  1. The BAE Hawk is most commonly associated with the Red Arrows. I guess now-a-days many are also familiar with the Saudi Falcons (previously Saudi Hawks) who have had a longstnading relationship with the Red Arrows. Quietly, in the north of Europe, another team uses the Hawk to beautiful effect in a 4-aircraft flight. The Midnight Hawks used to have a standard grey scheme, with identifying numbers on the tails in order to identify the aircraft of the display team. In 2017, however, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence, they display team received a lovely new scheme showing their Finnish colours, and bringing some colour to their standard grey scheme. 2017 was also the 20th year of attending RIAT with my father, where this scheme was debuted - giving it a double-meaning for me. As usual I've written a full review of the decals here - I didn't touch much on the kit as I've got loads of these to build - but it was a joy! Below you'll find the build video and a photo. I haven't taken many of it it seems, and the one below shows it the best!.
  2. The kit comes with decals and different parts for four variants. I built this example as belonging to No. 15 Wing, Nato Flying Training Centre, RCAF Moose Jaw, Canada, in 2003. More on this page of my web site: Moose Jaw Hawk
  3. Yet another sad relic found sitting on a shelf awaiting just a few bits and bobs. The Italeri Series 100 Hawk with some modifications to be finished as the Bae Hawk Mk 128 demonstrator in 2008. Finished with brushed on Tamiya acrylics and decals from the Airfix Series 100 Hawk and the spares box (I want to finish the Airfix kit as an RAAF machine some day). Thanks for looking.
  4. My fellow modellers good evening. Today I've finished my Bae Hawk T Mk1 in 1/48 scale from Airfix. I've probably exaggerated with my modeller's skills, but I've tried to replicate this beautiful (for me) display airplane as appeared in 2010 and piloted by Flt Lt. Tom "Cinders" Saunders. This is the real airplane: Bae Hawk display by Franco Segato, su Flickr photo taken from www.valleyaviationsociety.net Photo right to Neil DunridgeI and published only for modeller's discussion. I was a little bored of the Hawk in all black or grey as in my display every models have this colors, and I would like to try something a little bit more colorful. I found a beautiful decal kit from Model Alliance to replicate the airplane, with such a beautiful union Jack on the fuselage. All the decals are very nice made and they react very well to Mr. Mark Softer I've used, but I didn't trust the cover of the white decals (the stripes) as the colors below are very dark and bright. I've checked in this, and also other, forum previous works on the Hawk but I couldn't find anybody that did this replica, and for this reason I had to immagine, and think solutions. For this reason I've duplicate the white stripes using my inkjet printer and I made an exact mask of them. Then I have colored the airplane keeping my mask below and when I've striped down the model, this was the result. It's not 100% perfect but I can live with it, also because this scheme was, for me, really difficult. The model had the improvement of a new CMK Cockpit as I wasn't satisfied with the kit's interior, everything else is as Airfix made it. Three hands of Future wax made it very bright and clean as a display airplane should be. I hope you will enjoy the kit and the effort to make it as real as possible. 5. Thought I'd share my latest build with you all. This is an Airfix Hawk in 1/48 with the 19 sqdn spitfire anniversary commemorative livery(xtradecal). Basically out of the box: It's a slightly crude kit for a 1/48 scale but it looks like a Hawk(to me) at the end of the day. Main problems were fitting of the blast screen after assembly and the usual wing root and engine intake filling chores. Paint was Vallejo MA 017(green) and the dark earth was a mix of VMA 26 & 29(50:50). Silver was Humbrol metalcote(mainly cause I had loads left over). I broke the pitot tube....as you do...so replaced it with a cut-down sewing needle. Not perfect by any means but I pretty pleased with it. I have another one in the stash destined for Royal Navy black. Cheers all, comments appreciated !! PS: Remember(unlike me) to fit the pylons on after the large underwing serial numbers.
