Hi all, I've finally got around to starting my 1/72 Lancaster B.VII, to be finished as NX611. I've used the Eduard B.III (S) interior set for this kit, which, although not entirely authentic for a B.VII, has all of the important bits. The biggest visual discrepancy using the Eduard set is that of the starboard handrail, which is simply a less complex design than that in '611. The aircraft will be built in the condition as shown in my illustration. The fuselage has not been 'buttoned up' yet, in case anyone notices any glaring irregularities before I close her up. The B.III (S) mid-upper blanking plate is being fitted and the new mid-upper turret opening will be cut once the fuselage is closed. The aircraft will be brush painted, as with my B.III (S) ED825/G. The landing gear will be down, but I am yet to decide if the bomb bay doors will be open or closed. The interior has been an interesting first proper foray into building etched details.

I’ve just spent a couple of hours looking at a series of YouTube videos of ongoing work on NX611 at The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby. It’s absolutely fascinating! Among other things I’ve watched dedicated professionals working on reskinning the port fin, servicing a fuel guage, replacing the port side formation lights to working condition (Red / Amber / Green, now LEDs), and soon to be followed by the starboard side, repolishing a navigation light cover to clarity, servicing the pilot’s instrument panel, removing no. 2 fuel tank, and more. Having experienced the privilege of a ‘taxi ride’ in Just Jane / NX611 about 14 years ago I can appreciate the work being put into maintaining her, AND preparing her ready for flight status. A surprise was to see a frontal view of a Halifax cockpit in the background. It seems the good folk in East Kirkby are constructing a Halifax cockpit, too. I’ve had a walk-through of YAM’s reconstruction of ‘Friday the 13th’ at Elvington but for me, at least, East Kirkby is closer. All this, as well as seeing the prospect of seeing again the Mosquito NF.iII which relocated from Elvington to East Kirkby last year, makes this a ‘MUST SEE’ for 2019. Do have a look at the YouTube videos. All those I’ve just watched are dated March and April 2019. Enjoy! Jonny

Just thought I would share some photos from the East Kirkby Air Show. I do enjoy these smaller shows. Weather prevents a number of aircraft from attending but is was still an enjoyable day. Hope you enjoy the photos. The BBMF opened the show. T28 Fennec Hurricane MkI R4118 Blenhiem I've seen the Blenheim display before, but thought this was one of the better ones. It inspired me to Buy Airfix's MkI from the Blenheim Society stall. Cessna Bird Dog OV-10 Bronco Just Jane Mosquito HJ711 has just arrived at East Kirby and is currently awaiting re-assembly. I believe the aim is to restore her to engine running & taxiable condition.
