Apologies if this has been said previously in the forum but I thought it deserved a mention.
I took SAM from issue one back in 1979 and followed it over the years, in a somewhat ambivalent frame of mind towards more recent times. So much so that a few years ago now, I stopped taking it on subs. or by casual purchase. As I have got older, my visits to WH Smith's reading rooms have become quite rare too but I had one such foray yesterday and spotted the August SAM on the shelf and had a look. My surprise, very pleasantly I hasten to add, was that it seemed to have gone a bit retro. Back were those reference articles together with a more human scale format. To cap it all, Gary Hatcher is now the editor and he has Neil Robinson contributing and our very own (am I allowed to say that?) Bill Clark and Tony O'Toole . Gary Hatcher has a column called 'Harrogate Model Club', not sure if that actually exists as a club or not or if it is just a wacky title but as I am an old Harrogatonian myself, man & boy, I loved it.
What indeed is not to like here? Now for completeness Gary, for heavens' sake, get Mike McEvoy on the back inside page and I will be in magazine heaven.
Needless to say, my subscription is in (Paypal too!), the first mag sub for many years now.
Welcome back SAM!!