  6. Hi Again fellow modellers, it's been a few months since I posted on this forum; the last build being consigned to the 'shelf of doom'. So here goes with Airfix's rendition of a BAe Hawk Mk 1, I've built one before but it was the previous moulding, lacking in detail. I'm pleased with the result but there were a few headaches with fit on this kit: wing section needed filing down to fit , engine nacelles required filling, etc. Paint is Alclad Black Primer. which I found out is a bit of a dust magnet !! I may have 'overdone' the wing nav. lights a tad. Undercarraige was also a pain, does anyone have the same trouble as me with wheels/tyres?? Oh and those bl**dy tiny stencils..........took me about three hours in total to decal. And how do you reproduce the white(?) seal round the main canopy? Anyway all comments appreciated. Next up: Revell 1/48 Bf109F
  7. Hi all, here,s my stalled build ready for the big push tomorrow! Two year,s in the wardrobe the decal,s were given to one of our US members as I have an AM sheet to do her in low-viz gray with a black top on the fuselage and fin divided by a blue/yellow cheat line,no idea what squadron as the sheet has gone AWOL but will be around somewhere, even the box is long gone. Here's the "bit's and what was done pre lost interest.
  8. I built this after seeing a profile over on the Claveworks Graphics site. The Airfix 1/72 Hawk 100 kit was used, as I felt the nose looked more F1-ish. Built pretty much OOB except for the decals, which I made myself.
  9. Does anyone know if someone has produced a set of decals for the new Red Arrows 50th Anniversary livery for the 1/32 Revell Red Arrows Hawk? I've got one in the stash and fancy giving it a go this year. Thanks in anticipation! Andrew
  10. Doing some cleaning up this morning and pulled maintenance on my collection of 1/72 BAe Hawks. These have been built over a period of 10 years or so. In construction order, first the old Airfix Red Arrows Hawk, finished with brush painted Humbrol enamels (at the same time as the previously posted Red Arrows Gnat). Then the Italeri Mk 100 finished as the demonstrator, also brush painted with Humbrol enamels and with the kits supplied roundels replaced with spares. The Tamiya T1 - I think this is actually the Italeri plastic. The kit decals were the weirdest colours I have ever seen for low-viz RAF markings so I invested in Xtradecal sheet X031-72, which has kept me going ever since. This one is completed as 1992 display aircraft for 7FTS/63 Squadron RAF. Brush painted Tamiya acrylics. Fujimi kit completed as a T1A of 2TWU/151 Squadron RAF, July 1992. Brush painted Tamiya acrylics. The Italeri T-45 Goshawk completed straight out of the box. Tamiya rattle can for the white, brush painted Humbrol enamel for the red. The Italeri Mk 100 finished as a T2. This was my first go at converting a kit with a bit of scratch building (around the tail end). I was intending to put together some "fake" markings together from my decal spares collection, but just in time Airfix released their new Hawk T2/120 kit, so I used one set of markings from that. At some point I will work up courage to complete the donor kit as the Mk120 demonstrator. Brush painted Tamiya acrylics. And finally the new tool Airfix T1 finished making use of the decals from the Fujimi kit as a camouflaged machine from 63 Squadron. SNEB rocket pods are from the old tool Airfix Hawk. Brush painted Tamiya acrylics. Thats it for now, but I have another T1 under construction (stalled), the Mk120 and two more T1's in the stash - so watch this space Thanks for looking.
  11. Hello there guys. So as promised in my new member post heres the photos of my builds too date, all but one are airfix and the stuka tank buster is revell. Enjoy. These are in pretty much in order (from bottom to the top) of builds apart from the stuka and the RAF benevolent fund hawk and stuka. The benevolant fund hawk was my last build. Any comments and constructive criticisim is welcomed but please be nice
  12. Another rescue job. This had been languishing in a partially built state for the best part of 8 years. I had made a right mess of the RAAF markings that come with the kit. Feeling at a loose end last Christmas I stripped the model off with oven cleaner and then finished it off as a Canadian Hawk with brush painted acrylics and the other set of markings that came with the kit. Not quite my longest build (an incomplete Airfix Jaguar or Lightning is likely to take that prize), but close to it. Thanks for looking.
