  1. Hi, I'm collecting information for a project that I have wanted to do for some time, namely the Hurricanes that the Woods-Scawen brothers were tragically lost in. Last week I finally chanced upon some possible codes for both aircraft- VY@Z for Patrick's P3150 and FT@B or FT@D for Anthony's V7420.* Whilst V7420 was a relatively fresh airframe, P3150 was from a batch completed in April 1940 by Glosters. This means it would have the undersides repainted at some point in Sky (or substitute). It would be very helpful to know when No. 85 Sqn received the aircraft, as that might help to pin down a likely colour. Certainly one Hurricane carried an underside colour that was a match for BS381C No. 1 Sky Blue (the paint was seen on relics from the aircraft) so while that's a possibility, the date of its arrival and any previous "owners" would be really useful. I've had a look online, but there's nothing like the sort of info you can find on Spitfires and my library is sadly lacking in Hurricane references. If anyone does have access to information and would be kind enough to look, I would be much obliged. * The VY@Z code was suggested by the Cammfollowers page on Facebook (it came up in a search) and there's a painting by Barry Weekley included that shows the brothers' Hurricanes in formation, with V7420 shown as FT@B. Another reference (Aviation-safety.net) lists V7420 as FT@D and while it would be nice to know for sure, the two letters are similar enough to be easily adjusted if necessary. Cheers, Mark.
  2. Hello everybody... This was built in parallel with my 3 Squadron Tomahawk. It is the 1/72 Airfix Hurricane Mk.I. I removed all of the fabric detail on the wings. Then I re-scribed them so that i could represent a later Mk.I with metal wings. I built this one to represent a Mk.I with 401 Squadron RCAF during the Battle of Britain. They were stationed at RAF Northolt circa August or early September 1940. This was a build i decided to undertake to honor those few that are left that fought during the B.o.B.. Please feel free to ask questions, comment, or pass on your thoughts. Dennis
  3. I'll be building Ian 'Widge' Gleed's No. 87 Squadron RAF Hawker Hurricane Mk I from the Airfix 1/72 kit, OOB as usual for me (apart from the markings of course and a bit of fiddling). I wanted to build something that was near Bath and Wikipedia says "The first occupants of Charmy Down was No. 87 Squadron RAF, with night-fighting Hawker Hurricanes..." They were on detachment from Exeter and were covering Bristol from Colerne and / or Charmy Down. This is covered in Gleed's book "Arise to Conquer" (thanks to Airgunner for the reference). LK-A sported the "Figaro" Cat Motif from Disney's Pinocchio clawing a Swastika with Blood soaked Paw. This is covered in XtraDecal sheet X72222 (scheme and more later when I get back to Blighty!). Chocks away!
