In pains and with great self-denial I FINALLY finished the project "CC-129 RESCUE". I started the model probably about three years ago and.... I got stuck. I do not remember what caused it to soar into a corner of the studio, but every few months like a throwback it returned to the workshop. All in all, the result was a heavily repaired combination layout 😉 The base is the old Airfix kit, the engine covers, chassis bay sections and air intakes with filters are from the new DC-3 Airfix and the engines are from Quickboost. From the original decals only the inscriptions "RESCUE" survived (to this day I regret, but I do not have access to a plotter to paint them), I made up the drip windows, some antennas, some others details - all based on photos of a particular copy. The model was not immune to mistakes, but on the other hand, this is my first project of this size, and one of the things I will remember is not to paint this size of models with a nozzle of 0.2 (or maybe 0.15... ?) Hi, guys! I’m going to build a 1/48 C-47 in Finnish Air Force livery. The Trumpeter kit is very nice. Unfortunately, Eduard photoetched to detail the interior is not discontinued and out of stock in all the shops I visited. I already found some pictures of the C-47 used by the Finnish Air Force. Specifically, from aircraft with fuselage code DO-4 to DO-12. I have not found pictures of the DO-1 to DO-3 aircraft. I had no preferences for any specific airplane until I found the “Soumen Ilmailumuseot” blog where you can see the amazing restoration work that people are doing on CD-47 DO-5 (https://www.ilmailumuseot.fi/blogi/?k=C-47). This plane was uses for training paratroopers. Could be good to build DO-5… But I have some questions that I really appreciate if someone could answer. 1. Interior color of FiAF C-47 (cockpit and cargo bay). Interior green? In https://www.ilmailumuseot.fi/blogi/?k=C-47 you can see original parts in interior green color. But some of the FiAF C-47 were previously used as passenger transport. What color would the interior be? You can find a good picture in https://avia-dejavu.net/photo%20DO-7.htm where you can see the interior of the cargo door in grey color. 2. Do all FiAF C-47s have the tail antenna cover (sorry if it is not an antenna…) that you can see in the picture below (FiAF DO-4)? The second picture is the DO-5 when it was parked at Utti forest. Hello guys, Just bought the Italeri Dakota Mk.III, and I need your help regarding details about the fit of the kit. I've read some build reviews in here, stating the kit had poor fit in some areas. I'll be picking mine next Wednesday, and I'd like to see the kit unpainted, showing the troublesome areas. P.D: The Airfix new tool kit was unavailable. Thank you all! -
Ready for inspection is my 1:72 Italeri Dakota Mk.III, this is the first time I have built a larger aircraft, and I hope it will give me confidence to tackle the Halifax and Lancaster which are currently tucked up in my stash. So to the build, the kit went together pretty well, the fuselage halves are a bit of a pain to line up, but otherwise the kit required only a little amount of filler (which is always a bonus). The underside is brush painted, and the olive drab from a trusty rattle can (thanks to my lovely other half!). I should say I got an airbrush for my birthday and am growing in confidence with it, so hopefully my next build will be painted that way. Anyway back to the Dak, the decals caused me to sweat a little (and have a few beers!), but with the help of micro set, they soon were in place. I'm pretty happy with my first 'big' build, and more importantly I have discovered new respect, and love for the handsome looking aircraft. Thanks, Michelle.

Just completed these for the Colourful Dakotas GB over at UAMF - the Italeri kit as a post-war Swissair machine and the new Airfix kit as an Air Atlantique example. Not too keen on the Airfix kit - had some unexpected issues with fit, but it does look nice now that it's finished. Interior was re-arranged from the Airfix kit to better represent the layout, with aded seats from the ESCI kit: IMG_0167 by Paul Bradley, on Flickr Back in July 1985, I made my first and to date only flight in the classic Douglas DC-3, and treated my brother to his first ever flight for his birthday. I have a friend who is building the old Monogram 1/48 DC-3 that comes with Eastern Airlines colors. He's not satisfied the color callouts in the instructions are correct and has searched the internet to see if he could find reference photos. He came up empty handed, as I did when I searched. Knowing the Britmodeller has a wealth of experts, I thought I'd see if the answer(s) might be found here. Many thanks to all for assistance.

