May I present to you my next Corgi Aviation diecast topic, the B-52E Stratofortress. I acquired two of these a number of years ago, the silver and white one illustrated above and a camouflaged one. On our club display table at Yorkshire Air Museum. The fuselage is split horizontally and held together with small screws behind pop-out caps which is typical of the Corgi diecast aviation models construction. I took the fuselage apart on both models to access the nicely detailed flight deck where I did a bit of a painting and added silver foil nuclear blast curtains to the side windows. I also improved external parts such as the landing gear doors. I touched up the paintwork on both models, especially the silver and white one where I increased the anti-radiation white undersurfaces to include the whole engine pods. I also added open bomb doors and a crew access hatch. Needless to say, they are pretty heavy models for 1/144 with the amount of metal they are made from. So here they are, on rotational deployment somewhere in England. The 1/144 personnel are N Guage model railway figures which have been drafted into military service. Trouble is they still stand around with hands in pockets and keep going for cups of tea. This B-52E carries two North American GAM-77 Hound Dog stand-off missiles. They came from an Academy Minicraft B-52G kit and the pylons are scratchbuilt as the kit's ones were too thin. Anti-radiation curtain from silver foil. I tried to represent the characteristic B-52 wrinkling of the fuselage skin. The power trolleys and fire extinguishers are scratchbuilt. The manned tail turret. The manned tail turret on the early versions, a lonely place to be for several hours. Scratchbuilt flight line hut and ground equipment from plastic card. These have been my Corgi Aviation diecast B-52E Stratoforts. Hope you enjoyed them for what these models are, a bit of fun. kind regards, adey
