  1. I’m jumping into this GB with what I hope should be a fairly quick pair of builds of Airfix’s 1/72 Vampire T11 kit: I’ve built one of these previously as the Swedish offering from the kit decals and it was a nice build, so I’ve high hopes for these. Both are going to be built in flight, with the plan being to have them mounted on rods (possibly acrylic) glued into the exhausts so I can pose them slightly nose up and banking, as that sounds more interesting to me than using an Airfix stand and having it in level flight. Aftermarket is being kept to a minimum with these, limited to some very nice Quickboost intakes: The only other aftermarket is the decals, for which I’m using an Xtradecal set for overseas Vampires. One is going to be finished in post-independence Rhodesian colours of dark earth & dark green over high speed silver, with the green & white roundels: The other is going to be in Chilean colours of a light sandy colour and a brown over a light blue: Looking at photos of the actual machines, there’s quite a variation in the colours used, so I’m just going to mix up something I like the look of that roughly ties in with some of the shots. Plastic cutting has started and I now have a stack of parts ready for some primer tonight: I’ve also removed all other relevant parts from the sprues (with the exceptions of the clear parts) and assembled the booms for both aircraft. 2. I'm slowly getting back to some kind of normalcy after several months of stress, outside pressures, etc...I have had to abandon some (but not all) of my GB commitments, and I would like to re-enter with this one... The Xtradecal set is really nice with several interesting options. As we have very few S. American entries, I'll throw my hat into the ring. I like the camo. Not your usual NMF, for sure. I'll get into it tonight, I hope. --John
  3. Hi there!! After introducing myself in the New Members section, this is my first post here. A bit of background...In Chile, the first flight from continental Chile to Easter Island was carried out by a PBY-5A Catalina baptized "Manu-Tara" of the Chilean Air Force. The flight, made on January 20, 1951 was commanded by captain Roberto Parragué Singer and lieutenants Jose Núñez Rousseau and Alfredo Aguilar. The flight departed from La Serena Air Base traveling for about 3,800 kilometers without landing, to land on a track prepared in advance in Mataveri. The kit is Academy´s PBY-5A, I had to do some minor modifications to the kit, like closing the huge gap in the nose turrent for the guns, the front undercarriage covers and the tie downs at each side of the nose, the rest is OOB. Numbers and national emblems were painted using masks. I used only one homemade decal for the "Manu-Tara" logo. Critics are welcome and I hope you like it. Cheers!
