  1. I have mentioned in previous threads that I have something of a 1940 obsession. It started out innocently enough, with a plan to build at least one example of the aircraft that took part in the Battle of Britain, the Battle itself being another obsession in its own right. With the models I build I wanted to try to tell a wider story than the typical "brave boys in their Spitfires against the mighty Luftwaffe" kind. I began to add aircraft of Bomber, Coastal, Army Co-Operation commands, Fleet Air Arm and sundry others to the UK side in an attempt to even up the odds. When you realise more Bomber Command crew members died during the Battle period than Fighter Command losses, you begin to realise there is an untold story behind the myths of the Battle of Britain. Inevitably, the Battle of Britain edges started to blur. Interest started to shift backwards from the official July to October Battle period. The numbers of aircraft also grew, and it eventually became a plan to build at least one example of every type of aircraft that flew in the Western European theatre during the whole of 1940, from all sides of the conflict: Norway campaign, Phoney War, Blitzkrieg (France, Belgium, Holland), Operation Dynamo, Battle of Britain, Night Blitz, the beginnings of the Battle of the Atlantic, and the new types just coming into service at the end of 1940. So far, numerous models have been built and kits are in the stash, and steadily being acquired, which cover the types flown by the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, and Italy. I know: I’m a little bit mad. This work in progress thread will be about the French planes of 1940. Rather than start threads for each type, I’m lumping them all together in one place, though I’m not going to build them all at once. I’ll try and do the same for the other air forces as I get round to them. The bulk of the British and German protagonists have been built already, with only the oddities and strays to round up. I expect I’ll run individual threads for those. This particular thread will also be a bit about my journey of discovery, as I learn about the Armée de l'Air, the various aircraft the force could muster, and something about the pilots who flew them to try and stem the German invasion in the spring of 1940. I suspect there are some excellent references out there from France, but the language barrier is raised. While expanding my reference library is always a welcome, if sometimes expensive, pastime, I’m trying to rely on the World Wide Web, supplemented with some printed material, in order to move a little beyond what I find in the boxes. I suspect these builds, however, will mostly be straight "out of the box" builds. Honestly, most of the kits I’ve so far acquired seem sufficiently accurate to be able to do just that. I hope fellow BMers with be forthcoming to fill in the gaps in my knowledge, as I know there’s more than a few also interested in the events of 1940. So, what’s first on the agenda?
  2. Here's another Mirage completed same time as my F1. What an absolutely fantastic kit this is by Modelsvit. No filler needed & the best surface detail I've ever seen (so far) on a 1/72 kit. Definitely worth the money as this is slightly more expensive than similar sized kits. Also comes with full etch set for cockpit & fuselage antennas plus canopy masking set. The engineering on this kit is perfection. If Modelsvit can do this then why can't everyone else? Decals from the Syhart "Last Flight Cambrai-Epinoy" sheet. Mirage 2000C 1/72 No.85 103-LK "ESTA 2E.012" Primed with Ammo Mig black primer, both greys from the Hataka Brazillian Mirage Redline set & the exhaust from the Vallejo Metal Colour range. Klear gloss, Mig B/B PLW then final coat of Xtracrylic matt. Found another Master Mirage 2000C pitot in the spares box, which is the only improvement needed to this kit. Thanks for looking. Martin
  3. Since I Have some Free Weekends this month....Decided to make a Simple Base For This one : Already Scratch-built a simple "Mototok" type Tug out of cardboard pieces and some guitar strings to go along a hand painted Deck Base And last week , I started sculpting a couple of figures out of epoxy clay Sure, I can buy some online... but it seems more fun to make em myself.... and its super super super cheap So,here we go The supplies : Indians would really appreciate these, I believe The Colours are mostly basic, so any colour i need...I have to mix them myself ...super cheap..love em Epoxy Clay... dries hard, water soluble initially...i also use it for filling gaps in model joints...extremely cheap... Love it clear resin epoxy, colour inks...for making transparency... Don't have clear acrylic paints here ...not for cheap atleast...so i make my own work around... comparatively cheap.... Works!!! varnishes...the usual stuff
  4. This is the 48th scale Hobbyboss Tucano. Built as an EMB-312F serving with the French Air Force while based at Salon-de-provence AB in 2009. Extras are the fantastic @CaracalModelsdecals, Pavla ejection seats and Quick boost exhausts. It's now my favourite subject in the display cabinet. Cheers, Mick
  5. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 AZ Model Potez 540 Transport, a re-box of the venerable Heller kit. The model was painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. I would like to thank fellow Britmodellers TonyTiger66, VG33, BS_w and Graham Boak for their help in research. Much appreciated! Thanks for your interest, best greetings from Vienna!
  6. Hi everyone ! Here is a 1/72 Mirage 2000d I recently finished ! I always wanted to build one, here it is. The Revell kit was nice, even though it is slightly inaccurate (the wings are to small, some details are missing...). But hey ! it is 1/72 and I wanted to really finish this one (I haven't done any "model finishing" in a long while). I struggled a bit with the painting, the colors might a little to dark. Also I regret that the canopy doesn't fit... it must be made to be open... and I wanted it in flight. Anyway I hope you'll enjoy !! PS : The exact name of the scheme is "Mirage 2000D, EC 1/3 'Navarre'" in 2009, in base 133 Nancy-Ochey.
  7. Hi guys, Finished long time ago, I finally find some time to take pictures ! OOB, I only add rivets and some panel lines... Thanks for watching ! Cheers, Nenad
