  4. HobbyBoss is to release 1/48th Sukhoi Su-17M-4 & Su-17UM-3 "Fitter-K & G" kits - ref. 81758 & 81759 - in 2016-2017 Source: https://www.facebook.com/TrumpeterModel/photos/a.103538733138062.8169.103526326472636/537476479744283/?type=3&theater V.P.
  5. Stencil Decals for Su-7 (D48089 for KP/Eduard) 1:48 Eduard Decals Eduard’s stencil range has been growing steadily of late, providing sharp, detailed stencilling for numerous types, some of which are lacking from the originating manufacturer’s box. The latter can come in handy for your average modeller, as sometimes the kit doesn’t include a complete set of stencils for expediency or whatever reason. Some folks, myself included, think that the inclusion of a full suite of stencils adds extra realism to a model, although there is of course the time element and the extra carrier film edges to hide. Eduard have been busy of late and have released this comprehensive set we have to review. It arrives in a clear foil re-sealable envelope with a card stiffener, a cover page with instructions, plus the decals with wax paper protecting the delicate printed surface. This set arrives on one sheet, and is patterned specific for the KP, Kopro, Směr or Eduard kits, which are all essentially from the same root tooling. Over the course of four profiles from overhead, underneath, and the sides, plus a page of tail, wing, wheel spat, and pylon profiles, the locations of all the many stencils are shown clearly on greyscale line drawings that use coloured arrows to differentiate from the background. There are also scrap diagrams detailing the placement of decals on the inside faces of the pylons for ultimate detail. Link to PDF of instructions. The decals are printed in-house by Eduard and have good register, sharpness and colour density, with a glossy carrier film printed close to the edges of the printed areas. Highly recommended. 8. Lockdown time... Some free time for modelling. Yes I'm not only a rumourmonger but also a modeller. I went to my bench and had a look at the too numerous started and unfinished projects (Am I the only one ?) and for an undefinite reason I choosed that f. vintage OEZ 1/48th Sukhoi Su-7BKL/BMK "Fitter-A" - ref.02 I started assembling this kit years ago but was not really satisfied to say the least with the parts fitting, rather ironic for a Fitter but... This time I think it's ok. After a lot of sanding and rescribing, I finally initiated the painting works. Pre-shading time https://nsa40.casimages.com/img/2020/05/04/200504093826618672.jpg https://nsa40.casimages.com/img/2020/05/04/200504093828142445.jpg Then MR. Paint for the dark green and the light grey-blue, AKAN for the sand and radome green After appropriate Klir and wash, she's ready for decalling with Hi-Decal Line ref. 4812 That's the moment I've discovered the Microset stock is empty... Grrrr. Waiting my order: 3 bottles, one for use, two for stock. Also still waiting the release from the long promised (since February 2017...) Kovozávody Prostějov 1/48th Sukhoi Su-7U/UMK "Moujik" link And as it was too difficult to choose the variant, I've in the meantime started a trio of 1/48th Tarangus/Special Hobby Viggen: JA37 grey camo, AJ37 in splinting, Sk37 in progress. But that's another story. V.P.

