down/shoot down capability against targets are small as cruise missiles. One thing it does have in common with the venerable Foxbat is its speed. The Foxhound is one of the fastest combat aircraft around and can show a clean pair of heels to most comparable jets. The weapon of choice for the Foxbat is the long-range R-33 missile, but it is also capable of using the now obsolete R-40, as well as the short-range R-73. Some variants can deploy the KH-31 and KH-58 anti-radiation missiles in the SEAD role. Trumpeter have filled gaps in the stashes of a lot of modellers with a penchent for Russian hardware of late. This kit follows their MiG-29, Su-24 and Su-27/33/34 families, although it doesn't quite have the same impact as we've had a decent and buildable kit from Zvezda for quite some time. It also follows the 1:48 scale kit from Trumpeter's sister company Hobbyboss. As we shall see, the two kits are closely related. In classic Trumpeter style, the kit arrives in a large sturdy box, with the parts packed so well that it is almost impossible to get them back in the box once unpacked. The box contains an impressive 340 parts, although this is relatively modest compared to their Su-34. The difference is largely down to the fact that Trumpeter haven't included 40-odd missiles in the box. The parts are well protected and the quality of moulding is up to the usual Trumpeter standard, with fine, consistent panel lines and plenty of detail. The overall breakdown of parts is incredibly similar to its big sister, complete with the slide moulded fuselage section, which seems to be a perfectly scaled down version. The cockpit is nicely replicated, with detailed instrument panels and sidewalls, as well as neat two-part K36 seats. The nose gear bay has to be built around the landing gear leg, which means painting the whole thing before it goes into the kit, but does at least replicate the detail of this part accurately. The nose and forward fuselage is a seperate part to the rest of the airframe, so I guess it could be assembled and put to one side while the rest of the beast is gradually assembled from its component parts. Construction moves on to a number of major sub-assemblies, most of which have to be completed at this stage in order to progress the build. The massive engine air intakes are full length, and contain eight parts each, not including the engine compressor blades. The main landing gear legs and bays also have to be assembled at this stage, although they look both well detailed and reasonably sturdy. Once complete, the nost gear bay, main gear bays and engine intakes can all be cemented into the large, slide moulded lower-rear fuselage, while the nose section can also be slotted into place. In order the bring the whole thing together, the single span upper wing can have the lower wing surfaces added and be joined to the rest of the airframe. With the collosal fuselage complete, most of the rest of the build is spent adding a few more large parts and a whole host of finishing details. Unlike the Hobbyboss kit, the vertical tails are moulded as solid parts and have plenty of rivet detail moulded in place. This is so fine, however, that I am reasonably confident that it will disappear compeltely under a coat of primer, particularly given that the whole kit has quite a rough, textured finish. The jet exhausts are each made up from three parts and are suitably imposing, although not quite the dustbin-like cans of the MiG-25. The canopy is moulded so it can be finished in the open position. I'm not sure quite how well it will fit if you want to close it all up. The airbrakes are also molded seperately and are designed to be finished in the extended position. Trumpeter aren't usually shy when it comes to ordnance, so you get fair deal with this kit. Included in the asking price are: 4 x R-33 air-to-air missles; 2 x R-40T infrared homing air-to-air missiles; 2 x R-40R radar homing air-to-air missiles; 2 x R-73E air-to-air missiles; and 2 x drop tanks. The MiG-31 is strictly VVS only, so don't expect variety when it comes to options to markings. The painting and marking guide shows 24 Blue and 08 Red "Boris Safanov", but bonus points are awarded to Trumpeter for including sufficient bort numbers to allow pretty much any aircraft to be built. Stencils are included for the airframe and ordnance, which is also nice to see. The decals themselves look nicely printed and should perform well. Conclusion This is very nice kit which comfortably moves straight to the top of the tree when it comes to MiG-31s available in this scale. It's big - but not too complex - well detailed and includes a fair selection of ordnance. On the other hand, it's far from cheap, especially when compared to the main competition (note - it is currently available with a 25% discount from @Creative Models Ltd - link below). My main criticism of the kit is that the panel lines and rivit detail are incredibly fine and will surely disappear under a layer of primer. Not good for an aicraft that really needs a panel line wash to match the grubby appearance of the real thing. Nevertheless, if you do choose to build one, you will be rewarded with an impressive kit. 14. MiG-31B/BM Photo Etch and Masks for Trumpeter Kit 1:72 Eduard Eduard seem to have tracked the release of Trumpeter's new line up of Russian jets in 1:72 fairly closely. Each time a new kit has been released, we haven't had to wait long for a set of photo etch and masks. There is even a growing range of high-quality resin hardware to hang off the bottom of your chosen kit. This month is the turn of the new MiG-31B/BM kit to receive the Eduard treatment. MiG-31B/BM In the usual Eduard style, this set comprises two frets of parts. The first fret contains pre-painted parts for detailing the cockpit and includes harnesses, cushions, pull handles and other details for the seats, as well as details for the instrument panels and side consoles. Also included are parts for the rudder pedals. The second fret is unpainted and contains a new head-up display unit, parts for detailing the join between the canopy and the cockpit and parts for detailing the mating edges of the canopy itself. Clearly this part of the set will be of use only if you wish to finished your model with the canopy open. MiG-31B/BM Zoom If you don't wish to finish your model with an open canopy then you may be better off plumping for the Zoom set. If you do, the only other part you will really be missing out on is the head-up display unit. MiG-31B/BM Exterior This is a fairly small set which provides some details for the rest of the airframe. There are new tail structures for the R-77 missiles, new fences for the upper wing, details for the inside of the airbrake (which will necessitate removing a small amount of plastic from the kit parts), strakes and static discharge wicks for the tail and a whole host of aerials, antennas and other small surface details for the forward part of the fuselage. The insides of the landing gear doors receive extra details, and there are replacement parts for both ends of the mighty Soloviev turbofans. MiG-31 Pre-Cut Masks This set provides pre-cut paint masks for the canopy and all of the wheels. If you've used Eduard's pre-cut masks before, you'll know that they are a real time saver. Conclusion These sets are a handy upgrade for the new Trumpeter kit. The cockpit seems to be the main beneficiary of the first set, while the exterior set is worth having for the replacement strakes and extra details for the undercarriage. Masks are really just a time saver, but still worth considering if, like me, your modelling time is restricted. Review sample courtesy of
