Howdy chaps. I started my latest collection with this, the italeri offering of the A-6. I had read a few reviews of the kit and all were favourable. Whilst the fit wasn't perfect, it wasn't the worst. At first the 3-piece fuselage looked a bit of a challenge, getting everything to line up, but it actually was less painful than I thought it would be! I do wish Italeri (and they're not the only ones!) would not assume that every modeller wants to build their stuff with the wheels down ! Closing up the bays took a bit of whittling and unless the provision is made, rarely do the doors fit perfectly. But anyway, got there in the end. The kit seats are pretty good, to which I added a couple of Revell pilots, in different poses though it's hard to see. The canopy is very clear, and somehow I got some dust on the inside of it, only revealed after demasking! The paints were mostly humbrol with a flat coat care of Alclad and a dirty wash after. The bombs aren't the greatest ever but I stuck with them rather than raiding the Hasegawa sets. The instructions call them as being white, but I went with green with yellow decal stripes. The recessed panel lines are very fine; if Airfix can get to that level I'd be very happy indeed! If I made another one I'd fold the wings, but only with an AM set as what's provided really doesn't do it justice. The pics aren't great, just taken with the phone in dull light. I actually realised after I'd taken these that I'd left the central tank off! Oh well.... Also, the Intakes are a rather curious design, good fan detail but on the other hand, they are not totally boxed in with a strip of plastic intruding into each intake, in front of each fan, like someone designed them in a hurry and said yeah, that'll do. But other than that, it's a nice little kit! Thanks for looking.