  10. In 1972 the Sukhoi design bureau began work on another variant of the Su-17, it was known only by its in-house designation S-32MK "гибридный" or hybrid, this mated the wings of the Su-7BMK to the fuselage of the Su-17M. The aircraft first flew in February 1973 piloted by Vladimir Krechetov. The only known photo of the S-32MK to exist in the west, note the large bomb load able to be carried. Also note how the gun blast plates are still installed but the twin NR-30 cannons are not. The S-32MK's fuselage was taken from the new into production Su-17M, for the S-32MK the uprated AL-21F-3 engine was fitted which provided more thrust compared to the standard Fitters then in production. During tests the performance of the Hybrid was better than the Su-17 then in service, the S-32 reached a height of 1800M, 1500M higher than the standard Su-17M. The fitting of the Su-7BMK wing had positives and negatives, the removal of the complicated and heavy Su-17 swing wing system allowed for not only a lighter airframe but a Increase in the fuel capacity (400kg extra fuel) the removal of the swing wing also allowed for maintenance to be much easier. However a drawback of the wing was a return to the Su-7s high landing and takeoff speeds, poor agility at low speeds and a high stall speed, however the more powerful engine helped to improve the handling. The test machine also had a 100mph higher top speed compared to the Su-17M due to all the weight saving. A side view of the aircraft, again showing the large number of pylons, and highly swept wing. The aircraft was planned to be armed with the standard twin NR-30, 30mm cannons in the wing roots with 80 rounds per gun, the standard six Su-7 pylons (two under each wing and two under the fuselage) were joined by two inner pylons from the standard Su-17 creating a total of eight pylons, two more compared to standard Su-17s, the weight saving allowed for the increase in weapons. The soviet Airforce although interested in the design favoured the Mig-27 and Su-17M, therefore Sukhoi offered the jet on export. It was given the export name Su-20, Egypt was the first country to show interest in the new Sukhoi. However Egypt opted for the Su-17M, as it had bad past experiences with the Su-7 and saw the swept wing Su-20 as a throwback to past experiences, Syria also showed interest however they soon withdrew interest. With the lack of interest by both Soviet and overseas airforces finally meant to a scrapping of the project and in mid 1975 the aircraft was withdrawn from tests and sent to Tula and used as a mechanic practise aircraft until the 1990s, the airframes existence after 1990 is unknown however it is rumoured that it was more than likely scrapped. Artwork of the S-32MK during tests. The 17 red was only applied for later flights.
  11. Its been a while since I have posted an RFI (work, travel and children!), but here is the 1:48 KittyHawk SU-22M4 Fitter. Not a kit to cut your teeth on, but certainly not as bad as some of the online reviews would have you think. My biggest issues were: The multi-part fuselage (take your time and try not to introduce an error, ask me how I know!). Wing Fences needed a little bit of dry fitting, trimming and fettling (not that difficult). Pylon locations were indistinct and the instructions were vague and missing detail. Jet pipe was too long, easy enough to cut out a section. Nose cone has no wedge shaped splitter, either FOD guard it or use AM. However there are some very good bits in regards to the kit, the wing fit was exceptional. Huge selection of stores and a plethora of potential options for users both in the kit decals and aftermarket. Aftermarket used: Eduard Interior 49829 Eduard Brassin B-8M1 Rocket pods and pylons 648 041 CWS nose cone Wolfpack resin seat Master Pitot (very, very fragile) and Model Maker decals and stencils (really thin and lots of stencils, instructions got a bit vague with the high numbered stencil identification but they are reccomended) Paints were Gunze with levelling thinners, oils used for cockpit, seat details, wash and weathering. I have been informed since taking the pictures that the dorsal spine blade aerial has been updated, so that's a minor job for later this week to scratch and correct.
  12. Hello! Here is the other of two kits I completed this past weekend. It's Mark I Models' 1:144 scale Sukhoi Su-7BM "Fitter A" built as 5024, 28th Fighter Bomber Regiment (28. sbolp), Czechoslovak Air Force, at Caslav Air Base, in 1964. This kit was Attack's Su-7B repackaged by Mark I with resin parts added to make a nuclear-armed Su-7BM. Apart from the nuke itself, the resin parts included the fuselage spine ducts and a nose probe. The kit was built mostly OOB with only the missing wingtip probes and some main undercarriage arms added from stretched sprue as on the Su-7B. As with the Su-7B, I replaced the wing guns with thinner ones also from stretched sprue. I also added a missing duct along the port underside, also from stretched sprue. The blister on the top of the nose (for the Su-7B data boom) had to be removed (not mentioned in the instructions) and a side blister for the new nose probe had to be made since it didn't come with the nose data boom as seemed to be indicated in the instructions. The new data boom was slightly bent and I didn't manage to get it straight. When I had completed the kit I discovered that the outer wing pylons shouldn't have been added as these were only used on the later Su-7BMK and retrofitted to Indian AF earlier Fitter As. The instructions were very unclear and/or misleading in various aspects. Although it is doubtful Czechoslovakian AF Fitters ever carried nukes (unlike on the illustration of the card - this was a bagged kit), probably not even training rounds, I put the nuke on this kit in a bit of a "what if" had things turned for the worse. Of the four options in the kit, the only one we could "safely" have carrying the nuke would have been the Soviet machine but I didn't want two Soviet Fitters and the Czech machine had an emblem in the nose making it different and a little more colourful so I took that option. The kit was fully painted and varnished with brush. Thank you for looking and all comments are welcome Miguel
