  1. I started these last year as part of the STGB Memorial Build for fellow Britmodeller Merv Milliken (Spike7451). I wanted to try and represent each nation that operates the Tornado and was keen to include an F.3 example. I scratch built some of the missing details such as the Secondary Heat Exchanger intake and other bits relevant to the aircraft modelled. Decals for the Luftwaffe ECR and the RAF F.3 are from the kits with some additional stencilling from a Hannants Xtradecal sheet. The Italian and Saudi examples came from Mark1's book of twelve Tornados I didn't get them over the line for that GB, so when the KUTA VIII GB came along at the back end of the year I decided that I would try to complete them for that. That GB finished a couple of weeks ago and here are the finished models. Tornado ECR 2011 Tigermeet - Revell 1/144 Tornado F.3 RAF 56 R Squadron (Firebirds) - Dragon 1/144 Tornado ECR Italian Air Force - Revell 1/144 Tornado IDS Royal Saudi Air Force - Revell 1/144 And finally a shot of all four together I had a lot of fun putting these together and I'm sure that there are lots of things that Merv would have pointed out had he still been with us, but I am pleased with the way they turned out. Apologies to those who followed these builds for repeating the photos here, but I wanted to share my efforts with the people who may not venture to the GB pages. Thanks for looking in. 2. Hi All, I've always been fascinated by the X-15 and to think that in the decade after WW2 it was flying at over 4,000 mph is still staggering. I picked up this kit from Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds a while ago and after battling with an Eduard Dora recently this was just the sort of quick build I needed. The whole thing took three days, including making the base out of black acrylic and brass rod. The kit itself is easy to build although I did find a couple of areas that needed work, including a scratched pitot as the kit part was much too big. The Cartograph decals settle nicely with a bit of effort although the fact that each letter in the "USAF" decals is separate did make me swear gently. Not so gently, actually. I put some Milliput in the fuselage to take the brass rod and used a section of rod to make the hole so it's a good, snug fit and that allows me to leave it unglued so I can spin the model on the stand to change the attitude. I do think that the ultimate hotrod aeroplane needs to be seen as the Gods of Flight intended. I finished the kit with Tamiya black acrylic and after starting to mask a few panels to use different shades of black I quickly realised that a scribble with very thinned paint with a dab of grey would be better to simulate the worn look of busy aircraft. Unfortunately a lot of the effect has been lost under Klear and a final coat of Xtracrylix satin varnish but I'm not too unhappy. It still makes for a fun little desktop toy. On to the pictures and I hope you enjoy. I've included my pocket money for the purposes of scale. Please feel free to comment and offer constructive criticism.
