  6. Garden shot with stand photoshopped out. A bit of a vid to show sensor activation, runs for 30 seconds (adjustable). Supplies 6v for motors and lights. The same stand as used on an Argosy build from last year. Bit messy I know, I’m not sure what angle the rotorshaft should be tilting forward but it seems about right. The main rotor is driven via a 6v 200rpm motor gear box.. I think I remember the real thing was about 230 - 240 rpm. The rotor head isn’t fixed to the shaft (although it goes through it) but has a slipping clutch effect on the collar shown, which is fixed. It takes about 15 seconds for the rotor head to catch up with the shaft. (The nuts shown aren’t used) I did it like this because I didn’t want a high speed motor running away with it’s self and difficult to keep it slower and steady speed. But then the problem with the slower geared rotation was too much torque which would go from 0 - 200 rpm in less than a second which would either rip the blades off or rip the body apart. The tail rotor spins at about 1000rpm but is so light I just used the same motor as in my Argosy. IR jammer, as close to what I can remember when I was on 72sqn in the mid 90s

  13. Back in 1925 the newly created Regia Aeronautica signed a contract with Breda that created a flight school on Bresso airfield on the northern outskirt of Milan. That school trained young pilots using SVA 5 airplanes built in the nearby Breda factory were my grandfather was working as an apprentice. When I was a child he used to tell me a lot of stories about how they built motor cowlings, wings, carved wood to build fuselage, test wings resistance, start-up engines by hand... He used also to draft these planes teaching me about all the different components and I believe this is the reason why many years later I took the decision to become a pilot and an aerospace engineer. So, when I found this model at a local model fair, I was really excited also because decals described exactly one of those Breda school planes that my grandfather built and told me about. The model is the 1/48 Fly... I would say not an easy built. Painting has been done using airbrush with Tamiya acrylics plus special pigments for wood effect (first time I'm using them). I'm not 100% satisfied of the result, maybe I will buy another one and try to do a better job. Here you are the pictures, as usual any comment or suggestion is more than welcome. Cheers Andy

  15. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is Fly Models' 1/72 Ilyushin Il-10, "Soviet Service", built from the box. There have been a few comments about accuracy issues on this kit in the 'Rumourmonger' thread : In my humble opinion, the nose section looks undernourished, being about 2mm to slim and lacking the distinctive curavture of the original. The windscreen sits a bit too high, about 1mm. The placement of exhaust rows does not match plans either. Despite these issues, the kit builds into a well-detailed replica and does look like an Il-10 to me. A detailled build review will be featured in an upcoming edition of Scale Aviation Modeller International. The model was painted using Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics. All photogrpahs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thanks for your interest, greetings from Vienna.
  16. Hi folks While it's a pretty accurate shape with good surface texture the kit is very much 'short run' quality in terms of parts fit. It's ok, but surely a subject deserving of a first line manufacturer in 1/32. Merry Christmas to all Britmodellers! Regards J A.
  17. 18. Hi everyone My mosquito has been put to one side for a little while whilst I'm waiting for some oils to arrive from emodels so I thought I'd make a start on my Hurricane. I've seen some build reviews of the FLY Hurricane so I knew it was going to be a challenge to build but I didn't realise just how much, I think I've managed to break almost every part that I've removed from the sprues, the parts all require alot of clean up and the instructions are very vague at best, but if you want an accurate 1/32 Hurricane then it's the only game in town.....And I want a 1/32 Hurricane. I've made a start on the cockpit and my plan is to build as much as I can before I paint and detail it, it's gonna be a challenge but I think it will look ok once finished (fingers crossed). The Mosquito put safely to one side..It will get finished in due course. This took me about 3 hours tonight and as you can see the detail is very soft as is the plastic. I drilled out all the locating holes in the frame work and once I had it together I've filled the joints with my homebrew plastic filler which will hopefully give the structure some strength. I won't be doing much tomorrow as were off to Launceston for the Christmas market. Cheers all Iain
  19. After its SVA.5 early (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234934773-ansaldo-sva-5-early-italian-reconnaissance-fighter-172-fly/?hl=ansaldo) and late (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234934248-ansaldo-sva-5-late-italian-reconnaissance-fighter-172-fly/?hl=ansaldo), Fly is to release the 1/48th two-seats trainer and recce versions from this aircraft, the Ansaldo S.V.A.9 and S.V.A.10 - ref. 48010 & 48011. 21. My latest effort. This FLY's 1/32 Hurricane IIC finished as nightfighter BE581 JX-E "Night Reaper" flown by 1 Sqn ace Flt Lt Karel Kuttelwascher DFC during operations from RAF Tangmere. I found this a tricky kit to build. As mentioned in many reviews, the landing gear bay was very awkward and had to be sanded to within an inch of its life to ensure a fit. It fits snugly against the frame of the cockpit and took a lot of fettling to make the centre lower wing section fit. The outer wing fit wasn't too easy either. Finished with a brush and Xtracrylix Ocean Grey and Dark Green on the top, Revel gloss black on the underside. The decals are very nice went on a treat.

  23. Hi, as I'm sure there are many Wessex friends around here, I just wanted to share with you this great HAR.2 build by my friend Akira Watanabe: http://nabe3saviation.web.fc2.com/modelWes.html As I'm no Wessex expert myself I can't comment on the detail however the execution and the work put in and the final finish look stunning. Cheers Jeffrey (just to be clear, this isn't my model, it's Akira-san's, just posting it here)

  25. Hello all, Here is another refugee from the recent Airliner group build. This is the Fly 1/144 kit boxed by Karaya with markings for TWA. Those interested can find the build thread here... The kit itself is simple to build and has a bit of scope for improvements, some of which I've covered in the build. Likewise, the decals from Ray Charles at 26decals are easy to use and give a nice simple, clean colour scheme. One thing I've left off is the very pale grey anti-glare panel beneath the windscreen. The decal didn't work for me so I'll paint it on at a later date (ie "never"). So there it is, one of three almost completed. Feel free to comment, query, critique as you see fit. Many thanks Jeff