  13. Hello! Here is one of two kits I completed this past weekend. It's Attack's 1:144 scale Sukhoi Su-7B "Fitter A" built as "Red 29" of the Soviet tactical aviation (Frontovaya Aviatsiya), in the early 1960s. The kit was built mostly OOB with only the missing nose and wingtip probes and some main undercarriage arms added from stretched sprue. The thick wing guns were replaced by new ones from stretched sprue. The anti-glare panel was part of a decal from the other kit (Mark I's Su-7BM) which I cut to use as a guide to paint the whole thing since the gap for the windscreen was too narrow. I also hollowed out the rear ends of the rocket pods. The underfuselage pylons should have been placed 1-2mm further back. The distance indicated in the instructions was clearly wrong and I only realised it at the end when I glued on the fuel tanks. The kit was fully painted and varnished with brush. Thank you for looking and all comments are welcome as always Miguel

  17. So, I've finished it - more or less. It still needs figures, and I may still 'tweak' the weathering here and there. The first photos aren't great - the colour balance is a bit off, and I don't seem to be able to fix it - just like the Achzarit... What this probably means, is that I've got the colour right... IDF Sand Grey/Sinai Grey doesn't seem to photograph very well. I've just taken another, which is a bit better. That side-on shot, shows the 'down by the stern' trim - these vehicles all seem to 'sag' that way, so I 'fixed' the suspension so it did too. Sorry about the banner - I still need to pass someone a few dollars to get rid of it!
  18. Kovozávody Prostějov is to re-re-release in 2017, in its Premium Line, the classic OEZ/Smer 1/48th Su-7BKL and Su-17/-22M4 "Fitter" kits. Of particular interest is a two-seater variant Su-22UM-3K "Fitter-G", based on the OEZ Su-17, but with a new tool fuselage, resin part, PE and masks. 19. Su-17M4 Update Sets (for Hobby Boss) 1:48 Eduard After years of no new tool Su-17/22 we've now got plenty of choices, with Hobby Boss's new offering a nice kit. Eduard's new range of sets are here to improve on the kit detail in the usual modular manner. Get what you want for the areas you want to be more of a focal point. As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, they arrive in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between. Interior (49855) Two frets are included, one nickel plated and pre-painted, the other in bare brass. A complete set of new layered instrument panels and side consoles are the primary parts on the painted set, with new rudder pedals; ejection seat details including cushions and leg restraints; coaming instrumentation including HUD (with acetate glazing) and canopy internal structure and sills also supplied. Zoom! Set (FE855) This set contains a reduced subset of the interior, namely the pre-painted parts that are used to improve on the main aspects of the cockpit, as seen above. Whatever your motivations for wanting this set, it provides a welcome boost to detail, without being concerned with the structural elements. Seatbelts STEEL (FE856) In case you don't already know, these belts are Photo-Etch (PE) steel, and because of their strength they can be etched from thinner material, which improves realism and flexibility in one sitting. Coupled with the new painting method that adds perceived extra depth to the buckles and other furniture by shading, they are more realistic looking and will drape better than regular brass PE. As well as the set of crew belts, you also get a set of the pull-handles between the pilot's knees that gets him out of there in case of an emergency. Exterior (48931) This larger bare brass set contains some important upgrades, such as delicate new afterburner ring, with scrap diagrams showing how they should be arranged; a host of sensors and aerials under and over the nose; splitter plates at the wing roots; access panels along the spine; static wicks on the flying surfaces; more in-scale wing fences and wing details; a set of chocks for the mainwheels; pitot probe fins and filler caps for the fuel tanks. Masks (EX561) Supplied on a sheet of yellow kabuki tape, these pre-cut masks supply you with a full set of masks for the canopy, with compound curved handled by using frame hugging masks, while the highly curved gaps are in-filled with either liquid mask or offcuts from the background tape. 20. Kovozávody Prostějov is to release a new variant from the old OEZ/Kopro 1/48th Fitter - ref. KPM4803 - Sukhoi Su-7BM "Fitter-A" Source: http://www.kovozavody.cz/produkt/su-7bm/ - ref. KPM4804- Sukhoi Su-7BM "Fitter-A" - Poland Source: http://www.kovozavody.cz/produkt/su-7bm-poland/ V.P.
