  1. Hello everybody … I am almost finished with my Mitsubishi F-2, so looked through the Stash. I have three options sitting here to choose from. In descending order of my choice I have an Hasegawa 1/72 F-86D this one actually. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-02018-f-86d-sabre-dog--178363 It has two complete kits but I think only one will be in Japanese marking's as I want to do a USAF version also. Next up is this kit a 1/72 Hasegawa Cf-104/F-104J combo kit. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-00446-f-104j-cf-104-starfighter--211404 However was thinking of holding it as a second build in the Canada group build. Last choice is this an old Eagles talon vacuform 1/72 Kawasaki Ki.32 Mary. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/eagles-talon-et102-79-kawasaki-ki-32-mary--167693 This will be my first ever complete vacuform kit and it will get done but Im looking for an IM kit for some parts. Preferably the Airfix “Val” or Hasegawa “Kate” for the spats and prop as well as possibly the interior bits. If i use the “Kates interior and prop, I’d need to use the eagle talon wheel spats. So stay tuned and sometime soon a kit will start here in this thread. Which one it is will be determined by how I feel. If you wish to offer ideas or thoughts or vote please do so. Dennis
  2. Finished after A bit of repair work after coming home and finding the nose wheel snapped off, but no matter. For your viewing pleasure today I humbly submit Revell's 1/48 F-86D Sabre Dog. 512th FIS,405th FIW Sembach AB Germany 1956. F-86D-NA, 52-10110 Col. M.J. Quirk CO. Corrected historical information thanks to Sabrejet. This was pretty much OOB with the exception of a panel in front of the instruments to add Counter weights to keep from being a tail sitter. AlcladII in various shades for the bare metal effect and an acrylic wash to highlight the panel lines. One noticeable correction I did make, again thanks to sabrejet was to add the fighters crew cheif back on the canopy where it belongs. THe kit supplied decals had the pilots name on both sides. I scanned the decals in and substituted the names then printed out on decal paper. Not a big deal for tying to make it accurate, besides it makes up for using the wrong intakes on the fuselage..OOPS... A face only a Mother could love It's been an enjoyable little romp. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Here's the link to the build. All comments, critiques and observations welcome. So until next time ,stay tuned for more, same bat time, same bat channel.
  3. Hi! As there are several F-86 Sabre builds here at Britmodeller I think I have to contribute as well. At least try to... First one up is the old 1/72 scale Airfix F-86D Sabre from 1975. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-02061-1-north-american-f-86d-sabre--263279 I've built that kit back then some time around 1976 and still have good memories of it. For some reason I painted it white. It looked at least "white' on the box and it looked so good with the blue decals and white stars. Airfix must have done an rather good job measuring the F-86D as this kit actually shapewise goes rather well with the later F-86D kits from Hasegawa and the F-86L from Special Hobby. It looks simple but looking at this kit closer one discovers that the Airfix crew actually made some serious work with this kit and the fit is rather nice. I've got this kit a year ago from "Hobbybokhandeln". A "second hand modell shop" in Stockholm, Sweden. Not long time after that I've found one Special Hobby F-86L and when a member of IPMS Stockholm sold an Hasegawa F-86D I've got the third "wanted kit". This made it possible to make an interesting "comparison build". As one can see I have slowly started the Airfix build. And one of the things that can be noticed is the rather small F-86F like "Jet Pipe Nozzle". Compared with the same parts from the Hasegawa and Special Hobby kits I took a "styrene pipe" (a 10 mm Evergreen plasticard tube), and inserted it into my "drilling machine" to adjust it a little shapeways and glued it on the old "bulkhead nozzle". The resultat is as you can se the new nozzle with the old "reversed" inside the fuselage. One can also see the intake duct and the rather "deep" cockpit. Next photo showing the cockpits from Airfix (with the intake duct), the Hasegawa kit (middle) and the Special Hobby kit. There are of course decals for the Hasegawa cockpit. And the Special Hobby kit has some very nice photoetched parts for the cockpit, the ejection seat and the rest of the aircraft. Among those parts countless small vortex generators fort the tail and horizontal stabilazers. And the three kits "side by side", ok "above and under". From top to bottom - Special Hobby, Hasegawa and Airfix... Cheers / André
  4. Wondering if anyone can tell me how easy (or difficult as the case may be) it would be to convert the Hasegawa 1/72 F-86D Sabre Dog into an F-86K?
  5. I saw this scheme on a 1/48 build on another forum and was really taken with it. This is the 1/72 Hasegawa kit, a really straightforward and enjoyable kit.
