  1. I started a discussion recently about Helo Super Kits and a WIP on one of those, the Special Hobby AH-1G in Revell's guise. So far so good, the Cobra really turns into a lovely build even from the hands of a mediocre modeller (at least compared to some others whose work can be seen here), there are additional parts available, like your usual PE cockpit, and correct resin air intakes - though the latter is causing a bit of a halt here while sanding it to fit (it's already arrived, yay). So, everything here's neat and tidy, and there's just minor challenges to be mastered to turn this into an impressive models. But! Having said about me being a mediocre modeller, it's not I'm a total noob. I do know my way round about the basics of say weathering, can handle my CA to glue some PE together, or get most decals down without looking like a lake in full moon. The limits are, where it comes to scratchbuilding on a larger scale, so more than just your usual Evergreen strip here and there. It's not that I don't know how to do it (in theory I do most of the times) it's just me being lazy and lacking time and energy to build those wonders here. I bow my head to thee, you Masters of the Impossible and Lords of Scratchbuilding. I won't sit on your table in the Olymp of modelling tonight. So, what to do in the usual case, when you are after a certain model, and you plan to build it so it doesn't totally stink off sitting next to one of these super kits. Like, this one:
  2. Welcome to what should be the second build of this GB, the venerable Hasegawa Bf109G-6. I have had this kit for some time, collecting bits of AM, awaiting the right moment to present itself. The obligatory opening shots: Again the final scheme is undecided as yet but it will be one of the two provided: For Grislawski's aircraft, I also pulled the profile from the Eduard Bf109G-06 Royal Class to compare: Bartel's aircraft need a tropical filter and that is included in the AM: Onto the AM. Well if I cannot do something with this lot, I should give up. First is the HGW Riveting set, a first for me but I am keen to put my toe in the water, so to speak. On the metal side of the AM aisle we have Eduard full PE set, blotch mask set which may or may not get a run, canopy mask, Rexx exhausts and Master Barrels Fw190A-6 armament set for the MG131 tips, MG151 barrel for the gondolas and pitot: Moving over to the resin side of the AM aisle, we have Ultracast extra wide prop blades, wheels (on order) and Bf109G seat with belts, EE spinner, QB Tropical filter So that sees me set up for an exciting run of firsts. Regards,
  3. Encouraged by the kind words for my first WIP, I'm back for more: I grabbed this off the top of the stash, After opening the box and laughing hysterically for 10 minutes at the million microscopic parts I put it back and got this instead: Much better. There isn’t much to the main airframe but the UC is very impressive and far from it’s easy build roots. Look at the detail on the hubs and UC legs : Just going to add some detail to the front UC bay as it’s a wee bit bare, some nice clear tip lights as well. Decided to make it an Eismeer whiffer as they seemed fond of odd camos when in Nordic climes. I borrowed the scheme from my AZ Gotha P60 and photoshopped a guide: Paint will be the supposedly horrible new Humbrol RLM enamels as I’m feeling lucky, well am I punk? OK, I got these cheap at LSA's closing down sale and thought hey why not? There is an RLM 76 somewhere but I have a couple carrier bags of etch and resin to sort, that its nestling down in , cowering from what I intend to do to it with Rustins driers and car shop cellulose thinners. Oops forget to add this before posting: The informed will know that HB have mangled the propblades so they defy any known aeronautical laws: After careful consideration I decided that this is just a little plastic model and it isn’t going on any combat missions. It’ll be fine unless it meets a rivet counter but thankfully, I fall asleep after the third word when they start pontificating about Shturm und Drang propellor logos and the length of handle for late model 109g flush toilet cisterns. I have also acquired these little vinyl masks to ease the pain of the panes in the canopy. Never heard of Pmask but they look identical to Montex masks. More will follow unless the Xmas cheer and soda renders me incoherent. Cheers Anil