Nowadays it is common practice for Airlines to paint one of their Aircraft in a so called "Retro Look" to commemorate former successful times. In 1952 the Scandinavian Airlines System, short SAS, went another way. They painted one of their Aircraft, in this case a DC-3, in a future livery, . But when the new paint Job was shown to the bosses, they were not amused. They did not like it at all and ordered to repaint the Douglas immediately! As Michael J. Fox said in "Back to the Future, part 1": You guys are not ready for that, but your kids are gonna love it! So this Aircraft never flew in this beautiful livery, what a pity! -
What is the accurate size of Twin Wasp engine cowl in 1/72? This question came up at IPMS Stockholm... Esci DC-3 18,5 mm Italeri DC-3 19 mm A-model Li-2 19 mm Marivox B 17 19,4 mm Marivox J 22 17 mm Airfix Catalina 19,2 mm Academy Catalina 17 mm Quickboost Catalina 16,2 mm It differs 3.2 mm and makes more than one builder wondering... I've built a small squadron of the of the old Minicraft DC-3's over the years, but this was my first of the newer Roden offering. I must say, it's a lovely kit, correcting several of the former kit's more notable weaknesses, such as the short fin/rudder height and the engine spacing. Mods for the RCAF version were minimal, chiefly cutting off the tail cone of the civil version (which Roden left on this C-47 issue) and slight alterations to the antenna layout. Paints were Tamiya acrylics on the 'topside' and MM grey acrylic primer on the undersides. I used a little thinned enamel wash to take the 'toy' sheen off the NM paint job and to give it a bit of a 'lived in' look, but kept weathering to a minimum: from the photographs available, it looks like the proud crews kept these birds pretty 'tidy' throughout their service lives. This was also my first go at the lovely decals from Leading Edge, who specialize in Canadian subjects. The decals themselves were nearly ten years old (though very carefully stored), but other than being a little 'stiff' here and there, performed beautifully. No signs of cracking or splitting, nice deep color, and they settled down well with minimal setting solution needed. A quick and most enjoyable build.- 15 replies

On a recent trip to one of my local model/toy shops, I came across Italeri 's 1:72 Dakota Mk.III. I had recently watched a programme about the RAF's role during D day, so was instantly drawn to this kit. I have to admit however, that I had never been that keen on the Dakota. That was until, I had the luck of witnessing one display at Abingdon airshow with my family. Having seen the aircraft in action, I was very impressed, and realised it deserved a lot of respect. So, wanting to build a slightly larger aircraft (in prep for the Lancaster and Halifax in my stash) I am about to begin the Dakota. On opening the box I was greeted by a very impressive decal sheet (the box doesn't lie....it is pretty super!) There are 3 grey plastic sprues, all with a lot of detailing, and a small clear sprue. There seems to be minimal flash and it all looks pretty good (if rather big!😬). I am planning to use the paint scheme of 233 squadron of the RAF, which was based in Swindon between 1944/1945. I am a brush painter, the body of this aircraft is rather large however, so I will be relying on the trusty rattle can to get me through. So here goes, my first BIG build!!!

Greetings all, Does anyone know what type of propellers where used on the 'original' civil DC-3's equipped with Wright Cyclone R-1820 engines? Although I'm sure they are not correct, however to my eyes, the prop and spinner that comes with the 1/72 Matchbox Lysander look quite similar. I have posted a separate 'wants' post for a spare prop here if anyone has one - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234966944-matchbox-172-lysander-prop-spinner-any-condition/ Failing that, does anyone know of any aftermarket props that are available in 1/72 scale. Douglas DC-3, Trans World Airline. 1:144 Roden. This aircraft needs no introduction! It is the new Roden kit in 1:144 and a lovely little kit it is too. No issues with construction, it fits together beautifully. The decals are a big improvement over previous Roden offerings, but still need to be handled carefully. Finish is Alclad with Citadel silver for the control surfaces. We could do with a few aftermarket decal sheets for this one, I'll certainly build more, it is a great little kit and a huge improvement over the Minicraft offering. It isn't very big at all, with the modellers standard reference point, a jar of Tamiya paint; And finally, the 'with something else' picture. It could only be the Fly Models DC-9-10 with Draw Decals TWA markings. Thanks for looking, John

This Dakota is actually KP208, a C-47B built in 1946, this was one of the last two to serve with the RAF in 1970. It had been on display at the Airborne Forces Museum at Browning Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire until the museum closed in December 2007. It is now at Merville Barracks in Colchester. KP208 represents KG374, a D-Day veteran that was shot down during Operation Market Garden at Arnhem on September 19, 1944. The pilot, Flt Lt David Lord, won a posthumous Victoria Cross - KG374 was hit twice by anti-aircraft fire with one engine on fire. Lord managed to drop most of his supplies on the drop run, but two containers remained. Despite the damage to his aircraft, Lord made a second run before ordering his crew to bale out. A few seconds later the Dakota crashed before Lord could escape. The Dakota fund is currently trying to fully restore this aircraft, if anyone feels they can help pls contact me for details. many thanks to Ruari for these pictures. Exterior Shots;

Hello! I'm hoping this is the correct place for this post because there isn't a section that I thought worked better but never mind. I am building Airfix's C-47 as a present for my great uncle who jumped out of them during his time serving in the SAS in Malaya and Borneo but I need some help! I have no idea as to what paint scheme the dakotas were in when operated by the SAS during the conflicts in Malaya and Borneo, would anybody on here happen to know? I've done lots of searching in books and on the internet but to no avail. Thank you very much, Ben.

During the WWII the Swedish airline ABA continued its international flights with planes painted in striking orange.Björn Bäcklund has built, rescribed, slightly modified, cut his own masks and used a lot of orange color on a Monogram DC-3: The orange color and Swedish markings didn't keep the plane from being shot down in 1943.