  21. Su-17M3/M4 Upgrade Sets (for KittyHawk) 1:48 Eduard There's been a lot of chatter about this new kit from KittyHawk, and it's nice to have a newly tooled kit in this scale, so here are Eduard's upgrades and accessory sets for your new purchase. As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, they arrive in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between. Interior Set (49829) A two sheet set with one nickel plated and pre-painted, containing a full set of instrument panels with layered detail and highly detailed instrument faces where appropriate. In addition are extra parts for the ejection seat, a more in-scale HUD with acetate film for the glazing; canopy framing details; internal structural parts for the canopy and hoops for the front of the canopy as well as the rear of the windscreen parts. Zoom! Set (FE829) This set contains a reduced subset of the interior, namely the pre-painted parts that are used to improve on the main aspects of the cockpit, as seen above. Whatever your motivations for wanting this set, it provides a welcome boost to detail, without being concerned with the structural elements. Seatbelts STEEL (49830) In case you don't already know, they are Photo-Etch (PE) steel, and because of their strength they can be etched from thinner material, which improves realism and flexibility in one sitting. Coupled with the new painting method that adds perceived extra depth to the buckles and other furniture by shading, they are more realistic looking and will drape better than regular brass PE. Also included in the fret is a replacement for the ejection handles in glorious red, with white stencils. Exterior (48922) Made up from one large sheet of etched brass, the set contains the various (and many) vanes on the pitot probe; filler caps for the fuel tanks; a more detailed sensor fit under the nose including AoA probes; a new egg-shaped panel at the wing root; a blade antenna for Polish aircraft with a fitting template; static wicks for the wings; pylon attachment-point skins; wing-glove fittings and wing strakes; a replacement bay for the wing-mounted cannons, plus a guide for enlarging the aperture, and finally a guide to correct the exhaust nozzle length, and a replacement afterburner ring to detail it. FOD Set (48923) When parked up, almost all aircraft are routinely fitted with FOD guards to prevent ingress of Foreign Object Debris into sensitive areas. No-one likes a spanner in their intake trunking, or an accidental discharge of a weapon! The sheet contains a nose-cone FOD guard, which requires you to roll a cone (not that kind!), and form the lip around the intake at the front, and a guide to shorten the exhaust (as per the exterior set above) so that the rear guard will fit snugly. The rear part is complex, with a box-section inside the circle, and strengthening shapes moulded in that will need pressing in with the tip of a ball-point pen. Chocks are built up for the main wheels, a cover for the sensor on the tail fillet, and nearby strake-mounted sensors; FODs for the various sensors; intakes and exhausts on the fuselage, and small covers for the wing-mounted cannon bays. Air Brakes (48924) A medium-sized brass fret that contains the parts necessary to replace the kit airbrakes. Firstly, the bay apertures are squared off by removing the shape around the edges, before the replacement bay is folded up, and inserted from inside before closing up the fuselage. The brakes are then given a detail skin that is festooned with rivets. Review sample courtesy of
  22. Hi Guys, Here are my Su-7 Fitters from OEZ but reboxings from Smer and Eduard. Not very easy kits but very well build able. Added air scoops and ventilation louvres from Quickboost and resin ejection seats from Eduard. Armament is a mix from the kit and from a Eduard MiG-21. The Iraqi decals are from the Eduard box and the Algerian came of a decalset from Hi-Decal. ] Erik
  23. This beauty arrived yesterday and with the best of intentions I want to finish another swing-winger first (Revell's 1/48 Tornado), but I know what I'm like and there's every chance I'll cave and start this sooner. I've always wanted to build an Su-17/22 so when the KH CAD shot appeared last year it was merely a waiting game! Im surprised there hasn't already been one started here, and the kits come in for quite a bit of stick online (so did Revell's Tornado mind you and mines been a pleasure so far!) so I'm looking forward to seeing if this really is that bad. The he box and content is certainly impressive so far, will post a few more pics tomorrow. Eng
