  1. looks like a beautiful kit, the level of detail is insane compared to the Eastern Express IL-96 kit I have just done. I think you can get more detailed resin engines for this kit but at the moment I don't know if it is worth it - the engines look satisfactory to me fuselage is a similar size to the IL96-400/ IL96T + IL96M. note the curved fuselage at the rear for the civil IL86 (above) a snippet of the colour scheme i intend to do. decals are not available but they are available for the 767 the fuselage is obviously larger on the IL-86 but I still think the 767 decals will be suitable for the logo on the tail and the red stripes separating the blue and green (painted areas) from the white fuselage.
  2. Hello comrades 😃 So, let's get it started! After one not easy work with Amodel short-run kit I want to take something high-quality and easy to assemble and just to build model without big problems, half a kilo of putty and pare meters of sanding paper. After I've have built enough modern Boeing and Airbus aircrafts, I think it's time for something from USSR civil aviation. From the other side, I prefer to make models of machines, that still in service. So, when I've chosen the prototype, I've noticed that in Sheremetyevo you can meet one unique machine. It's IL-62 MGr still flying in small Belarus cargo air-company Rada airlines. The main interesting fact - there is monument near airport with IL-62M mounted there. And it looks amazing for me when I can see one old girl on the monument, and turning my head I can see the same one machine moving on taxiway. The monument of IL-62M near Sheremetyevo in hot evening of July 2022 (some smoke from forest fires in neighbour Ryazan region) And her "sistership" still in service onto parking slot of Sheremetyevo. August 2022. A little info about prototype. EW450TR was produced as usual passenger version of IL-62M in 1985 (wow, it's older than me!). First was delivered to Interflug company in GDR (eastern Germany). This machine was the first one performed flight between Western and Eastern Germany. B/n DDR-SET After Germany became united the machine was returned to USSR Uzbek civil aviation administration. СССР-86576 A year later USSR was disintegrated, machine was re-registrated in Uzbek republic as 86576 (later UK-86576) In 2007 the plane was returned to Russia (B/N RA-86576) and was converted to cargo version. Todays modification IL-62MGr or IL-62МГр means IL-62M "Gruzovoy" that translated as "Freighter" Since 2015 plane was delivered to small private Belarus company Rada airlines with new B/N EW450TR. I can't say certain, how many IL-62 still in service. Maybe some another machines are in a state of airworthiness in reserve of ministry of defence, and maybe some another also still exist in North Korea or Cuba. But doubtless this unique plane is one of last "dinosaurs" still flying. What about kit, there are two good kits of IL-62M are available in 1/144. First is Zvezda, well known for it's ultimate edition, and another one is Ukrainian ICM, also well known for good quality. I've chosen ICM for experimental reasons. I've assembled some Zvezda kits, but never had a deal with ICM aviation kits. So, after reading some positive reviews, I've decided to purchase ICM kit. And there is one intersting thing that ICM IL-62M is available in two versions of livery - Aeroflot USSR and Interflug GDR airlines. And the joke is that GDR version is about 1000 rub (EUR 15) cheaper. Sure I've bought DDR version, besides I'm not going to use out-of box livery. ICM plastic is well-looking enough, I like it. For me, it's something like Revell's plastic, also white and thin enough, with high detalisation. Assemble without glue is also neat and I hope I'll do not need much putty and assemble will be not an exhausting task. So, I've started from protecting windows that will stay transparent. I've used a few masking tape for this purpose. Then I've covered inner surfaces of fuselage and wings with Decorix dark primer from the balloon. This method prevents model of transparency when situated under bright sunshine. To be continued as usual 😎 Respects, tMikha.

  4. Il-86 Detail Set (MD14439 for Zvezda) 1:144 Metallic Details The Ilyushin Il-86 is a wide-bodied airliner thathas the NATO codename Camber, which has four engines and can carry over 300 passengers. Zvezda have kitted it in 1:144 with the initial boxing coming out in 2006 with more than a couple of reboxings, and the occasional appearance in a Revell box into the bargain. The set arrives in a resealable foil bag with backing card that has the two Photo-Etch (PE) sheets taped to the front, and the resin parts stapled in place in a small ziplok bag. It is a comprehensive upgrade to the detail of the kit, with a large number of parts spread over the two sheets and small resin parts. It begins with the four engines, which each have a new intake fan made up of three layers and individual blades that should be tweaked to replicate the angle of the real thing, with a tiny resin bullet added to the centre of each one. The nose gear is upgraded with brakelines, hub rims and small resin parts, while the bay doors are replaced with new ones from in-scale brass folded into shape. The main gear has a replacement scissor link folded to shape, brake lines, hub-cap centres and brake details, with new gear bay doors and hinge parts added for extra realism. The bays themselves have additional PE cabling added to the roof on each side, then the captive bay door on the main legs are replaced with a new PE part with attachment points also supplied. The exterior of the airframe isn’t left out either, having many blade antennae, nose light surrounds, replacement wing-fences, AoA probes, windscreen wipers, and flush-mounted vents under the nose and tail. Conclusion The detail provided is exemplary and will bring the kit up to a new level, with instructions that guide you through the whole process. Having a spare of the resin parts will also help in case one pings off into the ether. Very highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of

  10. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my latest model kit, 1/72 Tamiya's Ilyushin Il-2M. Built with the addition of Eduard photo etch. Painted with colors from the Gunze/Sangyo range. Represents a machine from 566th ShAP, Leningrad 1944. On Tamiya's decal sheet, the red/blue fuselage symbol seemed slightly oversized. As this marking variant is also supplied with Eduard's 1/72 Il-2, I used the smaller symbols. The model is missining it's aiming device on the nose; the small photo-etch part had disappeared when I arrived at my photgrapher's place ... All pictures by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes. Thanks for your interest, best wishes from Vienna Roman

