  1. Messerschmitt BF 109 F-4 Eduard kit 1/72 Heinz Bär pilot, Comiso Sicily july 1942 Ettore
  2. I held a poll this 24 asking whether Argentina would have used the Bf 109F-4 or the Fw 190A-2/3 had it joined the Axis officially during WW2. The 109 won, so I placed the order yesterday for the Eduard Weekend Edition Bf 109F-4 in 48th scale, and today made the payment for the kit. Knowing Dukel Hobbies, the model should arrive this week (hopefully). I've already decided to paint the aircraft in a natural metal finish scheme, with the antiglare panel being the remainder of the RLM 74/75 camouflage. The rudder will carry the Argentinian flag. Numerals will be I-110 (I for Interceptor), with the emblem of G5C in the nose, and maybe the addition of "Fuerza Aérea Argentina" below the G5C's emblem. The decals are from Condor Decals sheet for the Mirage IIIEA/CJ in 48th. The poll: Image of the kit contents: Inspiration for my 109: Emblem of the G5C: Stay tuned for more progress!
  3. Bf 109F-4 with German Ground Personnel (48805) 1:48 ICM via Hannants The Messerschmidt Bf 109 is one of the iconic aircraft of WWII. The F-4 would use the 1332hp DB601E engine which would be fitted with a broader balded propeller for improved altitude performance. The aircraft would carry the new Mauser MG151 20mm cannon with 200 rounds per gun. Production of the F-4 would start in May 1941 and last a year with 1841 examples being built, 576 of these being the tropicalised version. The Kit This is a reboxing of ICM's kit with the addition of a set of figures. It is quite surprising that ICM have managed to fit all this into such a small box, at first I thought it was only a figure set! The aircraft kit itself looks to be good, though maybe not as detailed as some others on the market. It does however come with a full engine and the guns mounted above it, some other kit manufactures have you buy these as additional sets. Construction starts with the engine which looks to be quite detailed. The cockpit is the put together ad again this is detailed, though not as much as some. The engine and cockpit sections can then be joined and the two MG 17 guns added above. This can then all be placed in the fuselage an it closed up. The tailplanes are then added along with the rudder. The main wings can then be made up and added to the fuselage. The wings are a traditional main lower with left and right uppers. The wing tips are separate and can be added on once the main wing is done. The underside main radiator can then be added. At the front the multipart engine cowls can be added if needed, or left off if doing a ground diorama with the figures. The canopies can then be done, along with the landing gear. Lastly the underwing radiators are added along with the prop. The Figures This single sprue contains 3 standing officer figures, one in flying clothing; and 4 ground crew figures. There is even a dog if you want to add a mascot to your build. The figures are well sculpted by ICM Markings There are markings for 4 aircraft on the sheet which is done in house from ICM. No tail swastikas are provided. Yellow 4 - 9./JG.3 Ukraine May 1942 Black II - 1./JG.54 Leningrad Area March 1942 Yellow 1 - 9./JG.52 Ukrainer May 1942 Yellow 12 - 6./JG.5 Finland July 1942 Decals are well-printed with good register, sharpness and sharpness, and should pose no issues. Conclusion This is a good kit of the Bf 109F-4 which complete with the figures makes an attractive package. Recommended. Available in the UK from importers H G Hannants Ltd. Review sample courtesy of
  4. Bf 109F-4 Weekend Zoom set & Masks 1:48 Eduard Weekend Zoom (FE844) Eduard are slowly working their way through all the Bf 109 variants in 1:48 and they are great kits. This is a zoom set for their weekend edition kit. The set gives you seat belts, cockpit parts, a multi-part instrument panel, tropical filter intake parts, wing radiator parts, and wing flap parts, along with tail stiffener plates and canopy framing parts. Bf.109G-4 Masks (EX535) This set provides all the masks for the glazing in the yellow tape. Review samples courtesy of
