  1. More Air National Guard Mustangs (48036) 1:48 Iliad Design Iliad have sent us some of their latest releases, this one being their second sheet for US Air National Guard Mustangs. Post WWII nearly all the US ANG units had the P-51D later designated the F-51D. Arriving in a ziplok bag, each set has a set of profiles as the cover page, with the decal sheet visible on the flipside so you can readily see what you're buying with the flick of a wrist. The printing is up to their usual standard, having good registration, colour density and sharpness, with a thin carrier film cropped close to the printed areas. The instructions are printed next to the profiles, with relevant points marked with arrows, and on the reverse are overhead views with the same arrowed captions. The sheet provides decals for 4 States ANG Units. The schemes are; 1. Oklahoma 125th Fighter Sqn. 2. Minnesota ANG 3. Texas ANG, based at Ellington Field. 4. Washington ANG, 116th Fighter Sqn. 2. Getting back into the hobby recently........but I just went to apply decals to my 1/48 Stearman and went to slide the first two decals off and they just shattered. Doing this bird off the sheet, put the 73's in mildly warm water, like I always did in the past. Let them set for a few then went to slide them off and BAM! Was it the warm water? Iliad decals just like to do that? Gonna try another decal and see what happens. Fortunately I mistakenly bought a second set so I have that part again.
  3. Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird Dog (48035) 1:48 Iliad Decals This well-known Observation aircraft from civilian manufacturer Cessna had a lengthy service record and was well-used during Vietnam to obtain and transmit intelligence on the enemy back to the US troops for targeting of bombardment and tactical/strategic use, often whilst under fire. It was also popular with other operators and continues in private service today. This new decal set from Iliad in Canada depicts a variety of airframes in the service of different operators on an A5 sheet of decal paper. There are six decal options included on the sheet with side and top profiles printed on the instructions along with captions and arrowed areas that give additional details to help you make your model more accurate. The underwing decals are shown as ghost images on the overhead profiles which both saves space and paper, which is always a good thing. From the sheet you can decal any of the following: O-1A Bird Dog 14856 of the Kansas Army National Guard, 1968 L-19 751 of the Pakistan Army's 11th Army Aviation Squadron L-19 1002 South Korean Navy 1960s O-1A 14617 US Army Reserve L-19 0-12744 203rd Recon Airplane Company Hawkeyes, An Khe, South Vietnam 1968 L-19 H-1001 Hoantai, predecessor to Japan's Self-Defence Force The decals are printed on a pale blue paper in good registration, sharpness and colour density, with a thin gloss carrier film cut close to the printed areas. There are some large areas of carrier film between the lettering by necessity, but due to the extremely thin nature of the film it should disappear, especially if you add extra clear gloss after application. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  4. Hi Folks, this is my first completed model for about a year. This is the Revell 1/48 Stearman Pt-17 Kaydet, with Iliad Decals, Yahu Instrument panel, and some additional extras I have made such as the ignition harness. The rigging is ez-line painted with a silver coloured sharpie. First Bi-plane for me but I had to do one and it is such a lovely kit that goes together without any problems. Painted using Mr Hobby and Vallejo paints. The aircraft is interesting to me as I spent 5 months in Phoenix, Arizona undertaking commercial pilot training. This aircraft was used by No. 4 British Flying Training School based at Falcon Field under one of the 'Towers Scheme.' A plaque stands there today to commemorate the training and the personnel killed whilst carrying out their duties. Here is a link to the original photo: Here are a few photos of when I was at Falcon Field: A couple of little details are missing: spreader bar etc but all will be added at some point! Nick
