  1. Hi guys here is my Dorawings Curtiss Wright CW-21 Interceptor, really a nice kit. I used decals from Dutch Decal to depict a machine from 2-VLG-IV, Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Division. Erik
  2. Another ML-KNIL (RNEIAAF) model I recently finished is this Tamiya P-51D. It was used at a photo reconnaissance squadron in 1946, 121 Squadron. The droptank is modified to house 2 cameras, one facing forward and one downward. Erik
  3. Always wanted to have a Martin WH-2(export B-10) of the ML-KNIL. Unfortunately no decent kit is available in my preferred scale 1/48 so I chose the Azur-Frrom 1/72 kit. The kit needs some extra work but not as much as the previous kits of Azur-Frrom I believe, the cooperation with Special Hobby is noticeable. The kit comes with NL decals but with triangles for a camouflaged one, I used Dutch Decal set DD72098 to make a "yellow wing" out of it, as was the delivery colour in 1938. Oh and, I almost don't dare say it but I liked building a 1/72 model🙊 https://www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=14213&p=albums&album=75532 Erik
  4. Hi all, I will be building the 1/72 Academy P-40 for this GB. It will be done as a dutch one from 120 Sqn, which was part of the RAAF durng the war. The markings will be sourced from a Flevo Decal sheet, and I might paint some of them, due the to rather heavily weatherd look of the real ones. I'm not 100% sure yet which one I will do, but the one leading the flight on the photo below is a good candidate. It looks like it got some new engine panels at some point, or they were repainted, as the appear darker, and the serial just in front of the cockpit is also missing. I made a start on it this weekend, with some interior green (MRP) and aluminium paint. It looks like a nice and simple kit with decent fit. I also painted the bit behind the seat in the interior green colour, but I've read that this was actually the same colour as the fuselage, so olive drab? Thanks for looking, Pete
  5. Hi all, I like floatplanes, I also like the ML-KNIL airplanes in the former Dutch East Indies. This Ryan STM-S2 is the very old Testors kit in 1/48 that needed a lot of work. Arguably the smallest 1/48 I have built. I decided not to use the pilot and co-pilot "figures" and to scratch-built the interior (seats, instrument panels, etc.) by plasti-card. I also did some necessary changes to depict the ML-KNIL version (e.g. the rudders on the floats, the pilots transparency, navigation lights). The rigging was quite a process. I used Xtracrylic paints and the decals are all from spares. Some post-shading and washing, and voila. Hope you like it Dimitrios K.
  6. Hi Guys, Here is my Dutch defender of the overseas colonies. in 1944 one Dutch squadron with P-40N's was based on Merauke(later Biak)in New Guinea under Australian command. They were used in the ground attack role but did not see much action since the Japanese were seldom seen in these far away outposts. This changed later on when to moved to Biak in the north of New Guinea. Just one squadron could not make a big change in a big war in the pacific but they did it with courage! Kit is from Hasegawa in 1/48, decals are from Dutch Decal and Flevodecals. Wheels from True Details and exhaust from Quickboost. Erik
  7. This is one of my earlier builds finished as early as 1999. The level of painting and weathering leaves something to be desired being obviously below that of my more recent models presented here and the colours might be somewhat controversial in the light of new information, which became available since then. Nevertheless, as it seems not to be really a lot of NL-KNIL B-339 builds around and I was pretty busy doing all that extra detail, I still dare to present it to your attention: Brewster Model 339C B-3110, 2-VLG-V, ML-KNIL, Singapore, January 1942, flown by Kapt. J.P. Van Helsdingen Kit: 1/72 Hasegawa F2A-2 Buffalo "U.S. Navy" Afermarket sets : Eduard #72-233 photo-etched detail set Hobby Plus navigation lights, wire Decals: Aeromaster # 72- 146 "Buffalo Collection Part II" Modifications to convert F2A-2 to a Dutch B-339C: the tail fuselage cone with arresting hook was replaced with the longer and more pointed one (without a hook ) featured on land-based a/c; a fixed tailwheel mounting with a larger wheel was installed instead of the retractable one with a small wheel; cuffs were removed from the Curtiss Electric propeller blades (although the kit does provide the uncuffed blades as well, but these are Hamilton Standard referred to be used with a B-239 and therefore don’t fit to the Dutch version, being first of all just too short); the area behind the cockpit under the canopy was simplified as the navy equipment (liferaft, RDF loop etc.) used on F2A-2 wasn’t installed on B-339 the straight pitot tube on the starboard wing was replaced by an ‘L’ shaped pitot tube. Other corrections/additions/replacements: wing panel lines were not very accurate and were so filled in with superglue and then rescribed according to the available photos; only one landing light (on the port wing undersurface) is required on this version of Buffalo, so the second one provided in the kit was just mounted in place, the seam was filled and then everything was sanded and polished to be later just painted off; wing, rudder and elevator trailing edges were thinned the wheel wells were corrected and extra detailed as they should look like on the real a/c; the fuselage interior seen through the wheel wells was almost totally empty in the kit, so a lot of details were added there; air intakes at the top and bottom of the engine cowling were represented as just holes und had therefore to be deepened by cementing plastic pieces behind that holes followed by drilling them and scribing the correct tunnels. navigation&formation lights were replaced with transparent ones. the machine gun barrels were made of hypodermic needles.
