Finally I would like to invite you all on safari in the Masai Mara, so jump aboard the Land Rover and enjoy... Isn't it amazing where those SAS guys pop up when you least expect them. As the title suggests the aim of this diorama is to re-create the plains of Kenya, so the challenge begins to turn this: into this minus the zebra. First stage is to add a small degree of contour so the base isn't totally flat, some ready mixed wall filler later and... add some wire trees... Position of the fallen tree is subject to change, it may migrate towards the right side. A layer of sandstone masonry paint mixed with a little white glue next. and then the first layer of fine sand. Some old Bestial brown Citadel paint, desert sand pigment, white glue and water mix seals the sand on and get us a nice red/brown base colour. After a dry brush of Tamiya Desert Yellow. Starting a look a bit dustier. Another dry brush later, this time with Tamiya buff (using up some of the left over paint from all those LRDG vehicles and bases 🙂) and we have: Now we can move onto the more exciting part of adding some colour and life to the scene with the first run of fine flock. Zoom in, we could be flying over the plains. Eye level views. That's as far as I've got today. Some longer grass, bushes, etc to be added, but I think it's a fair likeness for the original photo.....minus the zebra of course! Updates to follow...

Found this kit on the bottom shelf of a hobby store, covered in dust. Very straight forward build, but took me months as I picked at it while completing far more complicated kits. Remembered seeing these driving around Tidworth when Dad was stationed there. Brush painted with Tamiya acrylics, weathered with some Vallejo model washes and finished with Green Stuff World Maxx Matt varnish. First time I’ve used this and pretty impressed, nice matt finish. Of course spotted some stray dust on it AFTER taking the photos. Thanks for looking.

Hi folks, A different build from me since it's not military this time. I had originally wanted to build Revell's Series III as a more beaten up, rusty vehicle being used by some broke surfer etc, but after I finished the body, I couldn't quite convince myself to mess it up again. I also had more plans to open up the interior and show off some details, but the Revell kit doesn't have separate doors, and the glass isn't actually very clear. Overall, it's an alright kit with decent enough detail, but the fit isn't great at all - there are so many locating holes and stubs that just don't line up and the moulding for some locating pins is just awful so a lot of work was required to get the kit to line up properly and allow the body to sit on the frame correctly - basically it's a typical Revell kit and I'm hoping their SR-71 is a lot better. Anyway...photos! The body colour is MRP Signal Red with Tamiya Clear Red over it to deepen the red, and provide a gloss coat. This was then glossed again with Tamiya X-22 and polished. The roof is MRP Gun Metal with X-22, and MRP Super Silver for the roof rack. The grille is Molotow liquid chrome (also used for the mirrors) which is the best chrome I've ever used! Various details were picked out with a mix of MRP, Tamiya and Vallejo. The majority of the decals are from the kit, but the Kangaroo and Coca Cola ones are from AK (Cartograf prints though) There is some orange peel on the body, but after several attempts at getting a good even polish, I wasn't going to try and redo this again. But hey, the real ones probably weren't built all that well anyway. The kit does provide a pretty decent engine (and a terrible gearbox & transfer case), but I improved it by wiring the distributor, adding a capacitor, fusebox and additional sensor, power and battery wiring. I also replaced the plastic front end built with one from Tamiya tape, but it's not visible at all so that was pointless. Overall this is pretty good detail, but the Revell moulding let's it down somewhat. Thanks for looking!

Land Rover Series III Revell 1:24 I'm a bit of a lurker in the vehicles section, I enjoy everyone's work posted in here, but don't make many myself, being more of an aircraft modeller. I saw this kit made up on the Revell stand at Telford 2019 (Remember that - model shows, ah, nostalgia!) and liked it so much that I asked for one at Christmas 2019. Well it is finished now, built with a few mods to the suspension. I thought it sat too high, as did several other reviews/builds that I googled, so I reduced it to get a better 'sit'. The kit recommends Revell 49 (Light blue) for the body colour but I didn't think it looked right, so I made a roughly 50/50 mix with Revell 59 (Sky) to get what I thinks looks like the right colour. The wheels and roof are done in my own mix of 'clear doped linen' I use on my WW1 biplanes! I don't 'rivet count' preferring instead to enjoy my model making. It really needs a bit of muck in the engine bay, I'm psyching myself up to do it! I've only lightly weathered the model so far. It makes a nice companion to my Heller Fergie, made last year. My mate Mr Stringbag keeps telling me I need a trailer to hook up to the Landy, as if going to a show. Not sure such a kit exists though. Thanks for looking, John