  12. Dear fellow Britmodellers, after more than two months abroads, I'm happy to report back from my workbench. Here's a piece of "Classic Plastic" I had started at the end of last year - the 1/72 Ilyushin Il-4 Long Range Bomber. The original moulds of this kit were produced in the mid-1980s by East German company VEB Plasticard. The same kit has been available in re-boxings by Revell, Master Modell and ADP. It's a kit of typical 1980s standard, with raised panel lines and some rather chunky details. I did replace the main defense guns with metal items from Mini World. I was intending to fit a metal gun in the nose as well, but the opening of the clear part was much too wide, so I fell back on the kit's plastic part. I also replaced the plastic handrail on the left fuselage side with a piece of wire. I received two boxings of this model kit from an IMPS member at a swap-meet; some of the small parts had broken off the sprues and were missing. However, I was able to complete one model from the parts I found in the box. As the kit's decals were very old and thick, almost like stickers, I used an aftermarket set from AML ('Il-4 Over The Reich'). Depicted is an aircraft from the 3rd Long Range Bomber Regiment, operating in winter 1944/1945. Sadly, the decals were beyond their lifespan. The bigger items (the patriotic slogan and the red stars for the fin) broke into a puzzle of pieces when slid off the backing paper. I did my best to cobble them together, using some free-hand touch-ups with Red paint on the stars. The decals also left ugly glue-marks around them, but being fragile as they were, I did not dare to wipe over with a cloth, as I usually do. So, the build ended up a bit messy and won't win any competitions, for sure. Still, it's a nice addition to my line-up of Soviet WWII aircraft. Maybe someday a manufacturer will provide us with new moulds of the Il-4? A new Pe-2 and Tu-2 would also be most welcome! The model was painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics (H72 Brown, H303 Green, H85 Black Gray) using Haarder & Steenbeck Evolution airbrush. Thanks for your interest in this topic. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes - thank you! With kind regards from Vienna, Roman
  13. Hello everyone, I'm new to here and I'd like to start off by showing my Amodel 1/72 Il-38 May. A challenging kit but not without reward, I am a huge fan of this company as they make subjects not found anywhere else.
  14. Hi everyone! My name is Ernest and it’s my first post here. I’d like to show you my latest 1:72 model – Ilyushin IL-14 from White Eagle Museum (Skarzysko-Kamienna, Poland). This is a scratchbuild model, but fuselage was converted from Plasticart’s Mercure 1:100. More pics you can see here: http://www.pwm.org.pl/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=54241 It’s polish forum, but there is a lot of photos showing the construction progress from start to end.
  15. 1/144 Ilyushin IL-96T Aeroflot Russian Airlines RA-96101 The IL-96T is freighter version of the IL-96-400 with Pratt and Whitney Engines rather than the Aviadvigatel. The kit is by Eastern Express and is based on the IL-96M. The aeroflot colours and Pratt and Whitney engines were short lived, the airframe now operates for Polet Flight. the new and the old (below)

  20. Figured I'd go ahead and start this thread even though the kit won't be arriving until Tuesday. I've noticed all of the resin aftermarket parts for the Il-28 are for the Italeri kit, but I had ordered the Trumpeter kit already and it was cheap enough that I'm not worried about super-detailing. The markings will be from a NOS ESCI 1/72 sheet of Sudan (pre-60s), Somalia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, and Cuba "national insignias" (roundels and flag tail markings). Now on to the other issues - every Il-28 kit in existence, from what I've read, is problematic. I think I'll be able to build it successfully, but references on this aircraft are fairly poor from what I've seen. The main discussions are about the Soviet version or the Chinese Harbin H-5, and most pictures are either Soviet or Polish. The Trumpeter kit comes with decals and a painting guide for the PLAAF, and I believe the VPAF, which is a green upper and grey lower surfaces scheme. I honestly think the only difference between the Il-28 kit and the Harbin H-5 kit is the box art. This is definitely not the scheme of the Somali Air Force in the 1970s. Every other operator seems to run either NMF or a grey scheme. This Romanian example is pretty wild - Which leads to the main issue - I have no references for how to paint this aircraft at all. I can apply the markings without much difficulty (excluding the serial number), but roundels and tail markings are pretty much universal in their placement. I have found this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftofj4wsFvY - but it's of very poor quality and does not appear to show any Il-28s. I have been unable to find a single photo of a Somali example so far. If Mr. Cooper has any input on this (I know it's not a MiG or Sukhoi, though), I would be most grateful. The only other images I found besides pictures of Soviet Bloc examples were these hand drawings of the cockpit and navigator's position. Any ideas? I'm thinking they probably flew them as they were painted on delivery, which would be the Soviet scheme (right?). I'm a little hesitant to try doing NMF on my second aircraft. I feel like I need a lot more practice before I try that. Likely to end up a neutral grey underside with a darker gloss grey upper surface. I feel like I've seen Polish examples of that. Still, painting is a long, long way off.

  22. The Soviets produced over 5,000 Il-4/DB-4 twin-engine bombers from 1937-1945, and they were used until the last days of the war against Japan. Despite the use of this bomber on nearly every sector in the SSR, there exists very few photos of this aircraft post-1945. Can any one provide information on color scheme utilized by the Ilyushin Il-4's used after the war for coastal reconnaissance, transport, communications, training and in its traditional role of torpedo bomber? I have read that the Russians did not begin to retire the Il-4 until 1947, and then only gradually over the next eight years. Thank you in advance for any information on unit histories post-1945, color schemes, and operational history of the Ilyushin il-4, NATO code name "Bob".
