Saw this for the first time today and snapped one up. For most of us on this site the main interest will be in the transfer sheet, which is for "Pat" Pattle's L8011 YK-O of 80 Sq at Amriya, Egypt, in spring 1940. So what does the sheet comprise? A total of 8 subjects: the 4 instrument panel transfers, 2 upper surface Type B roundels and 2 transfers for the fuselage sides comprising the codes, Type A roundels and serials. The red in the roundels is quite bright to me: not sure whether it's intended to be the pre-war shade. To be fair, I already knew that all the Airfix starter sets come with simplified transfer sheets so I don't quite know what I was expecting. However my immediate reaction was one of disappointment: for the £2 extra I felt I'd gained me 4 transfers but lost all the stencil markings of the basic kit. I've thawed a bit now: I'm not sure that I could have replicated the code sizes (exactly 10mm high so about 28" in real life) and precise proportions from any of my code letter transfer sheets. But I am still thinking I shall need to replace those roundels. BTW the colour scheme is Dark Earth (29)/Dark Green (30) with Black/White undersides split along the centreline and aluminium undersides to the upper wing and tailplanes. I'm inclined to think the real thing would have carried full stencilling but am open to the thoughts of others. Anyway, I thought others out there might like to know what you get so you can make an informed choice.
