Hello all, came across BRITMODELLER.COM in a web search for info about a F-105D Mr Toad and here I am!
You can see by my ID that I am a Vietnam Vet and back in the day, gung-ho as weapons loader team member during '67 at Korat RTAFB Thailand and a member of the 469th TFS (Tactical Fighter Squadron), of couse loading Mr Toad.
Late '67 got to meet a crew chief for Mr Toad (fellow Pennsylvanian) and we have been close friends since...
The Mr Toad logo later had the TOAD, I have 'never' been able to produce a sastisfactory pic for my Hobby Master F-105D to add the graphic with the lettering...
RidgeRunner had a most complete article on Mr Toad and well done, I must say!
I will be taking off the de-nort extensions off the front bombs, personally in my year never did load those. Mainly bombs - 500lb high drags, 750s, 1000/2000/3000 lbs, along with Bullpup missiles (the nose cone had a manufacturing tag of Old Forge PA, a town about 10 miles from where I am from).. quite a surprise for a bomb loader.
Turned 21 years old, then within the week was off to my 1st Tour to Vietnam. Was originally slotted for Ton Son Knut AB Saigon, after a month was reassigned to Korat Thailand.
'68 Re-Enlisted for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and 2nd Tour back to Vietnam at Bien Hoa AFB, about 17 miles north of Saigon. 3rd Tour I was sent to Da Nang (Rocket City) up north after Vietnamization was taking place, duties were turned-over to our Vietnamese counterparts.
This is a wonderful site, thank you for 'accepting'!
