  1. Zvezda is to release in 2020 a 1/72nd Lockheed C-130 Hercules kit Source: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235061306-zvezda-2020/ V.P.
  2. I'm working on a MultiCast's resin conversion (1/72) of the Italeri C-130 Hercules to an RCAF C-130J-30. The MultiCast set is great, beautifully molded, and the decals are world class. I made things more difficult for myself by using and ancient and incomplete Testors boxing of the AC-130a Spooky. This meant I had to fabricate all the missing doors, and fill the extra gun ports. step one was, after cutting the fuselage apart, tape the whole thing together, and find the appropriate nose weight. The easiest way was to wire fishing weights to the forward cargo bulkhead. I wasn't sure how much would be visible in the cockpit, so I scratchbuilt a lot of details, adding side consoles, belts, flight engineer center, crew rest bunks, etc ... The resin stretch fuselage sections were attached with 5 minute epoxy, all locating pins removed, tabs installed, and because the fuselage shells were to flexible, I had to add a lot of bracing. A wing spar (wooden dowl) was added to prevent wing droop, and the bending moment and cracking from such a long wing. The airframe was completely rescribed, then filled (milliput white), scribing touched up, primed and the prominent external doublers were added. The doublers were added with .010" x .040" strip, then .003" thick tape placed on either side a sanded down to flush. The engines were attached ( the inboard kit engine nacelles had to be trimmed back by 2.25 mm to align all the engines) and faired in with milliput, and rescribed. At this point, I've installed and masked the fuselage windows - but not the canopy, filled the fuselage seams and primed again, loosely fit the wings, tanks, and stabs to check everything. Still miles to go, but it looks like and airplane. Hope you like so far ... Colin

  4. Popped into the 'Heath on our way over to East Anglia, some regulars flying and an interesting visitor from Mildenhall. There was a Hercules doing circuits at Sculthorpe on the Friday morning too, must have passed over the Hawk & Owl Trust nature reserve there about ten times.
  5. I am working on a 1/72 C-130, and want to add the ALE-40 dispensers on the fuel tank pylons, as well as the dispensers on either side of the nose wheel well. I am not going to show the dispensers loaded, so I was looking for the dimension of the blanking plates. With those dimensions, I can "guesstimate" the dimensions of the rest of the assemblies. An online search didn't turn up anything helpful. Can anyone help? Larry lengesath(AT)cox(DOT)net
  6. Some images of s/n 87-0128 of the 6518th Test Squadron, Spec Ops Combined Test Force at Edwards AFB in 1991. I assume that's some kind of IR suppressor above and behind the engine exhaust. In the end they went with this, seen on 89--0510 which joined the CTF a year later Thanks for looking, Sven
  7. Pictures taken at Mojave Airport in 1982. This is a commercial sale C-130, no 382-4888, call no. CNA-OP for the Moroccan AF. I think it was at Mojave for the installation of the side-looking aperture radar (SLAR) pod. The pod looks much like the one carried by OV-1 Mohawks. Thanks for looking, Sven

  10. Just a few un-edited (apart from cropping) from the distant past .... 1. Little Rock AFB, Arkansas - May 1982 2. Jackson, Mississippi - October 1980 3. Mildenhall, UK - date unknown 4. Nashville, Tennessee - May 1982 5. Woodbridge, UK - February 1978 Martin
  11. I am working on a presentation model of a 1/72 C-130H. I hate the way the exhausts look on the Italeri kit. A search found that there are 2 aftermarket engine sets: from Engines & Things (72001) and from Flightpath UK (72103B). I have been unable to find pictures of either set. Does anybody have either set, and can supply a photo of the parts? I can get the Engines & Things T-56 set from Roll Models in the USA, but Engines & Things don't exactly have a reputation for "quality" products. Plus, Roll Models have a reputation for VERY slow service. Saying that, I am leaning towards getting the Flightpath UK set from Hannants. I would just like to see what I am ordering, before I spend the $$. Larry, in Florida
  12. Never really ventured into this part of the website before. I'm still relatively new here. Anyhoo, I took a few photos of a C-130K that I got to refuel a little while ago here in Winnipeg, Canada. I'll post a few photos here. The rest can be seen in my album up on Flickr. Just click on the photo to get there. 13. Hi all, Apologies for this being a (deliberately) open ended question: Does anyone know of any currently available decals (1/72) for an early C-130 in USAF service? I'm thinking something classic- either using a bog standard Italeri C-130E kit, or even backdating the same to an 'A' or 'B'. There really doesn't seem to be much out there- all the USAF schemes available seem to be grey machines from the 80s or 90s, and the earlier 60's schemes are usually Commonwealth... Failing that- does anyone know of a good scheme which would be easy enough to make up from spare decals/ generic sheets? Will
  14. Hercules C3 XV202 at RAF Cosford, pics thanks to Rich Ellis.
  15. I'm looking for a book on the subject more directed to the modeller, that is, highlighting clearly the differences between versions with drawings, dimensions, and so on... I am interested also in the newer "Super Hercules" versions, both the "normal" and the stretched ones. What did exactly changed in the later versions? Wing profile? Once more I am interested from a modeller's view, not in wiring systems. Good scale drawings would be a must. Does this book exist? Opinions, please! Carlos
  16. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/408138784952891025/ I'm assuming the picture will load without an Pinterest account. What's the story behind this then? I'm guessing the picture is real although my hunch is the guys were expecting it and it was staged. When was it? It must have been before 2006 (it's on a printed document I know was printed in 2006) though judging by the Landrover, portacabin, black and white image, plus grey underside cammo on the Hercules, my guess is early 1980s.
  17. Here are some from the Brize Norton photocall, only 200 places and I was very lucky to fill one of them! Very sad loss to our skies. I do have a few more to add, I will do once I have finished editing them. Hope they are of interest.