This is my first vehicle build, I didn’t do a W.I.P. As I wasn’t sure how I was going to approach the kit. The kit is the new Revell Series 3 landy. I am not sure about anyone else but I have never seen a land rover with the roof top spare wheel and roof rack of the style provided in the kit. I decided to have my first go at some sc ratch building and would make a more traditional roof rack. I built the with my own choice of colours, I figured that there are very few combinations of paints that have been used on Land Rovers by now that whatever I chose would not be wrong. I then built the roof rack out of square section brass rod. I then decided that it looked a bit bare up top. So after hours of scouring eBay I located a Fujimi “car and tool” series kit with some roof top accessories. The set came with a selection of roof boxes, a mountain bike plus bike holder and some extra spot lights. The mountain bike was a bit crude, so I added brake lines and separated the forks and seat stays as they had been moulded as one lump. The jerry cans were also an eBay purchase and are 3D printed. Finally I built a rear ladder so that I could get up to the roof rack 😀 out of the kit supplied roof rack.

Just finished this little vignette depicting a couple of 1970s-80s RAF Police dog handlers taking a break on site. Landrover is a Revell series 3 with scratch built blue light and rolled canvas at the back. Figures are from DJ Parkin and dogs are Sovereign 2000. Base is a scrap of oak kitchen top and fence is from Diodump in Holland.

Land Rover Series III Long Wheel Base (07047) 1:24 Revell Its a Land Rover! I would imagine just about everyone on the Planet knows what one is. Since the original Series I was developed post war there have been many thousands built and are seen in just about every corner of the world. They are used by many military organisations as well as civilians, Series III production began in 1971 with the same body and engine options of the Series II including the Station Wagon or Long Wheel Base model. The main difference was the headlights being moved to the wings to comply with overseas regulations, for the LWB version there was also the option to make the interior more comfortable if the buyer wanted, though how much more comfortable it was is subjective ! The Kit This is a welcome new tool in 2019 from Revell. The kit arrives on 13 sprues, 2 sprues of clear plastic and the impressive single mould body. There are also 5 rubber tyres. Construction starts first with the engine. A complete engine & transmission is supplied in the kit. The engine is made up as is the gear box and the two are joined, They are then put aside and work moves to the floor pan which is a single part. Some cabin internals are added to the floor pan at this point, We then move to the chassis again another single part in the kit. The front axle and steering is attached to the chassis along with the leaf springs and their shocks. The fuel tanks is added at the rear along with the exhaust system and rear axle, The leaf springs for the rear then go on. Next up the engine and gear box go in along with all the power shafts. At the front of the engine goes the radiator and fan shroud. The floor pan can then go on the chassis. The gear stick and leavers for 2/4 wheel drive, and low/high range are then added. The instructions show these being handed depending on whether you are doing you vehicle Left hand or Right hand drive, though I am told by those in the know that these did not change from the UK position for a left hand drive vehicle. The next step is to make up and fit the seats. There are some variations here depending on which version you want to do. Next up the bumpers are added to the chassis and the lower vehicle internal body side are added. Inside the cabin the dashboard is added in to the main body moulding, and at the rear the tailgate is added. Steering and other controls are put on the dash. The windscreen is assembled and added as are the distinctive headlights and trademark Land Rover grill. All of the side windows, and rear window can then be placed in the top. The body can then be joined with the chassis/floor pan. To finish off the wheels are added, a roof mounted spare as well if the modeller wishes. There is the roof rack to add as well as the rear handles and lights. The bonnet can go on as can the front door mirrors. A couple of aerial finish things off. There is an option to leave the bonnet open with a stay being provided if needed. Markings There is a small decals sheet for a number of small markings and mainly vehicle license plates These are printing in Italy by Zanchetti so should pose no problems. Conclusion It's always good to see a Land Rover and this looks to be a great model from Revell with many possibilities. It is a shame the doors are moulded shut, but this should not detract from what is an excellent new tool kit from Revell. Very Highly recommended. Hi Folk,s and nearly a happy new year,laying down a marker for some armour related stuff I want to do in the coming month's as a change frommainly wingy thing's I thought I would start with a couple of small subject's that I had not done before so Tamiya's old but still nice Jeep (SAS seems to be well represented on BM not so much the standard Jeep) and the good old universal carrier which I'm delighted to find has the TT marking's of the 50th Northumbrian Division on the sheet,all have figures so a small dio base will be in order.I hope later to cover A Dragon Wagon with a suitable load(I've even seen a period photo with a landing craft on board} and Trumpeter's Char B. Hey Britmodellers I wanted to share a build I did for the Beyond The Box SIG at Telford. I finished the model at the beginning of November (just in time for the show, very last minute dot com!) but I have only just got round to taking some pictures outside. The idea behind the SIG is to take one of the Aardman inspired Airfix kits (i.e. Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep) and to give it a bit of a twist. The theme for last year was 'From Military to Civilian'. My idea was to take the Land Rover kit as if it had been demobbed and had a Harvey Frost crane installed at the back. I knocked up the Wallace Motors signage in Powerpoint choosing 1950s versions of the Shell and BP logos. The red, yellow and green colours in the signage in turn influenced my choice of colours for the Land Rover and the woodwork. The Harvey Frost style crane was scratch built from plastic tube / plastic card and detailed with various items from the scrap box. The stonework was created from a cork floor tile. I cut out brick size pieces and sanded them down to take off the sharp edges. The cementwork was done by grouting with Polyfilla. The door and window were built from a pack of bassword bought from Hobbycraft and glazed using the clear plastic from a CD case. I will bring the model along to the Cosford model show in April. Hi guys.I got inspiration from Srike back season1 last episode. When Collinson go find and try to kill Porter, he drive a Land Rover Defender. So, I decide to build a Defender to salute the best season. Below is the defender, it's cool isn't it? I start this work in 2013, and get it done in last year.HobbyBoss' defender(No.82446) is base, I also choose TAMIYA alled vehicels accesorry set(No.35229) for upgrade. and try to built it as far as it in Strike Back. Final result is not a 100% copy, but may be 70% I think. Thanks for your viewing.

