Not Will Robinson, but rather Marta Kristen who played Judy Robinson the eldest of the siblings in Lost in Space. - The B9 Robot is the Polar Lights kit which in turn was back engineered version of the Aurora 1960s kit. - The base and Marta Kristen figure is from CultTVman made by Jimmy Flinstone, I believe it was originally a show special - but I note it is still available direct from Jimmy Flinstones's website - The B9 Robot was upgraded with a resin accurising kit that replaced the robot's arms, neck and seamless 'bubble' and is canon to the filiming prop rather than the kit part which is oversized and has avery nasty and visible seam. I can't recall the manufacturer but I obtained it from CultTVman. - Mechalabs lighting kit. - Paints used, the Robot a combination of Tamyia TS and Humbrol aerosols and Vallejo to pick up the details such as lights. -------------------------- This is a long stalled build, I found the original reciept from Comet Miniatrures in the B9 Robot box and that dates August 2010, although the build itself is not that old. I didn't start it until had the all the add on parts, so at a guess I started it 2/3 years after that. I only got as far as as preparing and painting the base, cleaning up and assembling the Marta Kristen figure (all two parts of it!) and assembling the robots legs. I do recall the robots lower half requiring significant cleaning up to to give a nice rubberised finish and there the build lain until four weeks ago when I decided to pick up the cudgel again. There is a whole of reference pictures on the World wide wide net and it is clear during the 3/4 year run of the series the finish and detail to the robot changed a lot and I couldn't find a definitive colour scheme. Also be careful there is what seems to be a mini industry in building full size replica robots which again vary from the original. I painted the robot up varying shades of dark metalic silver/aluminuim colours, the rubberised finished was Linn grey. Most of the robot was built and painted in sub-assemblies using Micro Krystal Klear as an adhesive so as not adversely affect the finshed surfaces. I have never painted a figure before, so I watched a few tutorials on You Tube, its all common sense really although it dark as the base colour then working back blending as one goes along. The Marta figure is a little featureless compared to those on the tutorials I watched, but I got there in the end. The hair was the most troublesome part it took an absolute age to get to a point I was satisfied with it, it was a drak green at one stage! But a continual round of wash and highlights I got there in the end. It got to the point where I was obsessed observing blonde haired women including Sophie Rainworth on the BBC news so I could get a feel for shade and light. Other than the primer coat the figure was all hand painted with Vallejo paints, I found it worked well as long as it was thinned well down and multiple coats applied. I installed the Mechalabs lighting kit, however, when I started the build eons ago I didn't make any provision for feeding the wiring through the base and a mount for the bulky 9v battery, maybe one day! There are still parts of the model I wince at and cringe at but on the whole I'm happy with the finished product. Pros The B9 Robot kit is relatively simple, It is engineered so it is possible to apply the liquid cement to the inside surface avoiding any blemishes on the exterior surfaces a lot of which have metalic finishes. The Jimmy Flinstone base and figure once cleaned up is very good. Cons The robot figure is engineered in such a manner it becomes quite a masking task particulary below the waist where effectively it is one piece, it felt like I used a years worth of Tamyia tape an blu tack to get a good realistic finish. The robot is shot from ABS styrene and really only responds to copious amounts of Plastic Weld, but as mentioned above it can be applied to the inner surfaces and once softened a good seamless join can be achieved. The Marta Kristen figure is a little cumbesome to paint. So, here goes. ------------ ----------- Here are some reference images. Tommo.
