  1. Should I use it and if so how? If I shouldn't use it what should I use instead? Or can I just use warm water? Lots of conflicting advice and opinions out there on YouTube and other modelling sites. Bagman
  2. Hey, I was looking at this Ascensio Pegas decals for a 767-300ER: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/978207-ascensio-763-010-boeing-767-300er-pegas Can anyone shed some light on what the lower, white on grey parts are? Are these painting masks, white decals? Also, does anyone have experience with these decals? One can read some mixed reviews but these are also rather old so things might have changed in the meantime. While at it, how easy/hard would it be to convert a Revell / Zvezda 767-300 into an ER? Many-many thanks in advance! Cristian
  3. Greetings, I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a slight decal problem for a Su-33... On the picture below, just aft of the boarding ladder, there is some sort of whale (?) painted above the tiny red stars. I am working on a Su-33 model right now and would love to represent it as a "veteran" of Syrian sorties - particularly bort n. red 84 and 85 have a lot of stars - but I cannot find a decal sheet in 1/72nd with a usable black-white whale (or whatever that thing is) in it... I was even thinking of brush painting it myself, but the shape is rather complex.. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

    Decal solution?

Is there anything out there stronger than Solvaset? And...is it my imagination or is Solvaset not as strong as it used to be?
  5. Hello Paul, i would like to commision this decal sheet for my 1/32nd Tornado. I have many pictures of the aircraft and its tail if they are needed. Best regards, Rob
  6. Hi all, Having made a number of decals on my trusty HP 6000 I am now wondering if there is a better way. I current print on a clear decal sheet and then "fix" with a cost or two of enamel mattcote (Humbrol). Is there a better product to use? All advice really appreciated. Thanks. Martin

  9. Wasn't sure where to chuck this query so mods feel free to move it if you need to. I was reading through someone's thread a few weeks ago that happened to have a very good explanation of how to use kit decals as a guide to make masking templates for painting. I thought this was very useful and intended to note how it was done.....but I didn't......and now I cannot remember who or where the post was! Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on how to go about this? I'm looking to create templates for the black exhaust areas and fuselage handhold area's on the sides of my Seaking HC.4 rather than using the decals provided in the kit. I'd be very grateful for any assistance with this, I'm sure it's pretty straight forward but me brain won't engage at the moment! Rgds, Eng

  11. Made a rookie mistake last night .... caught an unsealed decal with masking tape and ripped the decal. I've managed to fix it back in place so it can't be seen but I was kicking myself afterwards You live and learn as they say Just thought I'd vent incase anyone else wants to share any similar stories / mistakes
  12. Hi I have no idea why this happened. I was trying to finish a model I started to years ago and make some reasonable finish on it applying all I have learned. 1. painted with a combination of Tamiya and Mr Hobby 2. sprayed a few coats of Future 3, Applied decals. Used Microset/sol and tried some humbrol decal fix 4 All looking good! 5. All cured over night at various stages 6. This morning decals had faded and parts of the model was very milky. I thought perhaps a dusting of Humbrol 49 Matt Varnish was not enough and decided to spray a bit more OOPS We live ....now its time to LEARN. I have always started a project but nver got this far to completion. I thought here goes my first complete model (despite its many faults) I have some Hannants Flat Varnish (white) which they say dilute with 10%-15% water - SHOULD I HAVE USED THAT? AND WHAT CAUSED THE ABOVE DISASTER.... sorry for the caps...a bit devastated at the moment
  13. Fellow Followers of Airfix, I was just wondering if Airfix's decal choices for their 2014 range have been published anywhere? Catalogue perhaps? If I recall correctly, I did read somewhere that the 1/48 Spitfire Vb will have 249 Squadron (Malta based) decals, however not quite sure what the others may include. I suppose we can assume - Hurricanes - 85 sqd (Series 1) & 615 sqd (Starter Set) Tiger Moths - as per box art (x3) Lancaster - 35 sqd (FE) and 57 sqd Lightning F2A - 92 sqd (Starter set) Any additional information would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers .. Dave
  14. Hi folks, I've a problem with my Javelin.upper wing roundels. The protruding bits (sorry for the use of extremely advanced technical terms) just upwind from the vortex generators, the roundel decals and Gunze decal softener aren't exactly friendly to each other: Has anybody encountered this problem? And found a solution? What paint could I use for masking the holes? I have access to Gunze, Humbrol and Tamiya. TIA, Sebastien
