  1. Gentlemen Assistance needed Can anyone point me in the direction of the relevant colours for this beast. Using the Airfix kit which states M22(?) RAF Blue-Grey. Offered up Humbrol 79 & 96, followed by AKAN.73066( Bit Dark) & 73008( To Blue). Help
  2. Did the Defiant have the black wing and/or Sky fuselage band in May 1940? It seems not. Despite RAF fighters needing the bottom half black plus the Sky Type S fuselage band, and despite several colour profiles that show them with either, I haven't found a single photo, not from 1939, not from 1940. I did find photos of crashed Defiants that can definitively be placed in May 1940, and these don't show a fuselage band and don't show a black underside of the fuselage, but no details of the underside of the wing is visible. Should we agree that in May 1940 the Defiant used neither fuselage band nor black undersides? Or does someone here perhaps have that rare photo we've all been looking for, showing both? The next question would be: why didn't the Defiant carry the regulation scheme? Cheers.
  3. Hi everyone. I have recently started building the Heinkel He 111 H6 by Airfix, and have now reached the stage to paint the camouflage pattern. I recently watched the film 'Dunkirk', and the colours on the Heinkel there look really nice to me, so googled it and found this image: I know a scale model was used in filming, and i dug up these images as well, which may give a better view: Can someone please have a rough guess at what these colours are? I would prefer answers in the revell email colour spectrum, as i mostly paint in with these, but humbrol would be fine too. I have done a little research, and i think people say the closest equivalents are RLM 70 and RLM 71, but different paint converters give different conversions, and im finding it hard to decode what is the closest colours to RLM 70 and 71. For example, The Ultimate Model Paint Conversion Chart puts RLM 70 as greenish grey matt (67) and RLM 71 as bronze green matt (65) (both in revell colours), but others say RLM 70 is black green (40), and RLM 71 is dark green (39). Do you think that those are close representations of the colour of the plane? If not, i would really appreciate it if you give your opinions on what is the closest approximation to these colours. Im not too bothered about historical accuracy and the like, so feel free to give complete opinions! Many thanks, TheCore2030
  4. I am just at the point of having to assemble and paint the turrets of my Mk.1 Sunderland so need to decide on the paint scheme. Italeri offer some nice alternatives, but I am minded to split the difference and wonder if anyone knows if my idea is in the realms of possibility. I prefer the brown/green/aluminium scheme but prefer the letters DA@G as a composition, that Italeri show in grey/green (yes I know those aren’t the official colour names) for Oban 1941. According to Coastal Command 1939-45 the famous photo of DA@G was taken in Summer 1940 so I wonder if it would still have been in brown/green then? Any observations welcomed, even if I end up following my own logic in the end! Cheers Will
  5. Hi all I don't model with an overriding theme other than buying & making things I quite like the look of (with a strong bias toward good value) I was musing what to build next and was thinking of doing a pair of Thunderbolts and hauled out the two I have as part of bigger sets and Havibg done so I've now realised the box art in the Gabreski set is a nonsense (it should be green & grey with red nose/tail v.similar to the Revell boxing) and both planes only have one decal option Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent priced decal sheet (I only need/want to change one of them) or a partial sheet they'd be willing to sell/swap that'd do? I'm not wildly fussy but it seems a shame to make two nearly the same planes alongside each other (to me anyway - I've seen some amazing work on multiple variations on a theme but I don't think that's for me)
  6. In the 1960s (sorry I cant be more specific on the timeframe) my Grandfather was based in Singapore at Tengah with 60 Squadron RAF. He was a photographer and used to fly in the Vampire T.11 to take photos the planes in formation. For Christmas Id like to present him with a diorama with a Vampire and T.11 side by side. I wonder if anyone can give me an idea of what colour scheme to paint the T11? Would it have had the day-glo orange scheme or the yellow bands? I have tried to find this out but have not found any photographs from Singapore in this time period of a T11, only normal Vampires. A photograph or information on this would be great. Im not looking for 100% accuracy so any pointers, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi Guys I need some help with the colour scheme that Aermacchi used on the factory built MB326 (Impala), it consisted of four colours in avery intricate pattern, these colours were: Tan Colour, Dark Green, Olive drab and Grey I would appreciate the FS numbers or eqvilant if you happen to know them. If not the Air International December 1982 issue has this profile on page 300 (a scan of the article would help), fourth from the top as it seemed that the Brazilian AF MB326's were also painted in this colour/scheme. Any help would be appreciated Regards William [email protected]
  8. After many, many years, I have returned to modelling, and, having learnt the art of patience, do not want to make a complete bottom of my models like I used to(!) My first build will be a Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk22/24, and I will be airbrushing for the first time. I have read reviews concerning Lifecolor acrylic paints and would like to give them a try. However, I am having a few problems deciding on certain colours and I was hoping some one might be able to help. Most of the Revell colours listed in the instructions I can source as Lifecolor paints using one of the on line comparisons that are out there. However, there are a couple of blends that may have an equivalent Lifecolor match without having to do any mixing. The blends in question are: Revell Kit ID G, 40% matt black 8, 40% granite grey matt, and 20% aluminium metallic 99 Revell Kit ID H, 75% leather brown matt 84, 25% aluminium metallic 99 Revell Kit ID J, 33% yellow matt 15, 33% seagreen matt 48, and 34% stone grey matt 75 Revell Kit ID N, 60% blue matt 56, 40% mouse grey matt 47 If anyone has built this kit using Lifecolor paints I would be very interested in how you got on, and any advice on colour schemes in general for this build would be most gratefully received. Thanks in advance, Chris