  15. Hello gents, here is my latest build, and first on Britmodeller.
  16. My entry shall be a MiG-31 by Revell in 1/72. Only second ever group build and looking forward to seeing all comrades entries..
  17. I read there are a few of these kits available by different companies. Which companies make them? And could you help by reviewing accuracy of the kit, ease of build, and other such important information? If this has been covered please simply direct me to the proper links here and elsewhere. Thanks very much. R
  18. Hi ll, I have the AMK Mig-31 which calls for Traffic Grey by Mr Paint.............can anyone recommend a suitable substitute ? Tamiya, or Mr Hobby/Gunze ? Cheers Paul
  19. So after lurking on the forums for a while looking at everyones work I thought I should contribute with an attempt of my own. Normally I'm a fan of things with propellers on them but when I was a kid there was one jet that I loved and that was the Mig-25 Foxbat. So when I saw that AMK were going to be releasing one I made the error of looking at the Mig-31 As they say a fool and his money are easily parted..... Sooo. I'm hoping you guys will give me some hints along the way as this is a new subject area for me and I will be needing guidance, not least with photo etch which I optimistically purchased. Any feedback will be appreciated. In case I forget I'm a very slow builder
  20. Finally...... AMK Микоян МиГ-31, Саваслейка Air Base in 1/48 scale with Eduard Interior. A superb kit of a beautiful russian aircraft! I hope you gents like it, thanks for watching! Oliver
  21. In the Oscar's eve I'll start with DiCaprio's sentence from the movie Inception: COBB: What's the most resilient parasite? A bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? ARTHUR: What Mr. Cobb is trying to say- COBB: An idea. Resilient, highly contagious. Once an idea's taken hold in the brain it's almost impossible to eradicate. A person can cover it up, ignore it- but it stays there. SAITO: But surely-to forget...? COBB: Information, yes. But an idea? Fully formed, understood? That sticks... In there, somewhere. I'm not sure who implanted this into my head almost two months ago, but this is it: http://russianplanes.net/id128629 While searching for a possibility to recreate this photo in scale, I concluded it could be possible by combining 1/50 scale diecast truck & trailer with new MiG-31 kit from AMK in 1/48 scale. This is a long shot and I came to the point when I need to seek for wider audience. Especially for modelers familiar working with diecast kits and civil trucks. Being an aerospace guy, forgive me my lack of proper English words and truck terminology, since English is not my native language. I'll split this project in several phases and I will probably move it around this forum as I finish each stage: 1. Truck & Trailer Following link has several more photos of Tovarish's Volvo. http://forums.airforce.ru/foto-video/2911-mig-31-a-21/#post72998 This will be my first truck ever on the bench. I had no clue about trucks or truck kits before the start. The sum of my research says it's Volvo FH tractor unit, 2nd generation, 4x2 chassis. Some photos show it with white front bumper, while other have it black. Probably it's one the same Volvo, but while white bumper was original part, black is replacement (spare part), which was not painted in cabin color, rather preserved as "factory fresh". This could also be the reason why "black" Volvo has front registration plate moved upwards, from front bumper to lower air inlet. The trailer looks like what we call "jumbo" trailer (local name in my country), with 3 axles, each with two doubled wheels on the axle, with air suspension. This seems not to be heavy haulage trailer or low loader trailer. Website written on the trailer is not active anymore. In the following posts I will show my current WIP status with the tractor and trailer. 2. The MiG This is MiG-31 izd. 01 (the very first production batch), factory number 69700135904, named after Nikolay Bokiy, Hero of Soviet Union. He was WWII ace pilot. The wreckage is shown in "transport mode" : without wings, tailplane, vertical tail, nose, with engines and wheel struts removed... At first I thought this fuselage was probably on the way to 514th ARZ, placed in Rzhev, Russia, where it was overhauled and upgraded to BSM variant. But since this is very old machine, it was probably cut into pieces. For now, I'm waiting for B/BS kit, with current launch date being April, 1st (?!) on Sincere Hobby website, and accompanying Begemot decals, which were also announced to be released after the MiG kit. 3. Scenery Snow, snow and a little bit more of snow... That is ... Snow on the road, truck and the MiG... With weathered truck & trailer (mud) and heavy weathered MiG. Probably I will need to add 2-3 figures to call it diorama. I have around 100 WIP pics to be uploaded, so stay tuned for more stuff in the upcoming evenings.
  22. Model of MiG-31 in 1/72 scale. Built few years ago with Condor kit and PART`s brass for Zvezda. Vacu canopies are self-made. Decals are from Authentic Decals set for MiG-31. Terrible build, but I'm quite happy with a result.
  23. I have completed MiG-31 "Export" in 1:72 from ICM kit using Extratech etched parts, Begemot decals, NeOmega seats and Elf wheels. I started with main wheel bays
