    Starbuck... what do you hear?

...Nothing but the rain! May I present one Viper Mk.II from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica universe, but then you all knew that anyway! This is the Revell boxed Mobius kit which I decided I would light with LEDs. This model has been a first for a number of reasons; first 1/32 scale model, first to be lit and first to have a 'proper' base. I purchased the Green Strawberry detailing kit for the cockpit and extra detail, and painted with the usual mix of Humbrol primer and Tamiya acrylics, weathering with sanding sticks, oil paints and washes. The model was an absolute pig to put together with a really clunky design and several millimeter gaps in some places but it went together in the end and most of the shoddiness is hidden. The idea for the base came from Plasmo modelling, I can't take credit for that. I'm pleased with her overall, but if I were to do it again, I'd try and light the nav lights and look for some accurate tail numbers, as the one's provided with the kit does not appear to match any 'birds' Starbuck flew. Hope you enjoy! JB

    LED lighting for airliners anyone?

Hi, I gathered some components for eventually lighting up some of the models I'm going to build but never actually got around to do much with it except a few trials. To help with that, I wanted to ask you guys if someone would care to join in brainstorming some ideas? I was thinking, civil airliner lighting is pretty much standardized across airlines and models so, maybe we could start with these? Let's see: what are the standard lights? what colours would the lights have which ones are static (on/off) and which ones dynamic? which lights would be on in different stages? at the gate taxiing during take off in-flight during landing If it helps, we can start with a particular type like an A320 or 737... Eagerly waiting for your feedback! Cristian

    Electronics help

Hi guys. Im after a little help. I have no idea when it comes to electronics, however I am building a diorama that I expect to take a few years to accomplish. However as I'm building each individual vehicle I'm adding LEDs either in the form of 3mm LEDs or SMD leds all pre wired with resistors to take 12V however what id really like in the future is simply. the ability to press a button (either actual or from smart phone) and have the display light up and make battle sounds. Id imagine there would need to be 2 circuits for lighting one for static constant light, the other for flashing lights tgem a 3rd for sounds. Has anyone any experience of building like this? And perhaps able to draw up a simple wiring diagrams? Appreciate it might not be accurate but just something so I know what direction I need to take in future many thanks
  4. Hello, Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away . . . everybody knows this opera of the biggest space opera all the time: STAR WARS. I always thought about the wonderful spaceship of Han Solo which is the most beautiful space ship ever in my eyes... now I want to build the Falcon finally... in 1/72 scale from Revell's Master Series. The kit is equal to the Fine Molds kit with more then 900 parts. Additionally I will use the etched parts from Paragrafix, some 3D-printed parts for the guns, the cockpit and the antenna. The engine will receive some clear resin parts, the exhausts some resin updates as well. And ... the most important thing for the Falcon.... I will illuminate it. It is the first time I will do this ... So let's start... I began with the planning of the lights. Finally I have decided to go like this: Red = red LEDs (8), yellow = warm white LEDs (14), blue = cold white LEDs (5), light blue = LED strap for the engine (1), plus one blue LED and some fibre optics for the cockpit. Here we go with the LEDs marked on the hull (downside): Next I will add some details on the outside and inside of the bottom side of the ship, then I will drill the holes and make the wiring ... I hope you like the new project ... Cheers Micha
  5. Hi there, The first aircraft based lighting kit is now in development. Designed to be used with the Revell 1/32 Hawk T1 kit to give front light, wing tip warning and 2 No strobes. First test with kit. Thoughts and comments welcome. Cheers, Warren
  6. Having recently developed the lighting kit for the 1/32 scale Revell Hawk I've been asked to develop one for the 1/48 Airfix Hawk kit. This will have the same lights as the 1/32 kit, ie nose light, wing tip lights and strobes. This thread is to show the development of the lighting kit but I will use one of the Airfix kits to work out how it needs to go together. Firstly on the 1/32 kit the nose light is a small SMD LED which sits within the nose section, on the 1/48 Hawk kit there is not enough room to install a LED so the nose light will have to be a fibre guide. Having built up the cockpit sections a 2mm hole was drilled into the bottom of the rear bulkhead. To get the guide through to the nose a notch was cut in the front bulkhead. The guide secured to the underside of the cockpit. A quick test with the fuselage taped up and the LED on. Next up getting the fibre guides to the wing tips. Cheers, Warren
