  1. So I was at Telford looking for a kit to buy to make for a 'FlashMod' session my club had organised for two weeks after Telford. Basically. we all meet up somewhere and we have six hours to complete the kit, therefore I was looking for a simple kit as my entry. I decided to get a Meng toon tank or an aircraft (I built a Sturm Tiger previously using Meng's toon Tiger and a conversion kit)and so I finally decided to get Meng's B24J Liberator and was inspired by a display of Assembly ships on a club display. I was going to pick a simple design but they were all B-24D's so in a mad moment I decided to make the Spotted A** Ape, shown below: I figured that, as there were not many parts to the kit I should be able to crack it in six hours....maybe. My original plan was to source some decals for the spots beforehand but, unfortunately, could not find any so went to Plan B, which was to get some small spot stickers to use as masks. This had to be amended as the only spots I could get were too big so I ended up punching out the centres with a hole punch! Well the day came and I made a great start priming everything and painting the unspotted parts. However I was trying to paint red , blue and yellow areas for the spots to be stuck on but it was taking ages as I would have to put three coats on to get the opacity. In the end I reverted to Plan C and re-primed, painted the base white and Olive Drab then stuck the spots on instead! I didn't manage to finish in the six hours and had to finish it off a few days later - I had to paint the vertical stabilisers, finish the mouth and eyes and make up some decals for the lettering, oh, and base it as well. It was quite a fun build although I get having to repaint some of the white areas to cover some mistakes. Here is the finished article. I tried matting down the dots but it didn't work. Thanks for looking Mick
  2. Hi Guys, As the Co-host I will start with putting my stuff on this GB. It is the 1/48 Monogram B-24J Liberator. With a few extra's. I have got a set gun barrels from Quickboost witch is original for the B-17G, but I think it will fit without any trouble. I also have 3 extra decal sheets. I still haven't decided totally on witch scheme I will use. The model was a second handed one and was already started. I have managed to losen a few parts from each other. The only part I didn't touch was one of the wings. It was glued firmely and would brake if I used to much force. I have also done some rescribing of the model recently. It may not be totally correct but will in the end give a better look after painting and a wash. The model was also in a box with a B-24D so I don't have a picture of the top of the box. It was a great surprise to see two kits in one box and that for just 25 euro's!!!! Here are the pictures of what is in the box. the sidepicture of the box it came with. the content. the sprues, or what was left of it. The glassing was twice in the box for the B-24J. the lose parts (also partialy because of the rescribing). Also the cockpit was already painted. Don't worry about this I will re-paint this durring the build and try to enhance it. and the building manual. and the decals from the kit with the quickboost set. And the after market decals I have. My preference go to "Sweeter Gal" from the 93th BG. And some of the reference material I have. Cheers,
  3. I've just finished two 1/72 heavy bombers, thanks in part to spare parts from Modelglue and encouragement from a cast of thousands, it sometimes seemed like. I used the new Airfix Lancaster and an Aeromaster decal sheet to build Lancaster B.X KB722/VR/R "Ropey", a 33+-mission veteran of 419 (Moose) Squadron, RCAF, and arguably the possessor of more sharkmouths than any other aircraft, which places it as a strong contender for greatest paint scheme of all time. The name "Ropey" was added to her when she returned to Canada, so this model depicts her at the end of a long (for a wartime Lancaster) life. The LIberator VI was built using the Hasegawa B-24J kit, with decals from the Eduard/Minicraft "Liberating Beauties" kit, and, since the Eduard SEAC roundels are all wrong, the roundels and flashes were sourced from a Kits at War sheet and the Airfix Liberator VI boxing, both kindly sent to me by posters on Hyperscale. The kit depicts KH283/"B-for-Bitch" of 159 Squadron in SEAC, as flown by Canadian Squadron Leader John Gauntlet DFC. I apologize for the poor quality of the photos, the ugliness of the kitchen, and the sheer inepititude on display. The real fun was in the build threads, as I got to interact with many Britmodellers, who encouraged me at every turn, even when they manifestly shouldn't have.
