  1. I started the model in 2016, when I was still living in Strausberg. The model survived the move to Berlin without any damage and was then waiting to be completed. My current wife always encouraged me to continue building the kit. Now I've done it, I'm still missing a decent Jeep or something similar, I just haven't found a usable one yet. It should then still be on the lawn. The rollout. This kit from Hasegawa is one of the best from Hasegawa, everything fits together very well, sometimes you have to work very carefully because many of the small parts are very delicate and delicate. The decals are just as fine and sensitive, a lot of patience is necessary. I completely improved the engine. The engine was made from a metal part, wire insulation, plastic sheets. Many positions have opened. GI's were curious.
  2. Hi gents ! After my post on IJN Zero, I've received a claim from IJA saying , "Easy to go on with Navy ,buddy ! But what about serious people ? " ( these guys really don't like each others 😄 😉) So , Here is my answer to this request .( Hope that IJA Headquarters would like it , and more important to me , you too !! ) Arma Hobby offers us what is in my opinion the definitive Ki-84 kit in 1:72nd scale. Waiting for it for so long ! This is MY Favorite IJAA fighter ever, began to build the Revell one when I was .. A Kid ?? 🙁 you remember ? , this box After that I went on with Hasegawa one with the same deco. Now back to Arma Hobby one, Their first Boxing included this scheme , and they add a good ( in my opinion ) study on 104th Sentaï operations records won't copy it here, but if you're interested in go to their blog ( don't have any stock of this company 😉) The kit is real gem ! we are happy 1:72 nd guys to have such a good maker for our scale models. Please guys, don't go for a Ki-43 serie !! This will burn out my Visa !! I decided to not do "heavy weathering" as these planes did not see intense use , (were based out of main active pacific/ CBI theaters of operations) Painted with MRP " WW II Japanese range of paints " I liked to build this one , and I'm glad too, to share it with you all ! Hope you'll like it ! best regards to all and .. good modelling !! now the pics : cheers !!

  4. Good evening all. After a 'little' break between June and now, Ki-84 has been already finished. Now it's #1 kit on my personal list in 'fine detailed, easy to build & fun' category. During work I had some troubles with finding a photo of real plane so I focused only on gaining experince in painting the scratches. If I build one Ki-84 more then I'll paint all yellow straps, as there is currently a small colour difference between the decal and the leading edge 😪 (but hard to see on photos 😄)
  5. Ki-84 Hayate "Frank" | 1/72 | Hasegawa 29th Sentai, 2nd Chutai, Taiwan, 1945 Finished this on 12/27/2020. This was built to replace the same model kit/subject that I did in college. Not that it was a bad build, just that it was painted with silver spray paint and this one takes advantage of everything I'd learned about NMF paints in the last few years. I started thinking this would be a quick and straightforward build, but events conspired against me and it was one challenge after another. At one point I had to strip all the paint off the model and start over. Still, all's well that ends well and I think this ended up more than just "well"! The whole sordid story is in the WIP. Finishing: Seams filled with CA Paints: Tamiya TS-30 "Silver leaf" decanted into airbrush / Alclad White Aluminum / Mr. Color Stainless steel / Alclad dull aluminum and RAF high speed silver mixed 50:50 for control surfaces (dull coated with acrylic dull coat) Decals: kit decals The sparse cockpit was detailed with home made seat belts, the holes in the seat were painted on since I didn't have a drill bit small enough: Here it is next to the build I did in college. Note that the college build has an un-painted prop and spinner: that's because I used the ones I painted in college on the new build. The old one will get stripped and painted with the camo scheme that was the alternate in the kit. Thanks for looking! Questions, comments and constructive criticism welcome.
  6. This is my eighth completion for 2019, the Hasgawa 1/32 Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate which went under the Allied reporting name of 'Frank'. It represents an aircraft of the 101st Sentai based either at Taisho Airbase near Osaka, at the end of the war, or at Miyakonojo Airbase on Kyushu Island in June 1945; most sources state the latter. This is one of Hasegawa's older 'new tool' kits dating from 2004, and its' age is apparent when compared to the Ki-44 kit that I finished last, it is a bit more clunky and primitive-feeling, but it went together very well and was a pleasure to build. I did use a bit of aftermarket on it, namely the Profimodeller brass guns and pitot tube and the Mastercasters wheels and exhaust outlets. I also used the Eduard mask set for the canopy. Oh, and I swapped the pilot's head for one from the Ki-44 kit that I hadn't used as the moulding and detail was better. I'm not in the habit of building my models with the flaps deployed but Hasegawa did not give me the choice this time. For the paint scheme I first gave the model an overall coat of Alclad, to which masking tape, salt and masking fluid was added with the aim of reproducing (as closely as possible, anyway) this scheme. Not only is there evidence of extensive flaking of the camouflage, but some panels around the cockpit look to have bare-metal replacements. In fact I have no idea if the aircraft actually flew in this condition, as the picture was pretty certainly taken in an aircraft 'graveyard' and could have been abandoned half-repaired. In my favour is the fact that almost certainly nobody else knows either. The uppersurfaces were painted in Colourcoats ACJ22 - IJAAF #7 Ohryoku nana go shoku with the anti-glare panel painted in Vallejo Black Grey. The undersides were painted in a mixture of the uppersurface colour and white paint, which was probably how they actually painted the underside of aircraft finished in this colour. I used the kit transfers, despite my reservations that the Hinomaru and their white outlines were supplied as separate transfers; Hasegawa transfers do have a reputation for being a bit thick but they turned out okay anyway and the stencils etc. all went down well with no silvering. For the final touches the navigation lights (which are moulded opaquely on the wings and tail, but are also supplied as clear parts if you trim off the originals) were painted in Tamiya Clear Red and Blue, and the R/T antenna wire was made from Infini White Lycra thread, the 120 Denier version, attached with Bob's Buckles eyelets. I'm actually very pleased with how it turned out, it was a nice easy build and it kept me out of trouble for a few weeks Thanks for dropping by Cheers, Stew
  7. Greetings folks, Here is my latest completion OOTB. The old but still quite nice Ki-84 Frank. It built up like new mould Tamiyas and required no filler. Fit of parts was up to their high standards. I haven't built many Japanese subjects at all really but this aircraft type has always appealed to me. It is reputedly the best single engine fighter in the IJA arsenal. Pics taken in my new light box, which is struggling to accommodate larger 1/48 scale types. Anyway, here are the pictures.. The model depicts Staff Sergeant Joten Naito's aircraft from the Kurai Unit of the 502nd Temporary Interception Corps March - May 1945 Nakatsu Airfield. Thanks for looking, Cheers Greg
  8. Up next the third of last year's builds since returning to fold. This time I thought I would challenge myself with a natural metal finish using Alcald lacquers, and use the salt chipping technique on the anti-glare panel. Now I will be honest this one looks better from a distance; the finish is bit pebbly and I had problems with the Alclad wearing off under handling. Also I have no idea why I did the anti-glare panel in green not black, but the chipping looked so good I wasn't of a mind to undo it all. Panels were highlighted with a sharp pencil, then Tamiya weathering powders used to shade some dirt around them. Exhaust stains were a mixture of Smoke and powders
  9. This is one of my latest models. This is a kit I avoided during a long time because it looked too similar to the Tojo, George, etc. But finally, and as I am running out of different models to build, I ended up buying it. I got the old "super-rivetted" Revell version, which makes it look something american, with so many rivets. I decided for this bronze-brown camouflage, as it escapes from the usual japo green that bores me so much. The kanjis on the fuselage have been hand-painted. What I like from this model is the sensation of sturdyness it has, and the door to show the motor is very welcome too.
