  1. Howdy all, finished this one just after my Chinese Mossie, but started it a considerable time before My attempt at Roden`s 1/48 Bird Dog kit Built as usual, mostly from the box contents except for the decals which came from a Model USA kit I had in the stash I say mostly from the box, as I left a few of the engine parts out so that the cowlings fitted easier and.......... .........replaced the exhausts with metal tube, some dodgy home made seat straps and replaced the brake pipes with bits of wire to try and strengthen the undercarriage. I believe that the aircraft portrayed is the one that landed on the USS Midway in 1975 during the evacuation of S Vietnam Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  2. Hi everyone, Thought I`d show you some pic`s of my latest effort; yet another Skyraider... This time Tamiyas 1/48 A-1H, completed as an aircraft of the 514th Fighter Squadron, Son Vuong Flight, South Vietnam Air Force Circa 1962-63 Made a few alterations to the base kit with deletion of one antenna on the underside and fabricated a large blade antenna for the rear fuselage, removal of the tail hook and made blanking plate, Bombs came from the spares box and as some pic`s showed them quite lightly loaded, I thought I`d do it that for a change Decals were from the remains of a Cutting Edge sheet and some from the kit and stash Other wise just the usual seat belts, brake pipe and canvas cover behind the seat. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking, Cheers Russ
  3. Howdy All, Thought I`d share some pic`s of my latest effort, Revells reboxing of Monograms 1/48 Texan kit Completed to represent an aircraft of the Air Training Center, Nha Trang, South Vietnam, where they were used..... ...to train South Vietnamese pilots between 1954 to `56 until the training was relocated to the USA. Built pretty much from the box ( as there`s not a lot to add that Monogram didn`t provide ).... Exceptions being: wiring harness for the engine, seat belts and some aerials. Decals came from a Hobbycraft Beaver, the stash and some from the kit Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  4. Hi everyone, Just finished the Monogram 1/48 Skyraider that I originally bought to enhance my attempt at the old Matchbox kit, but which I decided to build instead. Finished to represent an A1-H from the period between the colourful Counter Insurgency Grey and the eventual adoption of the standard USAF SEA camouflage In the markings of the 516th F.S., DaNang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, 1966-67 and used for Clandestine Special Operations ( as described in several references but what they were is not made clear ) Inspiration for the scheme came from Osprey Combat Aircraft No 97 which gives a side profile, so spent a fair time searching on Google and in books where it became apparent that..... ....the schemes weren`t standard at that time and differed from aircraft to aircraft and Squadron to Squadron, they weathered rapidly almost to the point that the original grey was showing through. Anyway, it`s mostly from what`s in the box, except replaced the kits dodgy fire bombs and undersized inner pylons, reworked the antenna layout to suit a VNAF aircraft....... and decals came from the remains of a Cutting Edge Decal Sheet. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  5. Hi Everyone, Here`s another addition to my `Flying Dragons` South Vietnam Air Force collection and an aircraft I never envisaged building as regards Vietnam Tamiyas 1/48 Storch kit Converted to an MS 500 Criquet as used by the fledgling South Vietnamese Air Force in the early 1950`s Firstly as a Flight Trainer and later as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) Most of the parts to do it were in the box luckily, the only additions being a couple of power bulges on the engine cowling and some after market decals from Hannants. I had to sand off the fabric effect from the wings as these had aluminium skinned ones. Hope you enjoy, Thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  6. Hi Everyone, Just thought I`d show some pic`s of my attempt at converting a Tamiya 1/48 A-1J to a A-1E using nearly all the bits from Matchboxes finest. Completed to represent an A-1E of 524th FS, Nha Trang AB, VNAF although the decal instructions put it as 412th FS, so I could be wrong. Actually I only used the Tamiya wheels, retraction linkages, prop and cowl flaps that I salvaged from a previous build ...... that got crushed when a picture fell on it. Improvements to the Matchbox kit include; air scoop on the tail, wing fences on the flap/aileron join, windscreen wiper, did the seats up a lot, a lot of sanding of the cowling, reworked weapons load, antenna layout and some steps at the wing root, emptied the blue room and detailed a bit....... and of course the wheel wells, Decals from a Caracal set. Hope you enjoy looking at Cheers Russ
  7. Howdyall, Finished this one just before I started back on shifts earlier in the week.. Trumpy`s 1/48 Cessna A-37 Dragonfly Completed to represent an aircraft of; 520th Fighter Squadron, & 74th Tactical Wing, 4th Air division at Binh Thuy, 1970 Built completely OOB except for whip aerials and decals... which came from Print & Scale sheet 48-076 Sanded the top of the tail pipe down as they`re a bit curved front to back... and deleted a few of the blade antenna as befitting a VNAF airframe. Hope you enjoy, Thanks for looking Cheers Russ
