I obtained this kit of interesting plane with the intention to have some simple kit, which I would build straightforward with a minimum of sources during a modeling sesions with mates, or a bit thematically, once I will get ill with the Covid 19 which came originally from China. The latter has happened earlier, so once I was feeling better I decided to build this kit of a Chinese plane from a Chinese manufacturer. Unfortunately I have to say that shortly after strarting the build, I nicknamed it as "Trumpeteer Revenge". Although the kit consists of "5 parts" and some other odds, nothing fits at all. I sanded off a lot of plastic to fit the few pieces together. I also decided to polish up the pin on clear part which was very visible under the windshield. At the end I had to shorten the landing gear by more than 0,5 centimeter because the plane pose was like a stork and not J-31, for which I found some photos from China air show 2014. The J-31 Gryfalcon is a 5th generation aircraft which, as you can see from its shape, competes with its F-22 Raptor or F-35 counterparts. However, as far as I know, unlike the Raptor, there are only 2 or 3 prototypes of the J-31. It's really a shame that the building of this kit is not easy, but I'm glad I finished it and added to the display cabinet. -
I forgot to actually post a "WIP" thread of this. I got this as soon as it came into my local model shop, like literally the day the got it. They had to dig around in their delivery for that day to find it for me - so I was very eager to get one haha! Recently I just developed a fascination with Chinese aircraft. The last one I did was the Chengdu J-10 (see here). That was my first foray into Chinese domestic aircraft, and now I have 3 more on my work bench! I really enjoyed this one though.
