  1. #5/2024 So, here´s my dad´s finished third and last I-16, for now. Ark Models kit mostly oob. The kit is modular for different versions. For the Type 10 you have to sand off the cockpit door and an access panel on the right side. The kit comes with cut out yourself vinyl masks. Would have preferred pre-cut kabuchi ones, but in the end the vinyl masks turned out ok. Used 0,4mm plastic rods for the landing gear retraction cables. Painted with Mr Paint White Aluminium and AK RC Signal Red. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235135082-red-batplane148-polikarpov-i-16-type-10-vvs/ Valery Pavlovich Chkalov was born in 1904 in Russia. In 1924 he joined a fighter unit and in 1935 he became the leader of the stunt/display team of the Airforce. He was also a test pilot and was awarded the title Hero of the Sovietunion in 1936. He participated in several long distance flights, among them a 63 hrs non stop flight from Moscow to the US pacific coast via the North Pole. He died on Dec. 15th 1938 in an landing accident with the Polikarpov I-180 prototype. 2. All good things come in three. My dad decided to start this Ark Model kit too. Only decals included for the box art scheme, also vinyl masks, sadly not pre-cut. My dad will give it a try....should the cutting not work out he´ll do a diferent scheme. 5. Hello folks, Happy New Year, whish you all the best in 2023. Sometimes, you have to indulge your masochistic needs, and I think that this kit is perfect for the job I've heard stories about Ark Model kits and how disastrous they are, but I wanted to check that myself. And I can say that stories are true Here it is. It's the cheapest kit I ever bought (don't remember exact price, but it was definitely bellow $10), but I'll throw so much AM parts and time in it that it will probably end us as the most expensive . And here are some goodies that I'll use for this build: Those pin marks... Tracks are single link, but they are almost impossible to clean up and not much details. I'll replace them with Friuls. Some more "details": And of course, everything is warped: No comment on this. Had to sand the seam lines on wheels completely, because they are off-center. And the fit is... well... not perfect: OK, so everything is there for an exciting and challenging build 😆 I'll ignore the accuracy, especially dimensions, because I can't do much about that. But 'll try to fix some details and at least make it look not that ugly. There are quite a lot of reference photos around, which is surprising having in mind that there were only 12 of these vehicles built (all of them sent to North Africa). I am aiming to something like this: That's it for now. I'll stop ranting about the kit, I promise Cheers, Nenad

  8. #17/2021 Ark Models kit, Eduard seatbelts, EZ Line for antenna Painting instructions call for cherry red, but there are lots of different cherries...my dad used Tamiya X-7 Gloss Red with a touch of brown. The cockpit detail is a bit sparse, only decals (not 3D decals like with some La-9/11 Ark Models boxings) for the side instruments. The distinctive Lavochkin two metal coloured cowl rings are missing so my dad masked and painted them. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235093905-last-pistons148-lavochkin-la-11-fang-911th-iap-soviet-airforce/ The 911th IAP received their first La-11s in 1948. In July 1949 the regiment was transferred from Bolshaya Elan in Sakhalin to Uelkal in the Chukotka Peninsula, the most north-eastern part of the USSR. There they escorted strategic Tu-4 bombers. Because of the all white surroundings the planes were painted red. 20. It's a little late for a work in progress, but, I thought I'd still share this with you (remembering the days BEFORE the excellent Airfix Hurricane?) The ARK Models Hurri - 70% kit parts, 10% chunks of sprue to fill the horrendous voids, and 20% Millput. I started this when it was the only Hurri Mk I available, and, if I was a reasonable person, should have binned it long ago. I, however, have never been accused of being reasonable, and vowed that no crappy piece of Russian plastic would defeat me! It was so bad that I had to cut the right fuselage in half to shorten it (both sides were different lengths) then cut it again later to deal with an ugly twist. Attach the wings with blocks of sprue melted in with liquid cement, re-profile the aft fuselage with millput, carve a new lower nose from sprue and millput etc. etc. It is, in fact, half modelled, half sculpted. Lots of scratch building in the cockpit, and Eduard belts (wish now that I had photographed it) On with the horror show! aft wing to the fuselage is all scrap plastic and millput, wheel wells lots of scratch building, millput and time I did things like run the rudder and trim cables and make a loop of .006" brass wire to run the antennae wire through Canopy is a Falcon Vac, with inner structure of strip, and brass wire handles inside and out
  21. Hello, it`s me again. Another soviet aircraft, another new model from russian manufacture. The I-185 is the fourth kit from ARK models. The others were Hurricane and two I-16. All other ARK kits are repacks of FROG, old ICM and so on. The kit looks like old Matchbox kits with poor detailing and wide inside panel lines. I added some parts in cockpit, wheel bays, installed engine, made a landing light, opened canopy, scribed some panel lines and added the rivets. The model is painted like a plane from combat testing in 728 fighter squadron, December 1942.
