This was a fun and uncomplicated model to build and I recommend this series for anyone wanting to build a Bf 109 Gustav. This one depicts a Gustav that was delivered to unit HLeLv.31 in 1946 and served until the early 1950s. The decals were lovely and thin and I used some of the stencils from the kit, perhaps more than was necessary. Painted with Vallejo and Vallejo Air and I tried my best with the mottling on the nose. I will improve now that I have watched some good tutorials on a certain website regarding small dots and high pressure and thin paint. Weathering was with FloryWash and the more I use the stuff, the more I like it. Not only does it bring out the panel lines, but because it is made of clay, it has a very fine abrasive quality that gives the whole of the kit a uniform dull shine which, I feel, is accurate. Canopy masks were from Montex which worked wonderfully on flat surfaces but any compound curve was problematic. I have read this here already so it is not a new complaint. I have a list coming up of other Gustav--Swiss, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian...all by AZ and, I am pretty sure, all the same kit with minor differences, mostly cosmetic. The WiP is here...
Happy modelling!
