  1. Hi there from St Catharines Ontario, along the southern shore of Lake Ontario in Canada. I have been a big fan of Britmodeller for a number of years and enjoyed the variety of kits and fantastic workmanship demonstrated. My main areas of interest of classic aircraft kits from the 60's and 70's and also scifi from the same era. Here is a Revell Spitfire Mk 1 1/32 scale the kit is from 1967. The decals were cracked so replaced them with Eagle Edition decals. The paint is Tamiya. If I was to do it again I I think I would use Humbrol. The fancy stand is from flight pose. Cheers
  2. Entry numero 1: The 1975 Spitfire Mk.Vb. All bits accounted for, except the decal sheet. Of course, the decal drawer will provide! 322 (Dutch) Sqn. RAF markings, the options are: W3127 / VL-P 'Soesterberg' AA967 / VL-A AB818 / VL-N BM354 / VL-A 'Malang'. BM515 / VL-P 'Prinses Beatrix' - this one has a reversed scheme as opposed to the standard DG/OG. A British fighter in RAF service, flown by Dutch pilots, modelled from a French kit.
  3. Hi everyone, World exclusive – the seldom seen super-rare box tops from some of the classic kits! Feast your eyes! Just kidding ….or am I…? Have we gone back to the future? Is this life imitating art imitating life? Nup, I am definitely kidding. Every now and then I feel inclined to have some fun with our hobby. I remember some of the boxings of Revell and Airfix kits from the 1980s, which featured built up models, often in odd settings or clearly done in a hurry. For example, I remember fondly the old Revell Fokker Triplane with the mis-placed undercarriage. So, I decided to have some fun and ‘create’ my own ‘retro box art’, reminiscent of these old kits. I have built a couple of these old Revell and Airfix kits more recently, so they were prime for my little experiment. What I also did was make sure that I picked models that were never actually released in these specific boxing styles. The Revell Sopwith Triplane and Nieuport 28 were never released in these ‘red border’ boxes, which tried to portray the aircraft in a ‘natural’ setting (sky or ground in the background). The Nieuport took inspiration from the old fokker triplane box: The Sopwith took inspiration from the old Fokker D.VII box: Likewise, the Airfix Albatros was never released on the blueprint box. These boxes were released during the “Palitoy” era, where Pailtoy owned Airfix. The models were unusually displayed on a blueprint. The blueprints, strangely, usually had nothing to do with the model itself. For example: All of the ‘trickery’ was done 1980’s style – in camera (no funky photoshopping here), using printed backgrounds: Anyways, just thought it might be something fun to do… I hope you don’t mind me indulging myself! Cheers as always, BC
  4. Good day all I feel rather embarrassed for asking this (so many people on so many forums who view obsessive Accuracy in model kits with disdain), but in the early 1980s I built the Imai kit of the Cutty Sark - this was the 1/120 scale version. I considered it to be a pretty accurate model and it captured the sleek lines of the original ship extremely well. I never considered the Slide Rule and Scale Drawing approach when building it, the kit was just a complete pleasure from start to finish and that is all I recall. Imai did actually include scale drawings from the Cutty Sark Museum, so I assumed that it "probably is accurate enough". Unfortunately the model did not survive the collective childhoods of my kids that were born soon after (my son at age 5 wanted to impress his little sister with the sheer distance he can throw a tennis ball - inside our home, I was not that impressed myself though to put it mildly). Anyway, I consoled myself that I will "one day" buy the larger Revell 1/96 scale kit of the same ship. ...So I did actually buy the Revell kit and it has been sitting in my stash for the past 15 years(!!!). Something that strikes me every time when I want to get going on the kit is that the hull seems somewhat "beamy" (too wide when considering the ratio of hull length vs. beam/width), compared to how I remember the Imai model. Many of the early Revell or Monogram kits - I think the Cutty Sark dates from the early 1960s - are somewhat known for dubious accuracy, dating from a time when plastic construction kits were more often than not thought of as toys. Do anyone have any comments in regard to hull shape accuracy of the Revell kit? I have tried to google around and there are lots of build progress discussions but seems like Accuracy in regards to these old Revell kits is a taboo subject. -- Jannie, almost ready for retirement and clearing my workbench...
  5. Finally I have finished something to show on here. For many decades this was the only model available of a T-10. Although it was not really available. Some of these kits went for a lot of money to collectors. Recetly I had the chance of getting one online for a relatively low. price. I decided to build it since I never had one of these Tamiya motorized tanks. And what can I say. The kids were pretty impressed as it went easily across the living room rug, pillows and even marbles. It even has an "infrared" light! Is this a good representation of the T-10? - No. It is a very early Tamiya model with very basic detail an more a toy. If it were ten years ago or so one could get a Tamiya JS 3 and try to make a decent model of it by using some parts of that (like the drive sprocket etc.). Buts since there are models like Meng's T-10, this would be kinda odd to do. Anyways, here it is:
  6. I dug up another classic kit recently. It is the first molding Airfix had created of the Ju 87. The kit was in production until 1976 I think. As I was looking online to do some research I found almost no proper images of the kit and its contents. So I thozght before I get some glue and paint on this badboy, I take some pictures for posterity. I hope that's interesting for you guys, either if you are a classic kit fan like me and enjoy having a look or you are not and need some affirmation in your decision to not spend money on this kit. As soon as it is built, more pics will follow. I used Revell's H-149 kit for some comparison shots. Especially the canopy and the wings are substantially smaller than Revell's offering.
  7. For your consideration the old Airfix Ju 52 in an early 1970's boxing. Built OOB in the recommended, ahistoric livery. My original plan was to use the original decals as well, but there was no way they could be made to snug to the textured surface of the plane. With a fair amount of softener they finally curled up and fell off. So decals from the spares box it was. Only the little Berlin bear badge could be used as it was placed on a flat surface. I originally had two kits of this Ju 52 and wanted to build the floatplane option too. But after finishing this one and finding the fit and appearance only so-so, I decided to sell the other kit. Counting the one Italeri Ju 52 I built as a kid in the early 90's, this was only my second Ju 52. Probably my last as well, since I never found that Wellblech-look so great. Maybe I get a Mach 2 Ju 352 in the future. Here the finished plane with it's original box (retail price at the time 9,50 Deutschmarks!)
  8. Hello fellow modellers. Been busy lately so I can come up with only one completed built. The He 111 by Matchbox a kit I was after for the longest time since the 111 has always been my favourite airplane and Matchbox my favourite brand! So I got an original 1975 Made in England three colour kit. Light brown, dark brown and light blue it looked so good I was almost tempted to build it unpainted. But then again I liked the decals provided as well so I went on to paint it as described on the box. I am happy with the result. Hope you enjoy. More is to come soon in 1/72 (Heller/Revell Ar 196, Revell Me 262, HobbyBoss Me 110).
  9. After many years of trying to dig up this particular kit I was lucky at a fleamarket a couple of weeks ago. I found it together wither with an old Airfix Ju 52 and He 177. The built was pretty easy except for masking the canopy, which I botched in some places and the fact I couldn't get all the crew members in. I guess I glued the flight deck in too high, so the dudes bonked their heads on the canopy. Anyways so it now only has the rear gunner preparing his MG while the pilots seat is still vacant and got some seatbelts made of tape. Hope you enjoy this Airfix veteran!
