  1. Hello again It's been long time since my last post and my last model - it's been 4 years! Time flies indeed. Anyway, finally got some time during this whole pandemicmonium to do some modelling again. Here is my latest I've just finished: Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien. Model: Tamiya 1/72 Foliage: Banana trees made of aluminium foil, wire and masking tape; static grass combined with lichen, turf and jute fibers Barrels & crates: resin copies of some I've found on eBay using method from this post Crew: Japanese Army Pilots & Crew from RedBox Here are some photos: And some untouched ones: Thanks for viewing!
  2. Hello everyone... Hoping its a good Friday morning and everyone is Safe and Healthy ? Id like to present to you one of the five completed builds this week. This one was for the Journey’s end group build, and is the first WW2 Japanese aircraft I have built since the mid 1980’s. It is the Tamiya 1/72 Kawasaki Ki.61 Hien in the markings of 2nd Lieutenant Shinzo Takashima of the 244th Fighter group (Sentai). Its a beautiful kit that requires almost no filler, what little I used is more likely related to my construction than the kits design. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. I will add the link to the build if anyone would like to view it. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235072249-tony-the-mistaken-italian/ Dennis
  3. So here is my Tamiya 1/72 Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien (Tony) painted using AK Extreme Metals. No issues with the kit, but my experience with AK Xtreme Metals was a bit frustrating (discussed in AK Interactive Xtreme Metal experience). Basically the problem was one of masking without damaging the underlying paint. I got round it this time by using AK's Intermediate Gauzy Agent which works well enough as a protective coating, but leaves a very glossy finish which makes the very convincing metal finish of the Xtreme Metal paints a bit less convincing. In particular it effectively eliminates the variations in sheen of various panels I was striving to achieve. I also attempted variation by using white, dark, polished and matt aluminum. Actually I thought the difference between each was a bit too much, so I mixed the paints to get a more subtle effect - from the pictures, perhaps a little too subtle, but metallics are a pig to photograph ... the variations are more noticable in real life. I also opted to paint as many of the markings as I though I could as I suspected the decal film would be obvious against a metallic finish - you can see that in the last pic where the film can be detected around the numerals and kill markings (the red walkway warnings were painted). Anyway, those issues aside, I'm not too unhappy - better than previous NMF efforts with Humbrol MetalCote. Many lessons learned to carry forward to my next attempt. Cheers Colin
  4. Hi, Next archive Japan airplane. Namely - two of them. Both made from the same kits. Yes!. The kit was Hasegawa Ki-61Hien (Allies code "Tony"). I made her OOB as Kai 1c version and from another one I made scratch conversion to Ki-100 II Goshikisen (the radial version with step-back canopy and different front part of canopy as well). I made them about 20 years ago, in those times the only one Ki-100 kit in 1/72 came from old Aoshima. There was no Hasegawa kit for it yet. Markings: Ki 61 Kai 1c is from 244 Sentai (Headquaters), Tokyo, Nov. 1944, Ki-100 is from unknown to me unit, from winter 44-45. Comments welcome, regards Jerzy-Wojtek Ki-61 Ki-100 II (scratch conversion from Ki 61) Thank you for watching
