  1. Old Viper Tester

    F-16A 78-0064

78-0064 of the F-16 Combined Test Force, 6510th Test Wing, Air Force Flight Test Center. Digital Electronic Engine Control testing, February 1983 August 1983 Penguin integration testing, 1987. Non-standard location of the AFFTC shield on the tail where the AF Systems Command shield should be located. No longer a test jet and relegated to test support with the 6512th Test Squadron, November 1991. September 1992, AF Systems Command is no more and the AFFTC is now part of AF Materiel Command, hence the change in tail shield. Thanks for looking, Sven

    Test Support Viper - 78-0007

Another from the 6512th Test Squadron Bozo Fleet Over the then new Edwards control tower Thanks for looking, Sven

    F-16A 75-0746

May 1985: Just a little off the beaten path... a USAF F-16 with a parabrake housing. 75-0746 was a Full-Scale Development airframe built to the original Norwegian AF specification - hence the tail fairing. It was also used for a lot of structures testing, so the airframe took a beating. All of those g's took their toll on the airframe. They were always replacing panels and patching fuel leaks. Gotta love the putty job on the back. They are tough to see, but there are wedge shaped blocks on top of the noses of the external tanks with wiring running back into the pylons - those are accelerometer housings used to measure the frequency and amplitude of the tank motion (wing deformation) during maneuvers. Refueling from NKC-135E, s/n 55-3135 April 1983, testing Penguins Things under wings: In 1983, '746 was used to evaluate what was called an MPP (Your guess what it stood for is as good as mine). The MPP was an attempt to increase the weapons carriage of the F-16. The MPP didn't catch on. Don't know what this suspension unit was, but it may have been a competitor with the MPP. Looks like an ancestor of the BRU-61 Small Diameter Bomb rack. Thanks for looking, Sven

    Test Support Viper: 81-0688

Shortly after arrival at Edwards with the 6516th Test Squadron, February 1990. Moved to the 6512th TS, Test Ops, as a dedicated test support jet, October 1991. Someone forgot the Flight Test Center tail band. On static display October 1992, Systems Command is no more and the AF Materiel Command shield is now on the tail. Safety chase training mission, December 1992. That's the AF Flight Test Center shield behind the canopy on this side. The 6510th Test Wing shield is on the opposite side. Over the Sierra Nevada foothills. Over the Boron mines, a prominent rejoin landmark just north of Edwards. He's now on our wing. Aero-braking on Runway 22 Hasegawa released a 1/72nd scale F-16B in these markings back in 1999, but I don't think anyone else has bothered with it. I think I read somewhere that all of the white/red test support Vipers are now gone. '688 went to AMARC in 1995 according to Baugher. Thanks for looking, Sven

    Little Precious

F-16A, USAF s/n 79-0402, was operated by the Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC) at Hill AFB in the 1980s. The aircraft wore the typical OO-ALC white and red scheme. It also carried the name 'Little Precious'. But first, she was the subject of climatic testing in the McKinley Hangar at Eglin AFB. McKinley is a very large hangar fitted out with equipment to simulate extreme weather conditions to evaluate how an aircraft and its systems hold up in various climates. Here she is, before getting her red high-conspicuity markings in the hangar. View from the hangar's observation station... That trunking on the exhaust nozzle is for running the engine during the evaluation, running the exhaust to the outside. And viewed from the hangar floor. That's freezing fog with snow on the floor... As operated by OO-ALC... Some details... OO-ALC paint shop marking on right side beneath the horizontal tail Thanks for looking, Sven
  6. After buying a house and finishing the basement, and man cave, it is time to start a new model! I finished up an old one to get in the groove again, but this F-16A will be the first new one in almost 2 years! This is the kit I'll be building. image search host images Keeping this a mostly OOB build, only adding decals for the 174TFW in GW1. Oh, and some ordnance later on, there's nothing useful in the kit... free screen capture References in place... free screen capture free screen capture This doesn't look like an A model instrument panel... free screen capture After a short rummage in the stash I come up with this...much mo bettah... free screen capture That's it so far... Ken
  7. Have had this in the stash for 5 years now and it needs to be built! The Hasegawa 1/32nd General Dynamics F-16A (Kit #S20) which will be built OOB and in the mid 70's era 'Demonstrator' red/white/blue colour scheme, aircraft serial 75-0745. Michael
  8. My third completed build this year, the 1/48th Eduard F-16A 'Top Falcon' which is based upon the Kinetic kit. Fought me every step of the way with a final sting at the last second! On the plus side a number of new things for me and the final result should look good firmly tucked away in a corner of the display cabinet So, on to the snapshots... Have to admit I really struggled with the Kinetic kit, somehow I managed to just slightly 'twist' the fuselage parts and so the main parts didn't fit properly and I had to use filler on the strakes. I also struggled with the Eduard resin engine exhaust assembly and in the end reverted back to the original kit parts. On the plus side the kit parts are beautifully detailed and if you can use all the Eduard parts the end result should be superb. Unfortunately I got so frustrated it went on to the shelf-of-doom and a book fell on it, breaking off much of the undercarriage. Was this the end...? Now, at some point soon I want to build some RAF V-bombers in gloss white. I know many here have had much success with Halfords Appliance White so I gave it a try. I was disappointed with the first application but I got the hang of it second time and I am very pleased with the final result. All other colours are either Vallejo or Mig acrylics applied by brush, the red areas have been sealed with Klear, and again I am really pleased with the results. The kit decals were superb, allowing me to build F-16A 81-0688 operated by the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB. The cockpit was a joy to work on and even though I didn't use all the Eduard etch it looks far more detailed that I normally aspire to. The resin seat had no less that 41 pieces of etch most of which were too small for my tweezers! However I did add most of the seat belts and the 'remove before flight' banner and I am really pleased with the result. The final sting in the tail? All I had to add was the HUD glass. Add Clearfix, hold with tweezers and ... PING! Eaten by the carpet monster! So have added something else but it isn't right. Oh well... Overall I am pleased with the final result, learned a lot and would try another one. And a personal touch, back to October 1993 at the Edwards AFB 'Open House' and my photo of 81-0688 in the static display Michael
  9. Kinetic is to release a new (revised?) boxing from it's Fighting Falcon, the 1/48th Lockheed-Martin F-16A/B Fighting Falcon RoCAF 70th Tiger Wing (Hualien AB) - ref.48055 Source: https://www.facebook.com/Kineticmodel/photos/a.150625411771245.1073741825.129238860576567/529182953915487/?type=3&theater Box art + decals http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=KI-K48055 Or repackaging of ref.48011 with new decals? F-16AM "Solo Display Team 2009" KLU - Which 1/48 kit?

What's the best kit to use if I want to build this aircraft (http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/SY48055). According to F-16.net, J-015 is an F-16A block 20 MLU. The Kinetic F-16A http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/K48036 seems to be the closest match. Can I build it out the box from this kit? I notice the Syhart decals recommend a Dutch MLU resin update set (PWMP) - do I need this? Grateful for any advice. Thanks, Andrew
