  1. Well, in very recent times I finished 3 kits! Naturally I have bought three times that amount since the last finished kit, but that's normal I guess. I should really get back to some of my sleeping kits (the Sea Vixen, FJ-4 Fury and Strike Draken comes to mind) but that's not how I work... No, instead I was going right into a Tamiya Mossie, just to discover that I really need the decals first in order to decide with version to do but that Hannants order will not arrive instantly but hopefully by the end of next week, or a bit later. What to do in the meantime? Well, there is a competition in southern Sweden at the end of October and one thing that I've learned is that the small scale aircraft classes are not that well filled, so that means that there is a greater chance for me to win something, and since the prices at C4 Open are GREAT why not give 1/144 scale a shot? I mean, how hard can that be? We'll see... My plastic victim is this, which is probably a quite familiar sight. A fance boxart, and two marking options, both Falklands. I do have a soft spot for Wild weasels, and there are two ALARM missiles included, but I didn't fell for these markings, and duly ordered the full fündekals offering instead. Two huge pieces, quite well packaged. It does have a slight leaning towards a snap-fit kit. I expect the basic assembly will be swift. Very nice panel lines, but a quite matt very very slightly pebbly surface. It cannot really be felt properly but it does show in pictures and natural light. I'd guess a polish or three could sort it out Look here! Slide molded intakes! Very nice, but why did they include the frontface of the Avons? It'll be impossible to paint those! Some other parts, includin 386 wheels 😨 I KNEW there was a catch More Falklands equipment and some tiny tiny crew. Look! You get a stand as well! Naturally I couldn't resist some AM parts, but just a turned refuelling probe will do. This time! I intend to do one of those wraparound painted Vulcans that tore up Red Flag excercises back in the days. Something that I need to know before I start proper? //Serial Kitstarter Christer
  2. Hello Here we go with another Airfix Sea Fury. I did consider purchasing another kit, but presently this is the only Hawker kit I have so I am being a good boy and not buying anything else. I am lucky that my kit appears to have none of the moulding faults of some kits. I am planning on doing a Canadian machine off HMCS Magnificent off the newly released Fundekals decal sheet, which I plan on ordering over the weekend. Some photos. http://www.fundekals.com/seaFury.html
  3. The Mighty Vulcan Decals 1:72 Fündekals This large decal set from Fündekals allows you to build (and decal of course!) virtually any Vulcan, with variations on insignia for different periods for those that want to model a particular airframe at a certain point in its life. The sheet is split between two sheets. The first covers national insignia, codes and squadron crests, and any peculiarities such as the anti-flash white stencils in pale blue and pink, while the second smaller sheet holds all the stencils for the camouflaged aircraft in impressive detail. It also covers the dielectric panels that are dotted around the airframe, and there are quite a few there. Packaging is simple, and consists of a close-fitting polythene bag, but the decals are posted in a suitably robust outer shipping envelope to prevent damage to the precious contents. The decals are very nicely printed with good register, colour density and sharpness, which means that all the stencils are legible if your eyes or magnification are good enough. I'm struggling today though, as my angle-poise lamp has konked out! The instructions are available as PDF format here, with 24+ airframes in profile, plus further pages detailing the stencilling and plenty of written detail to help you make the right choices whilst building and decaling your tin-triangle. The instructions even cover the engine types and fitment of Blue Steel and ECM plate configurations, which is all very important if you're going to get it right. The last page includes a markings-centred potted history, plus notes on the 24 airframes profiled to assist you with your build. Conclusion Not only are the decals beautifully designed and printed, but I suspect this is one of the most detailed and helpful instruction booklets that I have seen for a decal sheet. Running to fifteen pages in total, you'll learn something just by reading it, and the price of the decals has been kept to a very reasonable $15 by providing digital instructions – don't forget to add postage to your country to that though. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
