  1. Here is my latest kit: a fictional Convair F-92A Dart in JASDF markings. This is an Anigrand 1:144 resin kit that came with the Firefox I built previously. It was supposed to be the XF-92 masquerading as a MiG-23 in the 19578 film "Jet Pilot". The kit didn't come with markings neither for this nor for the XF-92 prototype. Although I later found where I could get the latter I was already set on converting it into an operational fighter in Japanese markings as I saw it as something that wouldn't look out of place in those old Japanese sci-fi films. Apart from fixing moulding flaws, one of which caused me to square off the wingtips, and correcting the overly wide cockpit sides sills due to the narrow canopy, I made a series of modifications and additions. The canopy was modified to a more appropriate fighter bubble-type. I replaced the nose probe for a thinner one without the extra experimental parts as well as the missing tail fin probe. I also added the missing radio antenna but moved it back so it wouldn't be in the way of the canopy when it slid back. The nose undercarriage was shortened to a correct height and the doors were thinned as much as I could. The arrangement of the main doors was altered as one would end up lower than the wheel. I also decided not to split the rear nose door. As this "variant" was fictional, I could get away with it! The missile pylons and missiles came from the spares box. The kit was fully painted and varnished with brush. The fuselage decals came from a Platz F-104J kit and the wing hinomaru came from generic Mark I decal sheets. The end result was exactly what I wanted to achieve and I am very pleased with it. Thanks for looking and, as always, all comments are welcome. Miguel
  2. Evening Ladies and Gents, I have a story to share. Behold this marvel of Soviet engineering, the MiG-15. I’ve been told that a couple of them have been built over the years. This one is mine, and, well, the build was... an experience (i.e. horribly cursed). So it all started when I tried to assemble the fuselage. The halves wouldn’t fit and I had to do много sanding. Then when cementing the wings, I realized that I had done the wrong variant. The seat kept falling out of the cockpit, and I forgot to glue the ballast, resulting in it all leaking out. I planned to use maskol to mask the blue camo lines, but when I opened the jar, it had hardened into a solid mass. When painting, the white didn’t come on right and I had to sand it and redo it. The bombs wouldn’t fit on the pylons, the right wing broke for no reason, and when I was finally putting the decals on, they inverted on themselves. Finally, the wash I used leaked out of its bottle. Nonetheless, I soldiered on through and eventually triumphed. Please pardon his appearance, the rear canopy is still drying. This came as part of the Royal Class Quattro pack, so there’ll be more to come (I’ve heard nothing but praise for these kits, so hopefully the next are not nearly as painful as this one). Cheers, Olivér
  3. So, this is my first planned diorama, and the first diorama I've attempted (actually, that's not true, I bashed one together out of balsa wood a long time ago ). But it will be the first diorama since I started putting more effort into my modelling. So far I only have the rough plan of it, and what will decorate it. Its one of at least three dioramas I have planned for this particular setting, which is a fictional conflict between China and Japan. This one will be set on a Tokyo street and features a Humvee crew meeting with a small group of JGSDF soldiers. Over the years I've picked up a number of JGSDF figures, some from the Iraq Humanitarian Assistance set and others the Type 90 w/ loading crew (which I'll probably put with my Abrams). Only painted up the two shown here so far (that camo is tedious, maybe more so than ACU). The additional decoration for this idea came from the Meng barriers set. The k-rails in the set I've painted up and will likely use with my Bradley idea. I also planned to get two other Meng sets, one being the highway set (possibly for the Abrams) and the other the vending machine (for the Bradley). The Bradley (an M2A3 BUSK), which I've started building, will also be in NATO three-tone. So without further ado, here's a basic look at what my idea could look like Gaz