Hi all this is my very first attempt at scenic modelling and my first ever diorama. It is the first result from my review of the new Precision Ice and Snow product that Steve at Precision Ice and Snow asked if I would do a review for him. Resin Wheels for WMIK Land Rover Snatch & Supacat Coyote/Jackal (for Airfix) 1:48 Rhino from A to Zee Airfix's new foray into 1:48 modern British Armour has been quite successful, and backed up by the recent release of the new 1:48 Merlin and Lynx helicopters, plus some figure sets and resin buildings. One comment made by a former serving member of HM Forces was that the wheel tread pattern was wrong for the theatre of operations, and this is even backed up by the box art, which shows the more aggressive, grippy tyres typically worn by these vehicles. Ali's at A to Zee's Rhino range have come to the rescue with a number of sets that will replace the kit parts with more realistic, highly detailed Rapid Prototyped (RP) replacements with the more appropriate tread pattern and realistic, but not over-done, sag due to the weight of the vehicles. Each set arrives in a ziplok bag with a sheet of instructions and label on the front telling you what the sets are for. Supacat Coyote and Jackal Wheels The Coyote is an extended Jackal with six wheels instead of 4, so although the resin in the two sets is identical, the number is reduced accordingly, saving you some Shekels in the process. Casting is good, with an unusual C-shaped moulding assist on the rear of each tyre, and a central block on the contact patch for pouring the liquid resin. Clean-up is simple, and takes a couple of seconds per wheel, leaving you free to install them on the kit using super glue (CA) after giving them a wash to remove any sanding residue and mould release agent. They should improve the look noticeably from the kit wheels, and as they are even keyed like the originals, they should fit with their contact patches downmost without any thought. Supacat Coyote (6 Wheels) Supacat Jackal (4 Wheels) WMIK and Snatch Land Rover Wheels Although based on the same chassis, these vehicles look very different, and use different hubs for their tyres. The WMIK has light-weight multi-spoked alloy wheels, while the Snatch uses more durable stamped metal hubs. These two sets contain five wheels in all, one for each corner and one spare, as well as the attachment lugs that lock them in place on the grille for the Snatch and on the side for the WMIK. They use the same C-shaped casting assist and have small rectangular pour blocks, which again are quickly removed. The spare on the Snatch is attached to the grille with the hub innermost, which means that the side with the casting blocks on will be visible, so take plenty of care with the clean-up here. WMIK Land Rover Snatch Land Rover Conclusion Much better than the original, and what time you lose with clean-up of the resin, you gain from there being no gluing of the wheel halves together. Quick, cheap, fun project: Take an Airfix (ex-JB Models) Hard Top Land Rover, build it as a civilian expedition type vehicle: Box from Ferrero Rocher, add washed builders sand set with Quickshine And an Armourfast Panzer III (Freebie from a friend) Photography was hampered by arctic wind chill (zero degrees here in Brighton but no snow) and our cat Poppy who usually takes no interest whatsoever in the garden or modelling ... A christmas gift of one of my favourite vehicles and something completely different modelling wise for me. Here's the contents (plus a bit of paint I've splashed on) The kits a bit of a contrast; the body has a some lovely crisp recessed panel lines and the cabin is OK for the size. The observant of you will have noted that there are only 4 wheel and there's no tread at all on the tyres, not sure if there's anything that can be done to improve that. Anyway a bit of fun, I'll probably do a little dio but not decided what yet.
